All of my hard freezes where I have to restart the PS3 happen on this map. At the ratio of every 2 to 3 games that's a big failure rate. Am I the only one that is experiencing this?

Interestingly enough, i never had an issue with that map....until the AV hotfix. Maybe they messed with something during that fix that caused the issues, i really don't know, but i can pinpoint that day to being the turning point. I had never experienced the buckets of lag and freeze ups that occur on that map until after the hotfix. I used to be excited when we got into a 5 point object map. Now when the screen loads and i see it i cringe knowing that a freeze and restart are in my immediate future. It's not just you. I play with a large group of regulars in a private chat channel and when i freeze up, literally half of those people also do. It's a common issue.
One would assume that maybe since the tanks are less prevalent more people are actually playing and causing a higher server load, but if you actually check the user count on the Singularity server we've actually got far less players on average than we used to. Strange. I've noticed a huge increased in the amount of dropships and LAVs being utilized recently, maybe that's got something to do with it? 100% of the time that i freeze up in that map i am in a vehicle at the time. That can't be a coincidence.
I just accept it, do my restart and get back to business. |

It is definately not out of the PS3's capability range. From what I understand it is a specialized art to make use of the available power that the PS3 has. I'm sure CCP is working on it.
If you don't believe me try a game like Batman Arkam City. Amazing graphics (For a Console)---huge-HUGE map with a huge skybox (if you know what that is) It's not multiplayer, but most of the workload of multiplayer is done on the server end anyways.
Sorry--PS3 fanboy here. It's hard when you have the Xbox guys constantly putting down the PS3's futuristic hardware in favor of what is basically a glorified 7 year old economy desktop computer. |

To those that are in the know and have experienced the issue, would you think it's a server issue or a local hardware issue? Logically i suppose it would actually be local since it actually hard locks the system.
I retract my previous assumption it is server based. Though maybe it is?? I really don't know.
Regardless, it's a constant problem for a lot of people primarily on that size map. |

The lag is largely a server-side problem. Sisi's holding several times it's normal amount of players right now.

To put some things in perspective.
The spike's in the longer term graphs represent the moving of DUST to the Singularity server. |

Fun experiment: on any given map, while you're waiting to spawn in, hold down L2 (or maybe it's R2) to zoom out. Take note of what a trivially small portion of the actual map you can play on. |

Imagine the failure that would procede trying to accomplish this on the 360...
I think that this issue is due to "streaming" of the maps or the rendering system in place
even still the 360 would never come close to being able to handle this magnitude on that system, and the Wii or even the new wiiU wouldn't come close to the ps3 capabilities...
sure they all pale in comparison to a good PC gaming rig... but personally I prefer console play for the stability and not having to upgrade at such cost as oftern

Thanks for the the idea and link. Right after I posted this I had another hard freeze on this map. So I straight away tried this fix, as I like the scope of the map and it's mix of ambush and skirmish qualities. Unfortunately it didn't work out. I played another battle on the map and made it to the end without losing all the SP & ISK for a change.
Yet right at the returning to neocom hold screen, another hard freeze.
So it's not the file system being fragmented. It's not the hard drive as I just put in a bigger hybrid drive(500GB). Which leaves either the connectivity, server or the code...?
Come on Devs; this is a major issue on one of your nicest maps. Some info on the cause and if you're working on it would be nice

P.S. Running a 320GB slim It is definately not out of the PS3's capability range. From what I understand it is a specialized art to make use of the available power that the PS3 has. I'm sure CCP is working on it. If you don't believe me try a game like Batman Arkam City. If you want proof of how the PS3 can easily handle the load this game puts on it, try loading up current multiplayer games and look at the graphics for starters. Games like BF3 and others, including single player games (Like Skyrim) have been slowly increasing the load on the PS3, with minimal side effects. I know from a hardware perspective as well the PS3 is at least twice the machine the 360 could ever be, and trying to run this on that POS system would be a joke. There are some bugs, but they're working on the vast majority of them, and the others, USE THE GD REPORTING SYSTEM please. |

It seems to be the very same crash we had on the pre e3 build. (Crater Lake was it?).
They removed that map due to crashes that came from memory leaks there. I'm presuming it's a similar issue and there's some holes need plugging on that particular map.
I've lost no end of tanks and had crashes very frequently on that map. It's a shame too as people have said, it's one of the much better maps. |
