I'm sure I'll get a bunch of hate replies for this, but I have to say it's incredibly obvious that assault rifles are far too accurate.
Compare them to sniper rifles and sub machineguns. Assault rifles have about twice the range of subs, however they are more accurate than a sniper rifle. You do not need to crouch in order to keep your sights from swaying. Furthremore, the weapon fires extremely accurately while being fully auto. If you are going to give such an extreme amount of range from these weapons, I believe there should be an increased spread that goes with firing multiple rounds. |

There is a loss of accuracy, not to mention the tremendous muzzle climb. Standard assault rifles (Assault Rifle/GEK-38 Assault rifle/etc) suffer the worst, while breach rifles tend to have less of a problem which may be due more to the smaller mag size than anything else. It could also be considered to be a heavier rifle than the standard AR, owing to its larger caliber, thus also reducing muzzle climb. I haven't personally tried the burst AR's yet though I suppose I should.
You may be fighting people with high AR skills and seeing the large bonuses of that. The difference between level 1 and level 5 in assault rifle operation (I believe it's operation, the one that gives -5% to dispersion and kick per level) is tremendous.
At close range, my GEK 38 gets outmatched by just about any decent SMG due to the higher ROF. SMG's also get a skill that increase the accuracy, do they not? I get gunned down more often by SMG's at close range than just about anything else, personally. It takes luck, poor aim on their part, or good use of cover to survive at 0-30m with an SMG user. |

SMG's just aren't that good for the amount of SP needed to be put into them to make them effective. Putting that mich into the AR makes you incredibly good...
The SMG Oper. Profic. Skills trained to level 5 is almost a prerequisite to using the SMG imo |

IGÇÖm sorry after reading that it sound like you were arguing that are not accurate enough rather than too accurate. so there is a loss of accuracy and there are skills involved already then whatGÇÖs the problem? |

I'm not complaining for either side. I think AR's are fairly well balanced where they are, and I believe SMG's are as well. Admittedly, I haven't used SMG's often or specced into them at all, my only experience with them coming from using the Toxin gained with the Mercenary Pack as a sidearm. It does well in close quarters, but gets handily outmatched by an AR at any sort of range, which is how it should be.
I believe what the OP is complaining about are those 30-70m encounters where a sniper's rifle is not always effective and neither is his SMG, but someone scoping with an assault rifle can continue pushing forward while shooting (fairly) accurately and take him out. It's certainly not an unrealistic feat by any means. |

There have been several times that I will go up against someone with a regular assault rifle while I have a tactical one and I will lose even though I am very far away from him.
Why is that? It's because of this accuracy problem he is talking about.
At range, assault rifles need to have more spread. Think about the Assault rifle from the original Halo. Handy, but fired more accurate in bursts from close to medium range than long range. Even so, you could still damage a opponent well as long as they were mostly in the circle.
In DUST, this invisible spread circle doesn't seem to expand at all while firing. Instead it just stays really accurate even at long range and even if you keep the fire button held down.
Possible solutions could be to implement a better representation of the assault rifle's spread and/or add more spread for longer distances. This would also increase the efficiency of the breach assault rifle as it tends to have a tighter spread. |
