For those who haven't played it, Craterlake was one of the earliest maps on this beta (and the best imho) it has two stage capture the objectives game mode. The match start with part of the map is locked the unlocked part has two objective A & B the attackers goal is to capture or destroy those objectives to unloack the rest of the map, yes you could destroy objective, it was best when the defenders are heavily guarding the objective you could just call a tank or use blaster installations to blow the objective off though it took time to do so (see the balance).
Once those two objectives captured or destroyed the rest of the maps is unlocked to the 3 main objectives this part of the map is actually biomass or communication map with A, B & C a normal skirmish match starts to capture null canons and destroy the MMC (defenders goal) or to protect the MCC until it docks on enemy base (attackers goal).
It feels like fighting in two different maps at once man i missed that map we had a blast playing the beta at that time despite all the bugs and balance issues.
The moral of this story: CCP can you give us back that map/mode please ? |

Yes please! That was honestly so much fun and used tactics which aren't as prevelent in this build. Map was a whole lofts fun with the terrain being all different heights and all the different ways to traverse it! |

It was unbalanced, but worked extremely well. The small blasters and overall turret placement was awesome. Also, the stretch of land that attackers had to cross to get to the defenders was awesome. |

Sometimes when I think about it too much I cry in public.....sucks.
It was the map where many of us first became intimate with DUST 514. The beautiful vistas and curvy canyons called out for a steady hand and an experienced, loping rhythm. And then, when the defenses had been lowered, the urgent, primal, balls-to-the-wall chaos of the intimate close-quartered finale.
Miss it? Yeah, maybe.

I loved Craterlake with all my heart and soul. I still write her letters every night. I just can't bring myself to mail them for fear that they'll be returned to sender and my dreams of seeing her again will be destroyed. The hope that we'll be reunited is the only thing that makes my life worth living. So here they sit, unsealed and drenched in tears.
Wait, what were we talking about again? |

i miss it. I think the current maps would be better if they actually had the defenders MCC not part of the battle 1st. It should be the cool two stage map.
Have the 2 outposts that are required to take 1st to open up the rest of the red zone. During this time the attackers mcc shouldn't take damage it should just be moving towards the enemy base. However if you can't take down the shields/red zone before the mcc gets to close then it has to retreat.
Awesome 2 stage map was epic in beta |

It was epic. East side was high rocks, heavy cover, long winding route. West side was high, open and generally very dangerous. Central route was low, had plenty of cover, and was a complete bloodbath. The first objective was easy to take for the attackers, the second easy to hold for the defenders.
Give us crater lake, and give us strafe speed.
Edit: Make crater lake biomass the corp battle map. |

Ahhhh the old swarms. I remember my first days in the beta couldn't for the life of me figure out where those glowys things came from and why I died.
Kinda like the Superman rides we took from the RE's you never quite saw the map properly till you were flipping through the air. Hey look at that rooftop nice graphics. |

It was great, but it was set up like it was to test certain aspects of gameplay to get data to analyze for further build work. We'll get that gameplay feel again, but I don't think we'll get it before the game goes live. After that the generation system will definitely keep us rolling.

I kind of had a feeling it would go down like this. Little trip down nostalgia lane with rose tinted HUDs.
Crater lake was filled by all the crying that occurred in the forums. It eventually became crater sea and then crater ocean and eventually crater water planet. And is thus unplayable for a few years until they get those water planet maps figured out.
Read through the forums from back in the days of crater lake. Those days were not the good old days when they were actually happening. They were brutal and savage days. And my PS 3 froze more often then than it has since. Mainly because my PS 3 froze permenantly and I had to get a new one.
But yeah, had the best character movement of all builds so far. For me, at least. |

That map/mode was awesome, you had a variety of gameplay to choose from. And it instilled a sense of urgency when attacking cause you wanted to get through with as high of shields as possible then, when you got to the 3 letters you had to hold them and wait on your MCC to slowely dock and in the meantime your screaming "hurry the **** up and dock we can't hold this **** forever" .
Swarm launchers spat balls of fire and instantly killed you and Heavies with HMG were scary mother ******* that i personally would try and avoid, or lure them into a Remote explosive trap.
Ah the good old days

Yeap map was great and the possobility to destroy enemy MCC even before they open second part of map was marvellous. But there is a bit of problem.... we now have 2 MCC on each side and not one... If CCP somehow addopt that map to new conditions it will be great. |

i liked this map a lot. But the balance between attacking and defending was kinda broken. I admit i'd like to see those skirmish 1.0 maps back with the new MCC strenght. |

You all know the reason Craterlake was removed right !? I believe it caused a major memory leak which led to the 2 match ... reboot, 2 match ... reboot if you wanted to avoid the hard lockup.
I too would love to see this multi stage map style back again, but I fear that specific map is already in the digital bin.
Separated zone starting positions could be cool aswell, 2 zones with 2 squads in each, defenders successful in both zones and the MCC is destroyed, if 1 attacker zone is successful the MCC moves over the complex to dock and if both attack zones are successful they move forward with some other benefit, perhaps each zone could control a Stasis Web slowing the MCC, success in both zones speeds up the MCC towards dock :-) |

i surei saw defense relay icon on the loading page that tells u what all the icons are this is what we were blowing up on craterlake in order for the MCC to advance toward the base
im just guessing here but i think they will possibly reintroduce maps of this kind in the future once the bugs have been sorted out

i remember them saying we will get something new and more balanced game mode similar to the feel of attackers progessing further into enemy territory |

The map is just data. Memory leaks are in code (and I would really hope are already fixed).
I loved the feel of Craterlake's staged progression, and I hope a game mode similar to it gets added.
The map itself had some interesting elements, too. Maybe parts of it will get reused.

Was just thinking about that map yesterday and how much I missed it. I hope staged maps like that become a regular game mode. I also agree that the turret placement was great fun in that map, holding turrets was a big strategic advantage when trying to protect/capture an objective. |

I think CCP learned their engine's limitations. If you hadn't noticed, the more recent the map, the smaller it is in size. I just want what was promised which was a huge system of fully rendered planets each with numerous original sectors to conquer/defend. If that gets accomplished, I am fine with the smaller maps although I do miss Craterlake. |
