I don't see what the hell is wrong with the Codex build at this point other than the occasional lag that rears its head every few matches. Compared to the prior build (Precursor) this build is actually the most stable I have seen yet. Let me elaborate on the Codex Build, at least from my direct experience. You know, the kind of experience that's not based on what some of you people post on the forum.
1. Abso-frakking-lutely no INVALID FIT BUG since the day I started this build. 2. I rarely get kicked out of the match. Even if I do, I now retain the ISK/SP that I earned during my time there. 3. No micro-warping characters. 4. Hit detection has improved. For goodness sake I can finally hit someone. 5. ===Important=== I don't know what CCP did yesterday, but I can finally join matches (Ambush and Skirmish) without being timed out in the waiting. Rarely does it happen at this point. 6. Graphics have improved... a lot. Perhaps it's the shadow rendering that's improved. 7. Vehicle handling (for the LAV at least) has vastly improved. My LAV no long loses all control when I make a NASCAR left turn and my camera doesn't shake wildly and disorients me whenever I drive over a pebble. 8. The character interaction with the terrain is vastly improved.
My only two beefs with this build:
1. Excessive orbital bombardments. Or as some of you like to call them, precision strikes. They are just too easily earned like candy. 2. Incorrect shadow rendering causes my scout which has reduced signature profile to contrast with the background of some maps allowing anyone from across the map to see me even in the moderately dense fog.
Those is my only beef with the build.
As for the nerfed straffing, I have to admit that I welcome that nerf. It forces players to actually start using the terrain and structures around them for cover and learn to run straight ahead and away from me rather than just sitting there like a duck in the pond waiting to get shot. In the Precursor build, there was so much straffing that players were doing the tango or dancing to Celia Cruz. It was so common that I often wondered if I was playing dust or going to prom. This has changed in the Codex Build now.
Let me talk about the terrain. It's really improved. I'm not BSing here. I'm not trolling in any way here. The character's interaction with the terrain is amazing now. I don't lose my sprint whenever I run over a pebble or go downhill. In fact, doing downhill actually improves my sprint distance. Also, I rarely get stuck in-between two rocks now and when I slide off, I don't suffer as much damage. Also, when running or sprinting over even the most jagged ridges in the map, I don't get stuck anywhere. In the Precursor Build, however, everyone got stuck almost anywhere, their sprints were interrupted by a stupid mound, grenades appeared to disappear into the ground, while drop uplinks and nanohives kept sliding into oblivion.
I haven't driven the dropship yet, so I will reserve my judgement for when I do ride one. But in regards to the LAV handling, I love it now in the Codex Build. In the Precursor Build, LAVs had the most horrible... HHHHHHHHooorrriibllllleeeee... handling. It was hard enough to maintain a straight line while driving without it veering off so much to the side. Imagine when you turned on a simple turn. No complex maneuvering here. Just a simple left NASCAR turn. Oh my god, the LAV kept losing control. Now imagine riding over the hills and rocky terrain in the maps. The Codex Build has fixed all that. Ok, the LAVs now have slower acceleration, but I would rather have that than an out-of-control car.
Hit Detection. Finally, I can hit more. The E3 build saw some issues with hit detection and the Precursor Build saw MAJOR hit detection issues especially with scouts. Nowadays, in the Codex Build, scouts are easier to mow down. I know because I'm specialized into being a scout and I often get gunned out while trying to escape.
Matches. Finally, I can choose which match type to go for. Also, I noticed that it's getting easier to get into Skirmish matches without getting kicked early on. Occasionally it still does, but I think it had something to do with that event in Moscow (Igromir).
Locks. Since the start of the Codex Build, I have yet to encounter a single lock. Not even a soft lock. This has spared my PS3 further pain of the hardware restart brought upon us by the Precursor Build.
Overall, CCP has done a great job with this build and I couldn't be any more happy. For those of you that seem to complain, I get the feeling you are merely taking the little things and blowing them out of proportion. Based on my own experience playing the Codex Build and prior builds, I can say with absolute certainty that you folks are just making Codex seem worse than it actually is while in fact I have yet to suffer... except when dying to a GEK assault rifle as I failed to sneak up on someone.
===UPDATE: 5 Oct 2012===
I forgot to mention that another gripe I have with this build is the low ISK gain. As someone else here in the thread mentioned, it's a issue. But I guess it wouldn't be any issue at all if the market were opened up and allow us to sell whatever salvage we get to compensate. But then again, that would require moving to Tranquility where the market is more stable and dynamic. Right now I would rather sell my salvage to another player rather than to an NPC. |

