RIP Vile-Rat never had the chance to bump into you in game and would have liked to have meet you. Then again you made some very big decisions that interfered with me early in my eve career, including leading to the event that ruined my spying career indirectly. Well Vile-Rat fly safe wherever you are.

In Tribute eve online players have begun renaming their starbases today. http://evemaps.dotlan.net/live/Outpost/Rename you can scroll down the changes and see how many bases names are paying their respects from today alone. You can continue to scroll down and see that already hundreds of star bases have been renamed and this stands as a testament to Vile-rat's contribution to eve online diplomacy.
Why is it always the best of our community?
In reflection of the threads today it seems Vile-Rat has done one more thing for us before departing. I am seeing more of the non-eve players here starting to feel that there is more of a community that can be felt in dust 514 than previously before. I wished it didn't take such a tragedey to do so but if Dust 514 and Eve Online begins forming more into a New Eden community becuase of it I am certainly going to blame Vile-Rat for it. |

This is beyond sad. I enjoy watching the politics of EVE and remember Vile Rat and the various banter on the Eve-O forums and whatnot. From what I hear he's had a huge impact on many things in Eve over the years, and he will be missed.
I don't want to get too political here, but I was really insulted by the State Department's "scolding" and that these savages would become so violent for no sane reason. |

They are religious fanatics and bigots. Reason and rationality is a foreign concept to them. It's like calling a South African **** gang homos, they'll **** you to prove you wrong. (I've been told)
This is beyond sad, not just because of the loss of Vile Rat, but because they show just how far beyond reason this conflict is becoming. |

I was just logging on to actually post this up. Yeah the man in question was a United States official stationed in Libya, but also one of the longest and most influencial EVE players the Eden universe knew.
Here is my link -- US Official Killed in Libya -- My article is from Kotaku. So everyone is getting the word by now. Not sure how to feel about the guy though. Being killed is always something to be sad over, but I just found it funny that a "United States" official not only played EVE, but was also a shady influential character in EVE whom had strong ties to GOONSWARM. I'm just... Saiyan. No, but seriously I find that speaks volumes. |

Thanks for posting this Iron Wolf, i was just going to this myself. I knew Vile quite well and spoke to him a lot over the last few months and i was on jabber on him when this started to go down last night.
I went to bed after awhile because he didn't come back as quick as he normally does and even as a goon myself i thought it was a troll to start with. |

Not coming from EVE, I'm not ashamed to admit that I have never heard of Vile Rat. However after reading this, I was compelled to do a little research.
From what I have resarched, Vile Rate was a VIP within New Eden. A person whom did so much for the Community, and got so much respect in return. So although I never knew of him, he has my respect for his contribution
So although I never had the pleasure to speak to him, my deepest condolences go out to his Family and Friends.

I think whats most scary to me personally about this story is that before i was born, my grandfather worked as the British ambassador in Lydia. my dad, uncles and aunt lived at the embassy with him. had a similar film have happened in that time from a british film maker, maybe a light comedy and those people acted the way they did in the tragedy, I might never had been born!
Killing people just for being offended that someone of the same nationality, completely otherwise unrelated to the victim making a film about their religion. on that logic the US should just nuke the country for killing americans. luckilly the world doesnt work that way or the planet would be an irradiated wasteland but still.....

The cartoon riots took 3-4 months from their publication, till things blew up. Interestingly enough at a time where a lot of citizens were very unhappy with their governments...
This one happened yesterday for a very obvious reason I think.

I can actually say this is very true. My family has been in the business of funeral directing, and morticianing for over fifty years. Infact I'm poised to be third generation in my family. For a decent funeral it can easily cost you ten thousand with a quarter to half of that just in a decent casket. Also I do not reccomend anyone try purchasing your caskest from china, or places like Cosco., and/or Sam Club. Anyway I won't get into details. Surfice to say it is very costly. Even a cremation can be a prenny. I've seen Urns that are more expensive then some caskets. Anyway.. Ah! I hate that about myself. I just seem to ramble on always. |

Yeah, we got a jabber Ping about it earlier, there's a a bunch of new EVE characters such as Vile Rat Foundation with people trying to scam money over it, I know we goons have a history of scamming, but when we condemn a scam it really should drive home just how bad a scam it is.
There is an email address set up via SA and Vile Rats wife for donations but i don't want to post that as people may get the wrong idea with it just being a email address. When something is set up on YouCaring.com i'll post it. |

You should really blame the average attention span then. What is it now? Less then eight seconds? Point is though unfortunetly in an age of information such as this with life moving at an ever fevered pace it is easy for the average persons to lose attention on any given subject. This is not an excuse. Just a reason behind the worry. |

That Dotlan list brought a tear to my eye. For those that don't know, each of those changes was made to a null-sec outpost, which are built and maintained by players. You can go dozens of jumps in null-sec without seeing one of those, which should give you an idea of how many of them there actually are, and by extension the fact that nearly all of them are represented on that list. |

I didn't know who he was but my condolences go out to his children and family. It's always sad when kids have to grow up fatherless. R.I.P. , all of you. |

I wish I did believe there was a smiting god, just so at times like these I would at least have the comfort of knowing these self-entitled and empowered sociopaths would be wiped off the planet for good. The capacity of some people for true evil, whatever their invented excuse, is truly the most frightening thing in the world for me. |

Very sad story. Heart goes out to families and friends.
GNN has named the day "The day of the Rat" on its calendar, and reported the event on its front page:

For those of you who dont understand this is our star map with a filter applied to show all the capital ship jumps within the last hour or 24 hours. The more the activity in one spot the larger the spot gets. To put things in perspective the second largest dot I have ever seen was only a quater of this size for 900 ships killed in one hour. |

I just read Vile Rat was an Air Force Vet I wished I could have shook his hand and thank him for his service.

I saw that shortly after it was first posted.
VRs in-game actions literally shaped the political dynamics of universe that EVE players live in, and the universe that DUST players are about to become a full part of.
Out of game I salute his service to my country that he was very much a credit to

Heh, put everyone blue to each other, and then activate team damage...

Found a use for my third character slot just for a short while before I go back to my regular character of Minmatar Slave 74136.
As I said, much respect to everything he had done, both in-game and in service to his country.
Somewhere I had read that, as the Information Management Officer, part of his duty would have been to render unusable, or destroy, sensitive communcations, computer equipment, and records so that they would not be captured and compromised, and that is why he was still in the consulate and not evacced with the rest of the staff.
