Just went 17-0 in my Madrugar. Not amazing, but getting there. And I did have to spend at least 2-3 minutes straight hiding behind a building repairing it in my Scout suit that I affectionally named "pilot". So while I was hit hard before. I'm back. And I'm gonna make all these AV ******** eat their words. |

And by smarter u mean camping. So u r encouaraging them to camp and hide. Theres no other way to play as a tank driver. if get aggresive u get destroed. stay next to ur team maybe but ur always behind them camping behind a rock. |

Tanks need support to live.
Tanks can't survive on a real battle field if they do not have infantry support to keep enemy infantry away from them. Don't use the ( WELL THIS IS THE FUTURE) argument, because that's irrelevant. As tanks have evolved, so have the weapons to destroy them. They need support in order to survive. |

Now fill all of the buildings he passes with enemies carrying a variety of weapons that could kill the tank.

The tank get's barraged with RPG's rifle fire, grenades, and anything else you can think of.
That tank will go down.
Tanks are not gods on the battle field.

as someone who played competitive BF3 with their glass tanks its all about playin zones i saw tankers pre nerf just careless rush in and spam missiles and laugh as all the incoming AV spam only tickled their gunnlogi/sargaris shields
In bf3 a skilled tanker even with the glass tanks will require teamwork to take down, when i tank in DUST it still requires teamwork to take me down was the nerf a bit too much? yes imo the increased dmg combined with heavy nerfs on passive resists was a bit overboard but 1 guy wont solo me i can tell u that much
ive never played aggressive....or as i like to call it stupid-aggressive and just rush into mobs to wtfpwn them wat i usually do is survey the map and always leave myself with a quick exit route if im engaging a grp
im HOPING that this heavy nerf to passive resists the active hardeners are actually really good. those alone should give u a big resist bonus for a short time imo
PS: tanks were not impossible to take down before. ppl were just retards, we took down multiple pre nerf with either pure AV or bringing out a tank of our own. tanks now are a bit too easy to take down so scrubs are all happy. This game will end up just like MAG with the trend CCP setting of "cry too much and u get ur wish" Heavies got nerfed cuz dumbasses kept runnin straight at them in the 1st build now heavies are a joke and free kills along with the logi suit lol |

The point of a tank is to be able to take a beating and still kill there fair share of infantry. I don't excpect to win a 3v10 but when is tht ever the case. Most of the time its 2 or 3 at a time. Which i understand losing to. But not from 1 soldier with AV. |

As someone who served in the military, I can tell you for sure that 99% of the time the armored units weren't too comfortable rolling alone, often us Cavalry Scouts preceded them to verify that there were no traps, ambushes or infantry. Tanks are powerful machines, but war has adapted to include them. They are not huge iron invincible killers, they're tools like jeeps, infantryman, helicopters, etc. It may take a different weapon to effectively down them (as with the other units have their own weaknesses) but they are not invincible or even really as rough as is made out.
Typically in my experience a tank will roll with at least a jeep of special infantryman nearby itself assigned to it as well, as no tank wanders alone. That is just suicide with it's lack of maneuverability and glaring weaknesses. Pair a tank with even 2 competent infantryman and you have a force to be reckoned with. |

I hate to say it, but this really does come down to L2P.
If you're getting soloed by a single AV guy, you either have a crap fitting, or you are playing too aggressive. It's likely a bad habit you've formed during the time before the patch where tanks could roll through the middle of the red blob, OHK everyone in sight, shrug off the damage, and end the match 80-0 as a squad with no lost risk of losing ISK. |

I like the new nerfed tanks, you can't drive into a group of enemies witouth thinking, you have to stick to the infantry for mutual support. What i fiear is that all the crappy drivers that skilled a tank for "i win" button will now start camping on the other side of the map getting kills giving exactly 0 help to theyr teammates. |

tank pilots are always chicken as soon as their shields dip below 50% they start running with their investment. can't wait for stasis fields to keep them still to take away the rest of their precious tank they "worked" so hard to get. |

Despite what other anti-tank whiners have managed to convince the rest of you of, skilling into a tank, and driving it is not easier than skilling into AV gear. Far from it. Some, severely dishonest players have managed to present their case as if all it took to skill into tanks were a little armour and shield, and the HAV skill itself, they have done so repeatedly, and for so long now that they are starting to believe their own lies. Admitted, you can get into a tank fast, but that tank will die fast as well. Skilling into a tank means skilling info decent assault or other roles first, in order to earn SP, THEN you can start skilling into the HAV itself, and before you can even use it, you have to train up a myriad of other skills. Some are shared with the suits, others are not. For instance there are the turrets. First small turrets, then large ones, and they have proficiencies as well that are needed to be a good tank. The list is too long for me to waste my time iterating it here, but training a tank is NOT fast, NOR easy.
Training AV however, IS. I have done so. |

