Jax GG wrote:Hey,
First up.......... this is the first FPS I have tried since my little brother gave me a whipping some 15 years or so ago on DOOM.
Never played one since!
Now, that may put me beyond help, I'm not sure, but we'll see.
Now, I'm looking at stats something like 12 deaths to 1 kill, which incredibly, doesn't put me at the bottom of the lists, but doesn't make me feel to good either.
I think my main problem is that I simply can not hit anything. The only time I find success at this is when I'm Sniping and I happen to have someone in my sights that is facing away from me.
I appreciate that without a video of me in action (that would just be a nightmare to watch) it's going to be hard to pinpoint my errors. But are there some general hints and tips someone can give?
Should I be knelt down (stance) to shoot, should I be running around with zoom on? Should I be using the directional twiddler (rarely play the ps3 so I don't even know the name of that thing on the pad) or should I just use left and right movement when someone is in front of me.
I understand that I am just plain bad at this, but I can't help but wonder in amazement at people that can take me down from miles off when they are using the (bah, forgotten the name) standard role (not heavy, scout or medic). They can be running towards me and I can fire a full two or three rounds off and not hit them (at least not kill them).
I'm just looking for some general advice on how to play these sorts of games............ I've never really been keen on them before, but I quite like the look of this and the fact that it links to EvE.
Are there any good sites out there that can 'coach' me along?

At first, try sticking with other Mercs and not venturing alone as this will get you into intense firefights quickly, and intense meaning you'll die a quick death.
If you're at a distance, use cover to your advantage at first. Don't try firing from the hip as it is unprecise and you'll end up wasting ammo without any hits. Use your weapon's reticle and try to shoot while leading your target. As with a real automatic weapon, fire in short bursts to maintain precision.
Now when in a close-quarters firefight, know that most common soldiers will jump/strafe a lot, so the main thing you need to practice is your predicting where they move/land and always try to lead that. Fire in short bursts again here, only going full auto when your opponent is low on health.
I'd recommend starting out with a rifle that holds a lot of ammo, which'll keep you from reloading all the time while you dance and dodge bullets.
If you started out as a Sniper, stick to this and use it to practice your aim. Get the Charge Sniper Rifle as it's one of the most effective LRSW you'll find for beginners, and keep shootin' ;)
