hah.. wow, did not know that..
Below are my suggestions from someone familiar with FPS but new to Console FPS. I haven't overcome my dislike for the KBM setup for Dust so these tips are for the DS3. I focused mostly on vehicles, swarm launcher last patch, but have ventured into more direct infantry combat this patch and am finding I'm doing much better.
Weaponry to 5
Don't 1v1 in a scout suit unless you have the jump on someone. I live a lot longer in a Logi suit and an AR. I imagine Assault suits could be similarly good, but I wanted the extra equipment (free SP, and helpful to the team)
The AR and SMG are especially good for fighting.
Light weapon range extending skill is good (forget the exact name), as is reload and capacity.
Make up for the inaccuracy of your thumbs for aiming by strafing to move the target to your crosshair. This has helped me immensely when I'm slightly off in my aim, and clumsy on the sticks.
Sensitivity 0 is apparently the most sensitive (repeating this from someone else's post), so this may help if you are running around at 100 thinking you are getting used to the most sensitive settings like I had done. I don't have a suggested sensitivity, but will play with it.
Focus on fighting, not objectives. I know this is counter-productive for winning games, and others seem to already do this, but if you want to improve your game, focus on that game. It's hard to divide yourself between a couple things. I know when I'm running around with a Swarm Launcher and have my SMG out, I do much more poorly when I try to dual role. If you want to improve something, focus focus focus. THEN, you can switch between roles you already know, instead of being weak at one. As much as I want to win every pickup game I play, it's more important to improve your skills than get a meaningless victory. Once you get good at fighting, then you can focus on winning. It's hard to win when you are bad at shooting.
Also, learn when you need to withdraw. In the past I would suicidally storm the enemy gates and go out in a blaze of glory.. but the good players know when to withdraw, regroup and try something different.
Hope these things help.
