I have been playing since before the E3 build, and as a Tank driver I only just a few hours ago got caldari HAV skill up to level V.
I've just brought a fully prototype-level equiped black ops tank into a game to see if its worth its salt or not.
its not.
less than 100k isk from a forgegunner who knows what he is doing will take out a 4,000,000 ISK: 155 aurum tank just as easy as a saga or gunlogi.
People keep complaining about tanks, and now they are trying to force tank drivers into a driving only role by splitting the main turret duties to a gunner. I am all for the OPTION of letting someone use my turret, but if I lose the ability to move and fire with something I invested over a month of my time and money into, I'm going to quit this game and stop recommending it to my friends.

Drivers get assist points, so they cant feel too much pain... if their gunners are good..
And they should not make tanks require a second player to shoot.. what about people like me who have no friends |

LAV and Dropship are designed to MOVE TROOPS, not to be frontline combat vehicles.
Seriously, that strawman argument about tanks being 'the same' as them really needs to die.
Tanks==Designed solely as a fighting machine.
LAV==A jeep made to haul peeps around quickly, has a gun for self defense.
Dropship==A troop transport equivalent to a helicopter. Guns are for support of the troops its dropping.
Also, it's really stupidly tough to get 'roadkills' on a tank. For some reason you have to be going near max speed to do damage, and it's easy for the foe to slide off. Mind you, Dropships have it harder having to 'pancake' someone, but it's stupidly easy to run people over in an LAV like you're playing bumper cars. |

I've tried playing around in militia versions on each the LAV HAV and Dropship and I have to say the solo power of a tank is well over 9000 due to the fact that they are so agile, I'm using WW2 tanks as reference here, anything quick has little to no armor anything slow is armored to all hell and there were very few or no tanks that were fast and strong at the same time.
They have armor that can really only be broken by AV weaponry which although is extremely powerful itself does little to an HAV when compared to an LAV or Dropship, even my fully upgraded Grim can only armor tank as good as my militia Soma.
Sure you can argue that the tank is for combat only, but honestly its still too powerful in my opinion. |

Doesn't mean anything. It still transports people.
HAV's main purpose is to assault and defend. An LAV is more of a vehicle someone uses to get around the map quickly. |

So shouldn't it carry more considering that's it's purpose l? |

Nope it does exactly what it is supposed to do. They have speed over other things. |

I can understand arguments for a solitary "driver" role in a HAV, but "dropships and LAVs are like that" isn't a good one. They occupy a completely different role. When we get gunships they probably won't have separate driver/gunner points and I wouldn't be surprised if there end up being more combat oriented LAVs of some manner too. |

But it is useless because driving in a tank means higher survivability and damage output so u don't see the problem in giving the lav another seat or 2 |

That is why the LAV is o cheap compared to the HAV which has the same amount of seats. |

True but for higher survivability and sp, the tank is the wiser choice |

Separating the driver and main turret is actually more efficient.
Give the tank driver both analog sticks to control the tank, and the tank will see an increase in maneuverability and control.
Coupled to this the main gun being freed from the drivers control, will then be manned 100% of the time, and not just when the driver can spare attention for it. The main gun in this scenario can fire at targets in a 360degree arc even whilst the tank is maneuvering thru buildings.
How can you not see this as a buff to tank damage output and survivability?
i ask in all seriousness.
I can understand that you might feel that as a player your KDR will drop, but your WP will not! Your SP gains should feasibly increase, as your gunners now have control of the main turret, and you full time control over positioning and survival. |

Ignoring all the general stuff and talking directly to OP here
I'm in the same-ish position as you right now but here's what I did:
Standard non militia blaster turret for main gun Cycled Missile turret for front secondary Frag missile turret for top turret
Double heavy shield extenders of whatever you can fit that gives you the most HP 15% (damn over nerf) shield resist A small shield rep size doesn't mean much here but figure this part last and get as big as you can
Two Power Grid boosters, and not the kind that give you HP Two Nano fiber speed boosters that give you the biggest boost possible
This fit can speed around the battlefield at just over 3/4ths standard LAV speed, fast enough to get crush kills going full tilt I believe. You are fast enough to run away from most anything and you should have just enough buffer HP to do so if needed. The cycled turret can put out massive suppression while the frag turret can use the extra splash to knock out people in cover and people right next to the tank it's self. Anyone standing still or close to it by the tank, like forge gunners will vaporize under the blaster and that same blaster will let you tear into vehicles nicely.
This fit is meant to be a tactical asset to dart around the field flanking targets and suppressing Infantry before retreating to tend to its wounds both letting objectives be captured and forcing even distribution of AV assets by outmaneuvering small concentrated blobs for AV. You get in rock face and then use the local rep to get you ready for round 2 as quick as possible
This fit is not meant to sit still for any length of time and punch face hard targets and vehicles. This fit dose poorly against dropships.
You WILL need a full squad on coms to make proper, or rather full, use of this fit though. You need to be able to talk to your gunners so that missile turrets hammer turrets out of your normal range. You need to know when you need to swing your main gun around to give your top gunner a better shot when swatting flies. You need to both be paying full attention to your surroundings, AND the whole battlefield to avoid threats and hit targets best so you need to be in contact with someone looking at the map a lot. You need gunners who can hop out to either take objectives or use swarms against dropships.
Ideally your map guy is your squad commander in a remote repair LAV getting all his points from squad command kickbacks who can rep you up quicker between fights, or in dire times rep you mid fight against other tanks fit for tank hunting all the while ready to call in those orbital strikes your racking up to help you deal with turrets and AV beyond your ability to deal with. |
