As if we didn't have enough problems staying alive for long, now it feels like a rock and the new height limit is CRAZY! first thing I did this build was buy a viper to test the new controls, and the first thing I did was bounce of an invisible ceiling just flying to an objective. I agree with a height limit because last build you could fly near into orbit but come on. |

I'm not sure why people fly so high... just because a aircraft flies doesn't mean to hit the highest part of the map.
Flying means to cover ground in a faster pace and going over everything, also in the drop ship you pickup and deploy troops... Moving people to pointa to point b. Not just hovering over the map... You are suppose to stay part of the battle.
I believe that is why they fixed that. |

there's fixing and then there's not being able to fly normally with out hitting your head. have you ever tried to escape missiles in a dropship? It aint easy....well wasn't easy, now it's imposable
trust me I know how to deliver passengers and flying 20 meters above the battle is not the way to do it |

I believe that is why they fixed that. Have you flown a dropship since Precursor launched? It is next to impossible to fly close to the ground, as going forward/backward/left/right requires tilting the dropship, so that the thrusters (which are only on the bottom) apply thrust in the direction you want to go. Flying across the map now, it is impossible not to hit this new ceiling. |

They shouldn't put an invisible wall. Maybe a warning saying you're going out the boundaries and your engine will shut down.
Edit: They did this with Battle Field Games, Starhawk, Warhawk, etc. No invisible wall please! |

The invisible flight ceiling is EXTREMELY lame. If they wanted to prevent us from flying as high as we could, they should have simply increased the "wobbly" effect when you got too high last build. In addition to that, it isn't as if I have a problem avoiding swarms, even with the reduced flight ceiling. It breaks immersion and is an extremely lame solution. |

Is this colliding with the ceiling hapeining as if one would be colliding to any other object minus damage? Of that's the case then it's extremely poorly handled ceiling. If there needs to be ceiling it should be implemented with not enough thrust to go higher. And that should be incremental decrease in thrust. |

havent flown yet this build, my first thought was that they wanted to stop tower campers, but surely that would be easier just by making it impossible to land on (tilted) roofs?
How low is this ceiling? I don't have enough isk to warrant losing 100k to swarms... |

Drop ships are awesome this patch! Sure we can't tower camp anymore but the controls are way more precise and the landing gear works now! Stop qqing and adapt |

I found that in the last build that the controls aimed the thrust quite precisely and that the flight physics were precisely what would result from shifting the direction of thrust. What changed to make you feel that precision increased? |

Maybe precise is the wrong word.. more responsive would better represent the control scheme. When you try it out you'll see what I mean. Long story short, drop ships are fine we just have to find new ways to exploit |

Interesting.
By more responsive do you mean less inertia/greater accelleration as in fitting the lows with nanos? |

Swarms have never been a problem for me I have only been taken down once by swarms in the last month. And that is because my gunner was not the brightest and says nothing when 5 guys have launched swarms at the same time causing me to be alphaed.
But the problem here is now your forced in forge gun range at all times. And forge guns are very OP against drop ships because you have no defense. If once you get hit by a forge gun you can expect to loose your ship. Because either you are sitting still and by the time you get moving the forger has shot 2 more shots which means the death of even a well tanked dropship. or he is good with the forger and he can hit you moving as easy as if he was shooting a barn that was 5 feet in front of him.
First off this is a hard ceiling you hit it like a building without damage second the ceiling is very very low only allowing you very limited space and freedom to counter the AV in this game. I used to love flying up as high as possible going upside down adding thrust to gain up tons of speed point my nose down continuing the free fall then pull up at the last second skimming just a few feet from the ground. :) I would have enigma going oh $hit oh $hit oh $hit sometimes.
No I do not know how the flight mechanics preform because when i started flying my drop ship I hit the ceiling was like what is going on flew forward a 100 feet tried going up again hit a wall above me and just said screw this. this is not right and just let my drop ship plumet to the ground as I jumped out because I was so pissed. ya 300k worth of viper was left to crash into the ground because I was pretty pissed but I plan on testing it out and seeing if the flight mechanics let me to achieve what I did last build in flying close ground maneuver. |

My favorite thing to do was get my dropship full, fly up high, then do like 3 consecutive barrel rolls and make everyone bail. Trollololololol |

Some very high ceiling is fine if it is implemented as a performance issue. I can't get over 10k feet in my Cessna, and you can forget about making it into orbit in a light aircraft of any type. Having the ship wallow a bit at its performance ceiling was realistic and incrreased the player skill requirement.
Limiting advanced plasma jet technology to a few hundred feet is completely ludicrous. My Cesna can fly circles around your dropship and thousands of feet higher. Doing it with a force field turns it into a cheap arcade ride.
The most effective ceiling is the fact that you can't do anything after you achieve a certain altitude because everything below disappears into the distance. |

Way way too low. I feel like I can't dodge swarms as well (even with the improved handling), because I keep scrapping the ceiling and losing any momentum I may have had. |

lower than the angled top buildings on the 3 point map. Iv been flying since E3 and this sucks! cant barrel roll or flip, lose momentum trying to escape missiles, cant even fly up high enough to drop in for a fast fly over Aaaaargh! I can see clear sky's this build if CCP don't do something. new controls seem good however. a bit heavier and better turning. just lose the ceiling, its not like we were flying where people couldn't shoot us before. |

Or they could just add an out of bounds to the top of buildings, that would work (and give me just enough time to blow up the home base Rail installation) although I don't like the way tactics are being removed for a more....dare I say......COD experience.
in EVE its ok to cut the power to someones house so you can kill his Titan but in Dust you drop your squad on a tower and people rage |

I suspect that your Cessna has a slightly different propulsion method, which requires atmosphere (at least looking at drop-ships, this appears to not be the case for them).
That said, I think making thrust decrease as a factor of elevation could be a valid game-mechanism to keep drop-ships from flying too high. Linear decrease after 1K, maxing out at a few Ks? |
