Anyone for a round where the only thing blowing up is the MCC's? Red and Blues just standing there, remembering? (perhaps racing LAV's around the map without shooting) |

Not coming from EVE, I'm not ashamed to admit that I have never heard of Vile Rat. However after reading this, I was compelled to do a little research.
From what I have resarched, Vile Rate was a VIP within New Eden. A person whom did so much for the Community, and got so much respect in return. So although I never knew of him, he has my respect for his contribution
So although I never had the pleasure to speak to him, my deepest condolences go out to his Family and Friends.
R.I.P Vile Rat

The reception thus far has been mind boggling. It makes me feel privileged to be part of the New Eden Community. As even though we flame, troll and hate eachother... We will ultimately band together when it really counts! |

I remember hearing about Vile Rat when I was starting to play Eve. Didn't know or game with him personally, but my condolences.

I think whats most scary to me personally about this story is that before i was born, my grandfather worked as the British ambassador in Lydia. my dad, uncles and aunt lived at the embassy with him. had a similar film have happened in that time from a british film maker, maybe a light comedy and those people acted the way they did in the tragedy, I might never had been born!
Killing people just for being offended that someone of the same nationality, completely otherwise unrelated to the victim making a film about their religion. on that logic the US should just nuke the country for killing americans. luckilly the world doesnt work that way or the planet would be an irradiated wasteland but still.....
somebody get me off this planet... |

I don't think a film or cartoon back then would have ignited the entire middle east like this.
One, they weren't THIS crazy back then. Two, they didn't have the easy communication we do now. |

The cartoon riots took 3-4 months from their publication, till things blew up. Interestingly enough at a time where a lot of citizens were very unhappy with their governments...
This one happened yesterday for a very obvious reason I think.

A think a memorial or something being renamed would be worth a lot more than a plex drive, at the end of the day money only lasts so long. |

Aye, that's a fair point but i'd assume those costs are covered by the US government based on his job?..
We currently have a temp fundraiser set up on SA but once something more official is in place i'll post it on here if anyone wants to donate to his family, i know it will make it way over to the EVE-O forums too. |

I can actually say this is very true. My family has been in the business of funeral directing, and morticianing for over fifty years. Infact I'm poised to be third generation in my family. For a decent funeral it can easily cost you ten thousand with a quarter to half of that just in a decent casket. Also I do not reccomend anyone try purchasing your caskest from china, or places like Cosco., and/or Sam Club. Anyway I won't get into details. Surfice to say it is very costly. Even a cremation can be a prenny. I've seen Urns that are more expensive then some caskets. Anyway.. Ah! I hate that about myself. I just seem to ramble on always. |

I hope they cover it. Also, yes please let us know if something gets setup. Some of us would like to donate I'm sure. I'm planning on it myself. |

Yeah, we got a jabber Ping about it earlier, there's a a bunch of new EVE characters such as Vile Rat Foundation with people trying to scam money over it, I know we goons have a history of scamming, but when we condemn a scam it really should drive home just how bad a scam it is.
There is an email address set up via SA and Vile Rats wife for donations but i don't want to post that as people may get the wrong idea with it just being a email address. When something is set up on YouCaring.com i'll post it. |

You should really blame the average attention span then. What is it now? Less then eight seconds? Point is though unfortunetly in an age of information such as this with life moving at an ever fevered pace it is easy for the average persons to lose attention on any given subject. This is not an excuse. Just a reason behind the worry. |

Sad, just sad. It's things like this that flash you back to reality. Never new the man, or his achievements in Eve Online. That being said it still shook me a bit. It's good to see so many people coming out to say something in his memory, and I hope the best for his wife and two children. RIP Vile Rat, it was a shame to never of met you. |