Where was this type of outcry when the AV took a 25% nerf, the suits got reduced the same HP for every level...tanks remained the same as they were at the start of this build....now AV has been restored by 20%, tanks have to actually act like any other player and choose their battles and their risk vs reward. Tanks got 3 weeks of abuse coming to them, this has only been what 4 or 5 days of them having to actually play somewhat defensively.
It is a lot easier to skill into a tank... you get far more games with +37 for assists, +150 for each RDV vehicle you blow out of the sky, blaster turrets give 100, +50 for the poor bum that doesn't even know he is getting wailed on by all three weapons, cru's and resupplies....... by the time a tanker is done there is very little left for anyone else on the team, and they have +200,000 SP at the end of the match vs an AV person who is lucky to get maybe 20,000 to 40,000 SP for a good match.
I've played with a very good tanker, they are doing fine.... grumpy but fine, they are still having way better games than I am.
MAG was destroyed by the freezing issue, random bullet spread, and sony telling zipper to not give full clan support. Followed closely by it was the same 9 maps from the beta, and then by the time the added more nobody cared but those that enjoyed it |

I was late getting into tanks this build, and when I did go into it, I decided to try out armor tanking, as last build I went the shield route. Tanks were a bit OP before this nerf, but I had a feeling it was coming, the same thing was done to heavies two builds ago, and it still hasn't been properly fixed.
It seems like this is the way CCP always "fixes" things. They nerf the OP item, and boost it's counterpart. Other people have referred to it as a pendulum, which is fairly accurate, except that in the last few builds, I've yet to see the pendulum swing back, or really even find a proper center.
The heavy suits were as they were originally described by CCP, they were behemoths that really could go toe to toe with just about any vehicle, but that made them OP when it came to fighting other suits. So CCP took a fair amount of hit points from heavies, and slowed their turn rates slightly. If that was all of the nerf, it would have been pretty fair, the slowed tracking speed was fine, they could still track vehicles, the kicker came when CCP also nerfed the only Heavy Anti-Personnel weapon, the HMG. Reduced damage, greatly increased heat production, and decreased effective range, these made the Heavy suit only useful as a platform to fire a forge gun from. So people started using the forge gun a lot, not just for AV, but also for AP. More people whined, more nerfing occured.
This brings us to the current build, a little bit of oomph was given back to the HMG, but by and large, it's still not as effective as carrying an Assault Rifle. The forge guns were made to be effective as an AV weapon only against LAV's, they no longer had the range to hit a dropship, they no longer had a low enough charge time to high enough damage output to hurt anything other than a militia HAV.
Tanks roamed free, stomping on everything.
Which brings us to this week.
Tanks were easy mode, roaming free, rolling through enemy teams, laughing at most AV, only really needing to fear Railgun turrets and other tanks. If the driver had the skills and knowledge to properly build and fit a tank, it was all the more frightening. We really didn't need that much skill once we were in a good tank, you needed to be an effective player to earn the mountains of SP required to get into tanks, but once you had better than a militia one, and were smart about when you called it in, it really was easy mode, and would get you SP fast enough to build the supporting skills to make a decent, stock tank into a rolling death machine with 15,000 effective hit points.
A couple days ago we had this newest adjustment, it was not nearly so overkill as what happened to the Heavies, which tells me CCP learned from its past adjustments. At first it seemed to go to far, then I played a few rounds. I had to play smarter, I had to run away and repair more often, and pay more attention to my tank build. I realized that Blaster Turrets finally are the best AP turret there is, they didn't used to be, but the combination of tracking speed advantage, plus the cut to splash damage on railguns seems to finally have brought some much needed balance.
I would say that instead of the across the board increase to AV, I'd have suggested a rewind to something a lot closer to last builds Forge guns, just treat them like the swarm launcher, and reduce splash so much that they're no longer an effective AP weapon, but CCP went another route. I think they pushed it a little too far in the AV direction, BUT, it is MUCH more balanced than it was before this hotfix.
Anyways, that's my two cents. Tankers just have to play a bit smarter now. |