I've noticed some Microwarping from time to time, but on the whole you're right, as a build I wold say that this is by far the most workable so far.I am however, disapointed with the lack of new features. |

I'm not disappointed much. We finally get to make player-run corps at least. My only disappointment is that we haven't moved to Tranquility yet, where everything is much more stable and can handle vast loads of players at once. But if CCP feels that they are not ready to go there yet, then so be it. I would rather they fix things to get it right than rush it and ruin everything. |

Yeah, that needs fixing too. So far, I have only used the keyboard for text-based communications. One step at a time though. Besides, we had much bigger fish to fry than to worry about KB/M issues. Perhaps next build we'll see improvement there. Be happy for the improvements we just got from Codex. |

We'll I can't say it's this build or not, but after a crash last night to shut down the system and another shortly after starting up this afternoon, my PS3 will now no longer turn on.
A few others are reporting this in the tech support forum, though there doesn't appear to be much 'support' going on.
Most think it's this build, though at this stage I care not, all I know is that my PS3 will not turn on.
My PS3 has never ever crashed until playing this game and I used to dismiss those comments from others about it killing their system.......... kinda wishing I hadn't now.
Other than that, I loved this build. Like you, I was hitting stuff. |

Agree except also:
1. Mouse sensitivity needs fixing. Playing with my controller right now and that sucks. 2. Friendly collision detection system is buggy. You so much as get near a team mate and physics starts to warp into something else. Those drop suits must be oppositely magnetic or something 3. ISK. Too little. Last build was too much, now too little. 4. Boosting / Farming - which leads to the abundance of precision strikes. There may be too many in general, not sure, but there are definitely too many when peeps are doing this. 5. Invalid Label. Sucks. 6. The new large skirmish map is laggy and unstable. No issues with the rest, just the one. |

good of you to say that but i havent used a controller since ps1 days and before they had analoge sticks. agreed though prolly got more important things to fix. bad for the people that bought ps3s to test dust explusivley with keyboard and mouse. guess it shows their priorities (and who they want feedback from). ie they have no interest in supporting k/b mouse and as a dev team were forced into it. shows in what we got to play with last build and this build too tbh(althought it was a good start). someone should prolly tell ccp frame to delete that sticky in the other forum about k/b bindings as one or more of the devs decided they would do it their way and not bother telling anyone else about it.
keyboard and mouse for this game is just another console conversion. speaking for myself personally if thats the case CCP can stick it where the sun don't shine and as soon as i work out how to remove cc details 'ill sell it as a package/ wipe the drive. |

It's hard to tell why people are experiencing that. I don't see it happen to me any more. But before, in the Precursor Build, my PS3 kept going into cardiac arrest that I was afraid I might lose it and thus have a buy a new one for my Girlfriend since this PS3 is hers. That's what's bugging me right now. What is the damn difference? I thought "precision strike" was just a fancy way of saying "orbital bombardment". After all, the strikes are coming from the Warbarge orbiting over the planet and thus bring about orbital bombardments just like an Eve Online player would do with a Moros or Retribution. |

Really it's to distinguish between automated precision strikes always available via the NPC warbarge and EVE Online player initiated orbital bombardments which will be from their starships in space. The precision strikes are part of the DUST client and orbital bombardments occur from the interaction of the players in the DUST and EVE clients.
Anyway, I'm really enjoying this build over precursor and DUST is now resembling more of a complete game. I especially like the laser rifles and I can't wait to see what further enhancements are in store, especially when we hit TQ. |

I still need to make a feedback thread on this, but a few things:
- Much more lag - Lots and lots of invisible walls, getting caught up on all sorts of things - Collision with other players is weird, makes me bounce all over the screen if I get too close - Players are graphically bugged in that they 'pop' over other textures such as dust - Command wheel doesn't open when first clicked in many cases, needing me to stop, hold down R2, and wait for it to open - Remote explosives don't always throw, in fact it usually takes 3-4 tries to get them to throw - Grenades also have a habit of not being thrown when told - I still get perpetual sound glitches from time to time, where you just hear a gun firing for the rest of the match. - Precision Strikes are far, far too common now. - I think the market place is too cluttered now, with the way it's set up (just way too much information with the way they show pre reqs) - AUR BPOs are worth far more than they cost

It's when you see a player in the distance seemingly appear to skip ahead a few extra feet or meters due to lag. Usually it has more to do with the communication between the time that player moves, the time the server received that data, and the time the server sends it to you. This becomes more problematic when a US player is inside an EU server. So far, I have not seen this issue. At least not as often as it did in Codex.

