What do you want? A blue tag on every thread?
"Yes, we have read this and it has been discussed in the office!"
If, hypothetically, that were to happen, would anyone actually be happy with it? Or would we quickly start to see people posting "CCP is giving a canned, copy and paste response to EVERY THREAD! They didn't write a 500+ word response to my thread!"
(This is a trick question, actually. The above has literally happened on the EVE Online forums MULTIPLE TIMES. CCP responds too little, everyone is angry. CCP responds too much, everyone is still angry. because customers)
What about the threads that are just absolutely awful? Should the devs go out of their way to respond to them?
"FEEDBACK: Make the assault rifle one hit kill, remove all vehicles, other weapons, and all dropsuits other than the scout dropsuit" CCP InsertNameHere: "Thank you for your feedback, we loved reading your thread and will definitely discuss the prospect of pissing off 95% of our players over lunch!"
"FEEDBACK: Unreal engine sucks! Instead of accepting it and moving on I recommend/demand that CCP CHANGE TO (Insert engine here)! I am clueless and do not even have a layman's understanding of game development, but that is not relevant!" CCP InsertNameHere: "While our team originally chose UE3 because it was cheap and easy to work with, we understand your concerns. I will discuss with the project lead the prospect of throwing away all of our current code, budgeting to license a new engine, and readying the team to dump thousands of man-hours of work to port DUST to it!"
"BUG: I didn't read the known issues section of the patch notes but (insert bug from known issues section of the patch notes)" CCP InsertNameHere: "Thank you for posting the 23rd thread on this bug, I walked down the office to the to the conference room and tried to tell them about it but it seems they have wired a car battery to the door knob. I printed out your post and slipped it under the door though!"
There are many, many more people posting threads on the forums than there are devs to read them. The ones who do read them really, REALLY do go out of their way to read every thread they can and forward the interesting ones to the relevant people in the team. But they just can't reply to every thread, or even most of the threads. |
