this came to me after watching one of the trailer for dust and I got say Ive never noticed before dropships are pretty fast for their role. a Ship designed to transport infantry should be able to protect its personal cargo, that would mean plenty of HP and natural resistance to standard AA weapons, but as a trade off to their better protection for their crew they are a slow air vehicle. this would make sense but its the opposite in the current build and I think it should change watch the dropship closely in this video and compare them to dropships in dust now

now a transport should be able to take hits not escape from them with speed because they by necessity cant take advantage of their speed when their landing troops thatGÇÖs why I think dropships should loose some of their speed in return for a bit more hp and more explosive resistance |

Have you flown a dropship?
Do you have any idea what the acceleration is really like?
Yes we can get them up to speed eventually, but it takes a while, and the faster we go the less maneuverable we are.
These ships are wingless bricks held up by thrust. There are no quick turns made possible by wings. If you see one flying by, you can know that he'll have to thrust an equal length of time to stop, then another to come back.
There is no fast slaloms, I can dodge around buildings in CQ if I'm slow and vulnerable, but I'd have no time to avoid hitting them if I were going faster. |

I agree that they should get shield and/or armor boots since they are such a hassle to use and you can't even kamakaze into enemies with them without a great deal of timing and luck and only if they are up on something you can aim at without hitting some obstruction before making contact. They either need better damage resistance or better handling and weapons. If you have a floating hailstorm of bullets, maneuverability isn't as big an issue.
Which brings up something else.... has anyone managed to shoot a swarm missile to see if it can be cancelled out? Being able to shoot them down would level the playing field a bit between heavy vehicles and swarm launchers without having to nerf the damage too much. Maybe I should make a separate thread for that.... |

i just think they donGÇÖt fly like a transport vehicle, and being a transport vehicle they should have better control/stability, more armor and explosive damage resistance, but they shouldnGÇÖt be able to get up to speed or be so hard to maneuver

One of the biggest problems with Dropships is that the landing in that video is IMPOSSIBLE. I can fly the **** out of one but quick landings are not something a dropship can do. If you go fast into a hot zone to drop or pick up you have to take a long time to slow the ship down by tilting the nose up and applying reverse thrust. Then slowly descend down to preserve the fragile blimp you're piloting. I love the new flight physics once you're in the air, they make it possible to do some really extreme maneuvers and it's a ton of fun once you get good at them. However they make landings an incredibly slow process that leaves you vulnerable to fire from EVERYTHING!
Once the promised changes to swarms are given and they cannot chase us to the ends of the earth and always flip 180s to hit us even after we successfully dodge them dropships will be fine in the air. However this will not address how impossible it is to get near the ground without being annihilated. |

the current flight mechanics are suited to gunshipGÇÖs or fighters not to transports, they shouldnGÇÖt fly like they do in game. I just think they should have a flight mechanic suited to transporting troops, not hover around the map bombarding thing. |

What they need are air brakes, or since we are in the future thrusters pointed forward, this would allow dropships to loose forward momentum quickly and bring themselves in for a fast landing. This will allow us to keep the awesome physics we have now, and still actually transport troops! |

Quoted for truth.
From a sad dropship pilot with very little SP gain..... |

Last build they were more like what you all are asking for, but people were using them to crush mercs. |

I can see why they would do that, i mean how else can a dropship pilot get any SP?
You don't get anything, except pennies if you put in a CRU and have some gunners, besides that no SP gain what-so-ever.
So if i could get kills directly with the method you just said, i would do it in a heart beat.
Besides, what idiot stands still enough for a dropship to drop on top of him? if you did. you deserved it! |

It was actually really easy... Not to mention we had free militia dropships. |

i pretty much echo all thats been said, up and away nicely, lose three teeth trying to land in an empty football field. made of paper. my biggest peeve is however... its a DROPship... we are in DROPsuits... with INERTIAL DAMPENERS all epic boom on the stereo... yet people just spawn in and watch the scenery like im some overpriced tour guide. pilots need the option to remove all turrets then maybe some kind of forced drop or a buzzer and light on passengers screen. im seriously tapping the side of a red null cannon terminal with the nose of my ship watching six blue dots wonder what im getting at.. and for a decent bottom line dropship with half militia modules 250k per, its maddening to see fly away and explode cause i got out to hack a cru... |

Yeah, I don't get this either. People spawn on my dropship and just sit there and go for a ride. |

Corps and more people using their comms would help that, no need for a eject just find a good corp that knows how tobuse air power in the next build when corps are brought in |

I avoid the idiots in my dropship by flying with corp mates and and not equipping a CRU. I keep on corp mate as a gunner and transport the rest around. Drop them at an objective, then hover above providing fire support, then drop back down to pick them up and move to the next objective. |