APP they might mean Rubberband LAG, you'd remember it from the days of yore in MAG.... when the Ping Equation was adjusted in mid match and somebody gaming on a pay phone in antartica joined in the match.
I see people complaining about not having enough ISK.... my lowest scoring matches were when I was NOT Squad Leader and the deaf mutes in charge couldn't miracle worker themselves into figuring out how to set the frago or even say that there were vehicles on the field. Or if they were lucky enough to garner a strike from my hard work without a frago or points for me, instead of going for the mass of 3 lav's butchering us because they couldn't be bothered to make an AV loadout or have enough money to afford one, they strike on the one enemy idiot not enganging us.
So I say thanks CCP for the overly complex comms channels that keep everything a random mess of muted mayhem.
I don't need the Local Text Chat... all that does is bog down my ps3 with useless banter, IF I wanted to talk to anyone I already have an almost full friends list. To bad they are all playing other released games right now.
The new invalid glitch is not a problem, just don't use the podium in the merc quarters, launch, if it doesn't take you into a game within a minute cancel and launch again from the neocom.... I have gotten many squads into games when they kept getting this new form of invalid.
My biggest problem is the KICK.... you know when you are lighting up an enemy point blank who is usually back pedalling away from you and suddenly all the bullets stop registering and the controller out screen comes up. I have yet to get any points from being kicked from a match like this. |

Did you wait a few hours or after the next downtime? I noticed the same thing happened to me on my end, but I gained the ISK/WP earned later on. Although I'm not certain as to how long it registers after the match. |

I do notice that I have all my lost suits back and usually +1 fitting back on the suit...higher than when I started and was kicked.....I hope I do get them.... there were about 9-20 games where this happened during the opening day of codex in the heart of my happy hour so I should have gotten a lot of points as the dimishing returns was not in full effect. |

Minus the battlefield bit, basically this.
It looks a lot nicer, with plenty of shiny bells and whistles, but the gameplay is awful now. The last build had a great speed and flow to it, fast enough that gun game and player skill could overtake better gear, but slow enough that it was worthwhile to use some strategy and work as a squad. The maps are set up for CQC, there's lot's of open space, but 99% of the action takes place within about 30 meters of objectives, CRUs, and Supply Depots.
So, basically, you spawn in, do some CQC, people die, rinse repeat. Which makes great sense with the speed of the previous build. Now, with this build, we're still doing all CQC, but we're doing it with a game speed intended for squad based maneuvers... which makes little to no sense from a gameplay perspective. If they want the game to play THIS slowly, it would be better suited for Cover Mechanics and a more cover based map setup.
I really am completely at a loss on what CCP is trying to accomplish here, I just hope they are doing the same thing they've done with other nerfs and using the pendulum style method of testing and that this is intended to be the far swing to the uber slow paced side.
on a side note: I'm also experiencing a ton of trouble with the Command Wheel, I've pretty much given up on switching my weapons if there are enemies anywhere even vaguely close by, because it tends to take a good 5-10 seconds to make sure I've managed to fight the Command Wheel into coming up and giving me the weapon or item I'm wanting. |

The first build that I was in back I July, I LOVED it. I loved the game style, the sometimes you can't win because that's how it is in war, or maybe it was me being naive. Then the second build came along, and well, it was a disaster. One dull, desolate map with the heavens Dropships turning it into a realistic version of Dante's Devine comedy, but I held on, I could see the vision, a game that blends a level of strategy and tactics, with grand warfare and fps, and along comes the third build, and I fell in love again, it was all coming together .... Then we were given this build, and I honestly don't know what to say. This is actually the first time ive actually didn't want to play the gameEighteen disconnects in the space of four hours, a dysfunctional corp system, inflation out of control in the market with a lower quality of goods, it's starting to look like even eve is feeling the effects of the recession. But I suppose it's like that poem about the holocaust, first they came for the scouts and the heavys, then they came for the Dropships, then they came for the tanks, then they came for the rifles, And now there's nothing left to shoot at me. (I suppose theirs always your nova knife, just make sure you don't run at me, and I might not be able to step out of your way) this build is by far the WORST build ever, of all time, and a members list and a social security fund doesn't justify it at all in my book. |
