Instead of being like Battlefield 3 with a really fancy room that you wait in.
This game is marketed as an MMO, touted as being on a scale that is unprecedented, and right now, it has absolutely nothing over the vast amount of other shooters out right now that have pretty much the same mechanics. Maybe not the same skill system and fitting system, but I'm not such a big fan of that anyway in this game... not the point though.
This game needs SOMETHING to make it an MMO. Some open world. Something explorable. Some city, open land, I don't know, SOMETHING, especially a something where we can interact with others outside of the battlefield.
Can we ever expect something like this? |

I've played Eve for quite a long time.
I can assure you that, as it is right now, Eve has absolutely no explorable spaces for Dust players. It has essentially the same small room that we have in Dust with slightly different functions... |

Sorry to break this for you but open world or something explorable isn't a requirement for MMO game. It just means a online multiplayer game with massive amount of players able to interact together.

You're misisng the point that none of the MMO aspect is really in place yet. It's a beta. It's not done. We're currently testing the basic gameplay.
Whether you'll ever be able to just walk around a city or something, I have no idea. That won't be in at release for sure. Maybe you'll be able to walk around the war barge and maybe parts of the station. |

No, I implied that it isn't an MMO unless it has some function to interact with other players on a very large scale, I.E. the statement...

This is a beta that's supposed to be released later this year and no comment has been made on how it will function as an MMO instead of just Battlefield 3 with a really fancy room. |

The whole social scene outside that station quarters door is Soon TM but development of the FPS client has taken a priority at the moment which for one ... I'm quite pleased about !! |

All of that (which is called Incarna) is considered pretty much abandoned and has been for what, a year now? Over a year now? It was pretty much completely abandoned after a massive loss of player base after the captain's quarters was presented.I don't think you know what you're talking about.... And FYI, they switched back to letting players have the ship spinning hangar. No one uses the captain's quarters... |

If you read what you wrote (which I conventently quoted for you), you said a lot about an open explorable space and then at the very end mentioned something about interaction. Maybe that's not what you meant, but that's what your post said.

If that's what you're looking for, you may be in for a long wait. You're thinking too much in the traditional WoW-esque idea of an MMO. EVE still doesn't have anything yet like that and it's been in development for 10 years. We still can't walk around a station and explore or socialize. We're confied to our quarters just like in DUST. EVE has chat channels and mail, both of which DUST already has.
If you're looking for ways to interact with lots of players through the market, politics, and warfare, that will almost certainly be in by release, probably by open beta later this year. Corps are coming by the end of this month. |

If you have trouble reading, that's your problem. What I said is very clear in that we need something where we can interact outside the battlefield, implied on a very large scale, in order to make this an MMO and no comment has been made on what this will involve. I know what Eve has and is, I've been playing it for a VERY long time, but it does have it's own way of delivering exactly what is required for a game to be an MMO, where there is a universe of players that can freely interact socially on a large scale, which Dust doesn't really have and the comment on how it will be an MMO has not been made yet.
You can speculate all you want also. I asked a very clear question that has not been answered. Currently, we just have an FPS with a very nice room. What is going to make this game an MMO? |

They want to get Core Gameplay out of the way first and somewhere down the line both Dust Mercenaries and Eve Capsuleers will be able to interact with one another with Walking In Stations - a project that was put on hold after the Jita Riots because it was all CCP was working on when we had a lot of pressing issues/bugs/glitches in Eve Online. |

What you seem to be looking for: maybe never, maybe at some point after release. Probably not soon. The ability to walk around a station will probably happen the same time as it does in EVE. They mentioned being able to walk around parts of the warbarge, so that may in by release. Walking around a city, if it ever happens, is probably years off.
A way to interact with other players: some already there, more coming soon.
You say you've played EVE, but then you complain about ways of socializing and interacting when DUST already has almost all the same methods of communication in place as EVE. I already said corps are coming at the end of the month.
Have you read the dev blogs and watched the videos? I have, and my speculation is an educated guess based on that information, IRC chat with devs, and playing EVE for five years.
I'm not sure what you're expecting except that sentence where you talk about exploring a city or open land and you're acting like you never said that except the last few words at the end. |

Corporations are being introduced next build at the end of the month. By launch (next year) we will have the different sectors, player contracts, player run market, faction warfare, etc.

When people like you stop crying and start giving constructive criticism.
Seriously though.
The MMO aspect of this is the fact that it connects to an already established and well done world with plenty players that control the marketplace. An MMO shows a continuous game manipulated by a large number of players. This is what EVE is and this is what Dust will be when it connects to EVE. Imo Dust is like an add-on as without EVE it's just a game. I have no qualms about this because that's how it was made and such an idea was never actually made solid. |

I doubt it.
I think it'll always be a basic FPS with the added RPG elements. There may be a social area of some sort added in future and a bump in player numbers but I think a few people here are being rather unrealistic when you consider the hardware the game is being rendered on.
Good thread though...I can't see a dev answering any of your queries but it's nice to speculate. |
