Veigar Mordekaiser wrote:These guys just don't know how to market their games properly. My guess, is that because EVE effectively advertises itself, they don't know how to advertise Dust, because they haven't had the proper experience.
I mean, if I look up an EVE fleet battle at school to show to one friend, next thing I know there are 10-15 people gathered around saying "Dude thats epic!" and all of a sudden there are 10-15 people that have been subject to free advertising.
Where as with Dust, there really isn't very much thats epic about it right now....
Or...you know...it's a beta. Not a launched game. It's still in development and there seem to be plenty of excited people in and out of the beta itself. |

Doesn't matter if it's beta. Would you wait til after you launched the game to advertise it? All I'm saying is that Dust doesn't have the backbone to create hype based off player stories, it needs advertisement, news of the future, and things of the sort. Right now CCP is saying very little about what they're actually doing, and a whole lot about what they want to do in the distant future.
And my point is that a lot of interest has already been generated. These forums are more active than those of many launched games. There are corps already forming up. Clans from other games are showing a strong interest and looking to start corps. The game was a big hit at E3, TGS, and gamescon. They have a pretty good presence on facebook, youtube, and twitter, and are featured pretty frequently on the main Playstation blog as well as other mainstream gaming sites. What more can you suggest that they do at this point from a marketing perspective?
And of course they are being quiet. The game is still in development. We have a general idea of what to expect in the next patch, but not much specific beyond that. Why? Because the development roadmap - in specific terms - is based off of that next patch. So yes, all we know are generalities, because that's all that is certain. It's not like CCP has a finished launch-ready version of the game with complete features, graphics, items, etc. and is just stringing us along with incremental updates... |

Veigar Mordekaiser wrote:Interest wont last without information and substance. CoD gathers interest, and delivers everything that those interested are looking for. Right now, Dust has interest, future plans (ideas), but no substance or information of what has already been accomplished. When we have real information, then the interest will matter.
...as a member of the beta, you have access to the substance.
...as a member of the public at large, you have access to information. Just as with any other game before launch. CoD didn't provide anything more than information in the form of trailers, discussions, and articles before they launched. DUST is actually doing more in that they are allowing for a very player-driven beta experience to drive development. |

Tarn Adari wrote:Why do you all think you're entitled to anything? They don't have anything they want to talk about right now. Just because we are beta testers doesn't mean we have the right to be involved in the complete development process. We are essentially working for them and we are paid by having early access to the game. Do we really need one thread after the other, crying for attention and demanding information?
I got some news for you: We are NOT special.
I wish I could just keep liking this post.
If CCP "broke their promise" and releases the patch a couple days late...so what? We are here at their invitation. Respect. |

Are you being sarcastic? Because there was both an interview and new footage shown at TGS... |

Actually, if what IRC is saying is correct, it was of footage from a build newer than precursor, but not the TGS build.
Still - a newer build than current, showing progress. |

Forlorn Destrier wrote:This is the problem. Everything we "know" is from a friend or someone one IRC. nothing from CCP. So why did people believe the build was last week? Because of the con in Japan. Why did people think the build was today? Because of the new PS3 dropping. No one at CCP has ever said it was coming and until I see CCP announce in writing then its not coming.
Wel, my statement regarding the video was actually from CCP Frame via IRC. So it's not all speculation. But until we have patch notes posted... |
