Dust 514 is constantly growing and growing. Therefore the game will eventually get harder and harder for new players and us veterans. But with a few weird, smart and tricky tricks we will be able to (maybe) outsmart the game.
feel free to post your tips here. but no offensive comments.
Devs and GMs are also welcomed! BTW can you guys support the idea of this thread being a Sticky! please? |

Here are the best tip, guide and strategy of the week! (9/17/2012)
Best tip:
GM Kiriap wrote:move, cover, shoot and work together with your squad.
Best guide (for dropships):
Telemachus AREMNi wrote:I'll add my flavor to this...
Here's what I usually like to keep in mind while I'm flying Drop Ships. -You can rapidly deploy to any area on the map, allowing for quick flank attacks onto the enemy. -You will be rapidly disposed of by enemy swarms if you stay on one area of the map for too long. -If engaged by swarms, run for the hills while keeping as low as possible, using everything for cover to prevent lock. -The lives of your gunners and the life of your wallet matters more then kills, skill points or anything else. -Fly High in the clouds, out of enemies direct line of sight or Fly Low behind buildings and cliffs. Anywhere in between will put you in the direct line of sight of enemy swarms, thus an easy target.
These are things I mainly learned from a different game, but seem to translate to Dust easily.
Best strategy:
Bucktooth Badger wrote:As mentioned above, concentrate on building up your shield & armor skills (e.g. mechanics?) first before delving into the other skills. Being alive is a much more fun way to playing the game. Stick with the militia starter fits when you first start, try each of the different builds until you feel comfortable & have chosen what you want to specialise in. Once you are happy, start spending your ISK & SP in the relevant fields. But survivability is the name of the game, you may have the most powerful gun in the universe but if someone can take you out with a sharp stick then it's a bit pointless. Stick with your team at all times. If you see someone hacking, join in you'll get the assist points. Also, don't steal a team mate's tank, especially when friendly fire is turned on. |

1) Even minor teamwork, such as squading up and sticking with them, makes you far stronger than four single soldiers, no matter how individually skillful they may be even if just because the first person being shot in the back can warn the others.
2) You don't *have* to take the direct route to the objective, sometimes the longer route is safer and can give you the element of surprise. Having a brief breather and regrouping at your main spawn with your squad and calling in some transport is never a bad thing - unless the game hangs by a thread! |

Hello. I'm a new member and I want to back up the sticking together method. I only like fighting in squads and I realized that a squad is a far more deadlier force. Even if you didn't get the kill you still got the assist. It's all about winning on the battlefield. |

You die, you lose ISK. - Don't run in open field, try running around covers. - Heavies plus Submachine gun - Upgrade the skill that relates to increasing the rate of shield and armor - Upgrade the skill that relates to increasing weapon damage - Militia gears aren't so bad if the skill is maxed out. You do not use swarm-launcher against infantry. - It's generally a bad idea to stand still against a TAR user, especially so when hes in Semi-long range. - If your team is full of feeders (players that make you think they have suicidal tendencies) take it easy and play defensive or swap to inexpensive gear. No reason to take unnecessary risks. - Teaming up with good players is good, teaming up with bad can be bad, they might reveal squads position and lure all kinds of bad **** to your location. like... squad of good players..

Being a very close range type class, can make you very powerful in certain parts of the map,but when you have only close range weapons and are out in a open area.Stick close to buildings or terrains, even the objective, always have some form of cover small or big and you will live much MUCH longer.
And sometimes when it comes to close range combat, snipers are easy pickings, learning to strafe and moving between cover will make that sniper more worried as you get closer. No fancy stuff however, they will expect you and may have a sidearm,so be the one to make the first hit and watch around for remote explosives.
Reload often if your close range,I can not stress how much ammo you can go through!!!!
Final thing for close range, scout suits may be fast, and heavy's may be strong, but for me the assault suit's is the way to go at times, offering defense and some speed to keep you moving.Better then being a dead slug,or a broken winged fairy.
And final personal advice,if your the only one on your team at a objective that seems empty, stay there for a bit and wait it out. There will always be someone who will try and be sneaky,or a group doing a sneak attack on it,just don't stick out to much and keep watch, use remote explosives if you seem outnumbered and plant them there and hide. |

Its funny, in every game I ever play I actually like giving out my tricks. I mean if you horde them all and you become the "best" how will you ever get better if no one can challenge you? Give out tips and tricks and you will get better opponents that in turn will help you learn, evolve and become an even better player than you were with your secrets safe.
On that note, I really don't like tanks because I always die to them, so if I see one I run to a supply depot and swap to my AV load-out, shoot tank and if tank retreats or dies I swap back. Tip to tankers I would blow up every supply depot you see rather than your team hack them, it will keep people from swapping to AV unless they die or suicide, |

True. Which is why more people should deploy dropuplinks and nanohives in ambush maps. Seriously for nearly all ambush maps I was in, I only died when I ran out of primary and was low on my pistol ammo. |
