Jax GG wrote:Hey, More great advice.... thank you all. I think some of you need to get back on the EvE-O forums as it's missing your kind of (actually) helpful advice. That said, I'm a little better at that game than this one A quick quesiton about using a headset as this is starting to sound like the single strongest piece of advice. I have a USB headset; can I just plug that into one of the ports (assuming they are USB) that the controllers use? Also.... do you all use the PS3 controller or are you use keyboards and mice? Regards Jax
Yes, you can plug your USB headset into one of the USB ports in the front of the PS3. I typically switch between the controller and the mouse and keyboard, mouse is a bit easier to aim, but the keyboard controls can be a major pain. Also, due to a hard turn speed cap to prevent mouse users from turning faster than their dropsuit would normally allow, you have to remember to try to move you mouse at the same speed as the cap, any slower and you turn slower, any faster and you fail to turn faster AND cover more space on your desk, requiring you to pick up the mouse and move it back. The dualshock controller is good for playing in a relaxed position, for example, on the couch in front of your tv, or reclining in a chair. |

First good job for asking for advice buddy, most players have their egos so large they fail to ask good questions and usually end up just quitting the game.
I highly suggest a mic in this game, team work is a must to get better and it also makes the game more fun to chat with your fellow dust bunnies.
Also as a suggestion, may I give you my build for AR players, it may help.
2 shield extenders, you already have shield regen so I don't personally use more regen of shields but I like to have a lot of shields when I play. In the other slots depending on your CPU/PG you can use a militia armor repair. As armor itself does not repair itself like shields do.
+1 to all the players suggesting to get weaponry up to lvl 5, great suggestion.
Stick to cover, don't be in the open. If you are in the open, you are open to multiple directions of fire coming at you, but if you stay near cover you can take cover when you get fired upon and that gives you time to figure out what direction the fire is coming and also to save your armor/shields for the fire fight.
Move with players, find a few guys stay near them but not in front of them.
Good advice, if you see two players going at each other in a 1vs1 duel, don't be that guy and still a players kill to pad your stats.
If nothing else, please add me to your in game contacts send me a group invite, Ill be glad to chat and play a few rounds and observe your fighting style so I may offer tips.
Stay strong fellow dust bunny, we all were in your shoes at one time, but we stay calm and chived on to get better.

I liked your post, except for this bit. I've seen players with no armor left get lucky and knock out players with most of their armor intact. Sure, kill stealing is lame, but you never really know who is going to come out on top, and standing there doing nothing while the enemy kills your team mates is even worse. Other than that, good advice! |

Tyas Borg wrote:If your still struggling Jax and your on the EU servers at night or a US player, then hit me up a message in game when you get your headset sorted. I'd be happy to coach you through the basics ;)
I play in the EU myself, but my times are totally anit-social :P Thank you both. I'll see if i can get the headset working this evening. Only problem is that the PS is on the other side of the room to the sofa...... Also... an update to all of you that have offered great advice. You took the time to help me so, I'll take the time to provide updates..... not that I imagine that make good reading. I've managed to get through two full rounds of battles today and have reduced my death count to around 4/5 per game and have now managed to get an average of 2 kills per game along with a few assists...... so I am really pleased with that and that I can report that the advice and tips are really working. I've switched guns to one that holds around 60 rounds (Burst I think) and have removed the reacharger from my suit and put another shield in there, though I got the impression I was supposed to be removing something else to use another shield...... not sure though. I am moving around a lot more and diving for cover as soon as I take hits rather than trying to find what was shooting me. I'm like a lemming at the moment.... blindly following the closest person to me and just praying that they know more than I do........ and of course.... trying not to shoot them in the back....... which isn't easy sometimes. Anyhows..... thank you all and if there are any more advices.... please keep them coming and I'll post some more random Newb questions soon, I'm sure! Good hunting! Regards Jax
You don't have to worry too much about shooting your team mates in the back (except for the waste of ammo) because friendly fire isn't on...... yet. Don't make it a habit though, as friendly fire will be turned on in the future.

Jaxx 66 wrote:Two questions:
1. Is there a way to swap a character without quitting the game? 2. How do I create the best Assault character from the game menu?
Cheers
1. Unfortunately, no. 2. Not sure what you mean, best skills? Best dropsuit fitting? Or do you mean the character creation menu where you pick your race and role? If your talking about character creation, race is irrelevant, but once you pick your race, there should be 3 options, one for heavy, one for scouts, and one for assault, I don't remember the names of the options, just read the descriptions and you should be able to figure it out. |
