I'm curious to see people's response to this.
Is Dust aimed at the FPS fan? The guy who plays CoD pretty much exclusively?
Do you think it's aimed more towards Battlefield players?
Perhaps people who play EVE online?
What do you think?

I'm not but I don't think CCP knows who they are aiming at.

You're talking about a severely limited view at a barely moving portion of a game.
I think you'll find that only the basics of the game will resemble the final product.
To say that some dude who has such a small, restricted overview on a product would be able to properly gauge what CCP's goal is, is the pretense of knowledge. |

I hope this answers you question. As quoted from David Reid. Full interview Being a hardcore MAG fan, I would have to agree.
"the shooter audience is very different, so part of our thinking is that the goal in the immediate term is to try and bring in a very veteran FPS player, so not someone whoGÇÖs just played COD or Battlefield, but someone who has played M.A.G., who is familiar with the core shooter experience regardless of EVE, and is used to these battlefield-like experiences with all these vehicles etcGǪ, but with the integrity of our economy. I mean there are no magic spawnpoints where a tank appeared GÇô that tank was paid for with ISK by someone who earned that money fighting elsewhere.
ThatGÇÖs a very different kind of player to someone whoGÇÖs just playing Call of Duty this holiday, because they played Call of Duty last holiday because all their friends play it and itGÇÖs the only thing theyGÇÖve ever played. Ultimately we believe those kinds of people are our target customer, but we donGÇÖt believe we need to go after them right away, especially during Q4. I mean when we think of PlayStation 3 we think of M.A.G., SOCOM, KillzoneGǪ all these people and clans who are accustomed to the core shooter experience. Once we move out from that, thatGÇÖs when we start targeting the Halo and the Call of Duty or Borderlands guys, but they will have a different level experience as that first circle will have." |

Almost none of the content is implemented yet.
There is a "world of weapons" that are still coming, and much more. |

Right now it's aimed at people that want an arena shooter with slight objective based gameplay and a decent matchmaking system. We are sticking our toes in an ocean that is not yet filled. Be patient, the audience will change and grow. |

The big problem at present, as I see it, is that CCP has let in far too many 'beta testers' unquote, who don't really seem to understand that its a BETA.
Its not going to be perfect, its not going to be 100% functional, it won't have all features, all the time. At times it will be frustrating.
Sadly, there seems to be many players who don' t understand this, yet the word 'Beta' is plastered everywhere. I am getting a laugh out of the 'I QUIT' ragethreads, must be frustrating for the devs though. |

Dust is aimed at people who like the EVE sandbox, player controlled economy and end game etc etc, but can't get into the space ship gameplay. Simplified CCP's trying to repackage the things that make EVE special into a different play style. |

I have played in a few betas (currently in three counting dust) over the years.
it has been my experience that betas and the end product do not differ by huge amount game play/structure wise.
I WANT dust to be great and i WANT it to be more, but im just afraid that its not going to happen.
everyone does it different however... CCP may make the changes that dust needs to be great. they may be in beta another year and get everything right in the end, i hope they do.
right now however, its my OPINION that such major changes will not be made. usually for that to happen said game is usually in alpha.
but i could be wrong. remember, opinions are like butt holes. everyone has one and they all stink. |

simple answer #1 : not tweens simple answer #2 : the adults that have longed for a game like this for, many, MANY years.
[EDIT] CCP know their consumer base, I don't play EVE but have always respected the concept. This game is history in the making and I for one am very proud to be part of it's buggy, glitchy, laggy, screen clipping and fault abusing glory!
We are the pioneers of the future....

I wondered if Zipper Interactive is working on this title... They did a awesome job making MAG. I only wish they would have made the game a lil bit less repetitive. They always placed focal points in one trajectory... An the game got to where you only have to be in the `right place to get all the good kills. I played the beta and it kinda killed the entire game for me... I was really hoping I was only seeing a small aspect of game play, but they kinda gave the entire game in the beta... After that I was just like, dang... I'm playing a prettier beta.
I bought it anyway... I just couldn't afford the DLC, so I ended up given it to my brother in law.
Now if this title.... if they throw in over 256 players per-game... It would really need a lot larger map, but there would be some hard core strategy game going on.
This is a First person shooter... If they added a deathmatch... It would attract, EVERY type of FPS shooter fan. |

I think it is going to be pushed as an FPS that anyone can jump into (as evident by the bundling with PS3 in north america)?but the people will be playing more more than a week will be the "one big vice game" type of people. You know, the WOW, Diablo, EVE, or any big free to play kind of fan who may play other games on the side, but always end up coming back to and spending time with their vice game. I think the passive SP is a good indicator that this will be a "play a lot, take a break for you annual AAA game, than come back to spend all of your SP and try new builds" kind of game. Add in expantions every six months and you have even more reason to come back... If you are a "One big vice game" kind of gamer. |

It should be aimed exclusively at FPS.
We eve players just happened to have first crack at it.
Weather this game is exclusively aimed at fps is up to debate.
I am not an exclusive console gamer, so weather or not CCP is suceeding at this goal is probably answered better by more dedicated console FPS'rs. |

who's perspective are you looking from?
sony?
ccp?
both?
i would think it's somewhere between the first two since sony have invested into the game development i presume.
from both ccp and sonys point of view they would want their normal playerbase and the added sales on hardware (sony) and nickle and diming customers for as much money as possible, flip side is that CCP gain subscriptions to EvE from console customers. that all means making an awesome game that caters to PC gamers and console gamers. |
