For starters I freely admit this should be VERY low on the list of priorities, none the less, someday it would be nice to have alternative optical and sensor devices. What I mean is there should be attachments or cameras we can switch between, and ideally environments to support this sort of thing that would aid Mercenaries in battle, or even allow them to specialize for an environment. Some suggestions might be:
Echo-location interfaces, basically the louder the battlefield it uses sound waves the same way we use light waves, it extrapolates them and creates a physical representation displayed for the mercenary, the benefit would be in low or no light environments providing there was enough noise (Gunfire, background, whatever the case), the mercenary could still see. That and any merc on the battlefield firing loud weaponry would light up like a christmas tree for the mercenary with such a device.
Thermal vision, I think we all know exactly how this works, hot things show hot, cold things show cold, useful for picking out bodies and mechanics from the environment, that and when stealth hits the market it would make a great counter for semi-invisible mercs hiding or sneaking about.
X-Ray, I know what your thinking, just not right, I'm going all Tom Clancey here, but think of it this way. Forget about the bonus of seeing through walls and stuff like that, that's not my intention, we're fighting on foreign planets, and foreign planets can have foreign weather. If CCP goes all out I expect to see dust storms, snow storms, and lots of other visually impairing **** and debree on certain worlds. The purpose of the x-ray vision is not to see 'through walls' but to see through weather, and if its your home planet you can already see the benefit of being a well prepared defender.
Night-vision, if we're going to have the rest we need to have this, and never mind everything else, I KNOW we'll have to see night battles at some point that are truly dark... Or dark structures where the power can be disabled to give infiltrating or defending teams the advantage. If you want creative strategies this is a must.
Electro-magnetic visual, this one is a rarely suggested beauty, but its purpose is obvious for one it could still pick up mercs either via the electrical devices on their suit or the faint outline of their neural-synaptic and central nervous system activity. But that's not where this one shines, where its truly powerful is all laser and hybrid weapons would light up the sky, and vehicles could be spotted anywhere on the map in seconds, and possible even through obstacles and even locked on if the obstacles aren't thick enough or made of a significantly electrically resistant substance.
And I'm sure there's many many more I've left out, but I think you get the idea. If you agree I'd love the support, if not I'd love to hear why. |
