i think a bow or crossbow would be kool,i rater see a bow though so it can be different.bow and arrows cans be stealthy and replace silencer guns because everyone says they suck..maybe have a support type arrow for the Bow or xbow,it can be like a emp arrow.also exsplosive round tipped grenades..even reguler arrows or arrows that drill after contact .some peope will be thinking bout robin hood bows and crossbows.but in a sense yes but the bow and arror would use will have incredible pull which causes speed etc. to kill.after all bow, xbow have been around since the begning of time in war.below is a link to a picture of a tip on a arrow that would be a genral idea

We are thousands of years in the future, and even the most primitive race is using crazy powetful machineguns, others are using railguns, plasma weapons, and lasers... and you want a bow or crossbow? I say no. I would prefer a slow firing rifle with verylittle sound for stealth. Could be a Caldari railgun, or a Minmatar artillery gun. It could have a bunch of variants with different ammo types (like exploding, EMP, etc). There is a reason crossbows, and bows in generally not used anymore by modern militaries; they are obsolete. Next time please make an effort in spelling. This is a pain to type on my phone. |

A railgun is basically a futuristic crossbow. You're just using magnetism to propel the bolt instead of spring-action, which means you can get it up to much higher speeds. If you tune down the power of the magnets enough, you would be able to make a silent railgun that works in exactly the same way as a crossbow, but is more effective in a futuristic environment because it's still propelling your bolt at much higher speeds than a spring-action bow could ever achieve. And at the same time it would be much less bulky.
I know it doesn't fulfill your dream of having a crossbow from a cosmetic perspective, but functionally it would be identical, and it would make more sense in the context of the game. |

No, no its not. Railguns use electromagnetism. A crossbow works with string by definition. If you want a railgun, say you want a railgun, I already said a railgun would work. People shuldn't have to go to a different thread to see your arguments. Whether or not some primitive tech can be adapted to be scifi is not the issue, the issue is that its not nearly the most effective method to deliver a round. Why use an inferior and weak method when there are much much much superior methods available? I know a simple request doesn't mean its going to be in the game, but I have just as much right to voice my dislike of an idea as you have to propose an idea. Hearing only from the people who want something, and not from those who appose would give an innacurate portrayal of what players want.
I know where this is going, so I won't post here again. |

If it isn't something that uses a bow string to launch a projectile, then it isn't a bow or crossbow. If you want some futuristic whatever-the-hell that does magical stuff and for some dumb reason has a crossbow-shaped design to it, say that. But either way, using a bow string to fire projectiles in the year 25,000 where people are running around with personal shields and firing plasma bullets at each other is really silly. |

That's like putting ballista catapults on EVE Online ships.
You: why does it have to e a bow string, could be a magnetic pull with plasma used like a railgun.. or something.
...Because without the Kinetic flux from a bow and string, you can't call it a crossbow.
You: "long as the weapon has the general feel or idea should satify most.."
Most? What the hell gives you the idea that most would approve of this? Give Wolf's reply a second look.
Wolf's reply: "Hearing only from the people who want something, and not from those who appose would give an innacurate portrayal of what players want."

Irrelevant, they're still coming from a magnetic not-crossbow that can be out performed by pretty much every other weapon available. |

crossBow....Bow
by definition a Bow is a tensioned projectile weapon.
It generally gets its name from its Shape, as the weapon is Bowed, the bow in the frame generating the tension that is then transferred to the missile.
all that aside, is there any reason to use sub-sonic ammunition?
most of the weaponry that will be in this game uses massive amounts of force to achieve fatal damage to targets. The obvious exceptions being energy weapons.
If there was a reason to have sub-sonic projectile weapons.... what would they be? |

It has to have a bow string because it's a (cross)bow. That's the defining feature of these ancient weapons. If you want something that uses magnets to accelerate a piece of metal like a railgun, then it's a railgun and not a bow. And it's also in the game already and looks like a sniper rifle.
So if you want something that just looks like a crossbow for whatever reason, like the gun Chewbacca from Star Wars runs around with, but doesn't actually behave like a crossbow in any way, then what you want isn't, in fact, a crossbow. |

Why are people trying to be Green Arrow in a sci-fi space marine game? Why?
It's bad enough this stuff exists in Blops. I mean, seriously, how many modern armies have Spec Ops guys who run around with explosing crossbow bolts? But now we have guys that can use nanites to create ammo and suits and guns almost instantly, with the ability to call in vehicles to be airdropped in at a moment's notice, and people want CROSSBOWS?
How about.... no. |

In our day we have armor that will stop bullets but not a knife or a crossbow bolt or an arrow. The armor is designed for high velocity impacts. Medieval armor could take some basic gun fire of the time, but a well placed arrow or bolt (or rapier) would take them down.
All armor has weaknesses. (shields>armor ) So, are the shield and armor of EVE build for Plasma and other high velocity items, yes. So, what are their weaknesses? Would a low velocity piercing weapon slip right through? THE answer is yes. or discount the Nova Knife entirely as it is a handheld human strength propelled weapon that damages shields and armor - it doesn't get much lower velocity than that.
If a nova knife does damage then put it on a stick and throw it or launch it from a bow. Speaking to the EVE ships and rail guns etc. If i had a gun that fired asteroids you would still be scared - primitive and slower than railguns it can still plow through fleet of ships. JUST because something is primitive does not mean it will not work - see the knife and CCP's talk of putting handheld projectiles into the game (i.e. more advanced guns that fire hot lead for example). We commonly refer to them as guns - sure they may be advanced but they do the same thing.
A bow or xbow could work. |
