and I feel completely lost. My average round is like 3-7 with maybe one single supply depot hacked. I am really excited about this game though and want to get better. Do you guys have any good tips? Suggested class? This game looks huge and I feel like I'd be missing out if I'd just stop playing it. |

The more you play the better you will get. That's with any game. You have to learn how to pick your weapons and your dropsuits. Once you get used to the game then you will dominate. But nothing can help you if you suck in video games lol. |

Welcome ! Definetly stick with it, actually 3-7 is not a bad start. We always recommend buy one of all militia gear it is stuff you only need to buy once and does not need replacing. This gives you an opportunity to build a few different type of suits and see what your play style might be before investing a lot of So down a road you may not like.
Also read the stickey above about new players.
Run with a group is always smart too even if you just follow one guy for awhile. There are several chanells you can join that are like pick up groups.

Pick a weapon and pile skill points into it. Practice with that breed of weapon so you know your engagement ranges and capabilities. Some fights are for winning, some are for running.
Some skills will simply unlock items, some provide bonuses to different thing. Electronics and Engineering are examples of core fitting skills. Any skill with "upgrade" in the the name probably provides a fitting bonus to something.
Run with cheap fits at the start until you get a better feel for the flow.
Get in a squad, be on voice comms.

Pretty much this right here.
With any game, there is no real "standard" for each players style. It might take some time to work with this game as massive as it is, but it will work out in the long run overall. Trust me, I had to go through plenty of trail and error as is to figure out that I am really good with Heavy classes on Burst Machine guns.
As Don said, learn to pick the things that fit you and ask questions like you currently are right now, but try to explore the game a bit by looking at what works best for you. Then you will feel good playing. |

Buy militia suits, weapons, modules etc. They require no skills to use and don't run out. Then experiment with different things, you'll still suck a bit but you'll find a direction you want to go. Then increase skills related to the things you like.
Also there are a few skills useful to everything, you can never go wrong raising these
Electronics - more CPU for better fits Engineering - more pg for better fits Mechanics - more armor for everything Shield management - more shields for everything

I started horrible at first too (my ratio speaks for itself) but I've definitely gotten a lot better. So as said before just keep playing and you will gradually get better. |

This forum has many topics with very good pointers in it. Also, describing how you would like to play would help (assault, logistic, scout, heavy, vehicles etc..). ;)
Let's just say that if your average game is 3-7 and you just started, it's not that bad.
Here's an advice that will help a lot at this early stage if you play any kind of regular infantry. Skill shield operation, shield upgrade and shield management as its the most interesting defense at the moment. It will allow you to boost your shield and open the use for better shield modules.
Your basic assault rifle is good enough for now. Just upgrade the optimal range of effect of the weapon you use. For assault rifle, it would be "light weapon sharpshooter". get that at level 2 and you'll already see a big difference at mid range.
Also, depending on the suit you use, get the skill at level 2 so you can use the "type-2" armor that's oriented on shield defense. Combined with the upgrade in shield skills, you'll be a lot more resiliant.
Weaponry is also a top priority as it boosts the damage of every handheld weapon. Enhancing any type of play you'd like to try.
Boost those stuff in whatever order you see fit. Depending on what you feel you need most.
EDIT : Buying every militia gear like somene else suggested is something you should do also. |

The game is bad. Don't waste your time: they're not improving this conquest wannabe failure copy that falls short. Should play a lot more like RUSH than conquest, but obviously they're not going in that direction so, not worth it. |

I think you should improve the skills you like playing with the most in first person games.
If you like the assualt class.
Improve your assaualt rifle skills.
I would improve gernades last.
If you like submachine guns or pistols, improve the one you perfer. I perfer submachine guns.
Last build I played with the assualt class and I had alot of fun.
Now I'm playing with the sniper and that's just as fun to me.
At first I sucked, but I got better.

Stuffle one thing I have found is having dropsuit fittings labled by there roll on the battlefield.
Assault Skin Close
^Thats an example of a fit I use on maps that are closed in on those facilities. Naturally its fitted to perform best in close quarters.
Logi Inf: Logi for when Im trying to support the troops. Logi V : Logi for when Im rollin about in my buddys tank
Sniper Custom: Non militia gear more expensive loss but hits like a truck Sniper Skin: Skinweave mostly militia gear.
Assault AV: You guessed it anti vehicle build.
A simple way to get easy SP is packing a nanite injector. you get + 60 for every person you revive. Incredibly useful on TDM.
Remember: There are two kinds of mercs in Dust. Those that know where the nearest cover is, and those that are dead.
Skilling into better guns skills on a specific weapon tend to pay off pretty well. More kills regardless of what variant of a weapon your using.
Keep an eye on your mini map. Alway survey your surroundings before acting. If solo dont fire needlessly on something unless your positive you can get the kill. In RL you wouldnt fire needlessly on some one because it would draw attention to you, something you want to avoid unless you have back up. If your a sniper never get to comfortable in one spot. |

My skill suggestions (assault):
Shield management Shield Upgrades Armor Management Repair systems (?) Caldari Drop Suit Weaponry Assault Rifle Operation
I'm not ingame, so I can't give you exact names, but basically upgrade your shields, armor, drop suit, and weapon handling. The order you choose to do it in is up to you. |

Personally, I went for the the skill that upgraded my maximum armour 1st (at work so cant tell you the name), then I put a little into the light weapon skills, as they assist in whatever light weapon you choose.
Once I found out what weapon I wanted to spec in, I started to upgrade the skills for that particular weapon.
From there, I worked around the skills that maximised the potential of the free dropsuits, upgrading certain skills allowing me to do that little bit more.
Personally, I don't recommend investing your SP into dropsuits until you are fully comfortable with your playstyle and you have some money behind you to compensate for losses. dropsuits are the most expensive kit (vehicles excluded) to purchase, and you don't really want to be pumping money into something when you cant maximise its potential.

I think that's armor upgrades (I said management).
As for dropsuits, I totally agree. the only upside w/getting the assault drop suit up was the ability to unlock the Type II with two slots (one for armor plate mod, one for armor repair mod). The armor repair mod comes in very handy when my shield gets cracked (as sniper rifles always do).
Either way, shield, armor and weapons will improve all three aspects for a well-rounded leveling and ability to stay standing longer. |

Skills
One thing I've found, is it's *much* better to get a lot of essential skills first to at least 3 or so, than going straight for IV or V in one certain skill to get that extra 5% bonus to damage or hp/shield etcs. Getting Weaponry to 3 is easy and a big one to get , gives you a 15% damage increase on any handheld weapon, no matter whether it's light/heavy etc. Instead of trying to get it to 4 right away you can get Armor Upgades to 2 or 3 and get yourself an extra 10-15% armor on any dropsuit you use. You could also get a couple ranks in electronics/engineering skills to make fitting gear easier or to increase shield regen 5-10%, without a ton of sp investment.
Fittings
Also, some things that help if you are just trying a certain weapon/equipment combo and just want to see how it works etc, don't forget to try even militia PG or CPU upgrades. They have no cpu/pg cost and give bonuses to one or the other, making it easier to try out a combo without having to invest heavily in skills or upgrades etc.
One thing I'd recommend doing that I wish I had done sooner is putting the 40k sp into Grenades for the Locus grenade. It takes 9cpu and 2pg, freeing up a few points to cram something on you want to try, combining that with the pg/cup upgrades will give you a lot more fitting options for testing gear. It is the same damage as a militia grenade, but you can hold 3 instead of 2 grenades and they only cost around 1400 apiece I think. Just one map, whether you win or lose, would replace the money you spend to buy 50 of these grenades. Practice a lot with grenades, you can hold down the grenade button to prime it before you throw so it explodes earlier after you toss it. With proper timing you can even get them to explode in mid-air, meaning you can more easily hit enemies behind cover, or who have a tactical height advantage like up on a walkway or building etc.
Help the team out and get faster sp gains!
For an easy flow of warpoints to help get more sp, one thing everyone should do is make a dropsuit setup that uses the militia uplink. Spawn points are crucial in any map, but especially Ambush and such. Drop a few uplinks and hives early in the match then maybe one or 2 times later as you spawn. Not only will it help out your team immensely, if you have an uplink/nanohive combo you can drop 2 of each even with just a militia setup. This gives you a good chance of random +25wp from spawns and +10wp from resupplying friendlies, even after you switch out to other gear. They do not poof upon your death or switching to a different dropsuit setup, so you can even use your own uplinks/nanohives after switching!
One last thing, consider using a militia smg instead of the scrambler if you want a much deadlier close range option! They don't have the range the scrambler does, but they have an incredibly fast fire rate and do 20dmg per bullet. They have a 64 round clip for the militia version or 80 round clip for the basic smg that costs around $4k or so. And as others have said, dont' forget to buy one of each of the militia weapons and modules/etc and try them out to see how they would fit your playstyle and fittings.
I've only played a couple weeks now but these are a few things that I've found that help, have fun!!
