I hope Orbital strikes wont belong only to Titans and other very powerful ships. Will say like a drake be able to do this as well? |

Orbital Strikes would be launched from Destroyers actually (what their new "role" is going to end up being according to Eve Devblogs) |

From what I gathered when they were discussing ship changes, yes. Lemme go look and see if I can find a link to it.
*edit* found it dev blog link Says they would recieve a bonus, so no, they wouldn't be the only ones, but they would be the one you wanted to use for best effect. |

They picked destroyers because the focus on launch is faction war, which is mostly small gang low barrier to entry stuff. The bigger ships are supposed to come later. |

All ships will be able to fire an orbital bombardment as long as they are fitted with the correct module. Destroyers will get a bonus to orbital strikes. |

If you read the EVE book templar one, or read some of the recent chronicles, you would know that dreadnaughts like to jump/warp into upper orbit and enter what is called "the gauntlet" before firing down on the planet below. A rev class dreadnaught's lasers would leave a sort of ravine of direct scorched earth damage with a large heat wave following for several hundreds of meters further if I remember right. The projectile force of dreadnaughts is so large, apparently it parts the clouds in a circular ripple from the sheer force of the projectile. Ya......... dreadnaught fires, and you are left saying "What capture point?"
hahaha sadly such a scale would be REALISTIC, but we can't have that. We need balance. So dreadnaughts will probably only be able to do things like lock on to the MCC and shoot at it while smaller ships can to strategic ground strikes. Although when in comparison to the damage available to a ground based force (our capture point missile batteries and stuff) you would think a dreadnaught would do tons more damage..... but it will probably all be balanced out. Even titans will probably not even take out half the MCU's shields. It's going to be VERY VERY hard for them to balance orbital strikes without making it look like dreadnaughts to only slightly more damage than a destroyer, OR anything below a dreadnaught does so little damage that we reach the point of super blobs in Dust. Restricting destroyers and other small ships to orbital strikes would be able to scale the damage a lot better, and could be realistic, but we are still left with the question of "Why not dreads or titans?" at that point. |

Could be something like wp needed for destroyer is smaller, or destroyer won't miss target and hit own team as much. |

lol I'm sorry but projectiles going far past the speed of sound are not going to be FoF . If you're in their way, you should get fudged up big time regardless of your side. |

Well, Titans won't really be able to do orbital strikes.
They're the size of small moons. Just entering orbit can irreparably **** up a planet. It's one of the fluff reasons they aren't allowed in hi-sec.
Back just before the wormhole thing (I think?) kicked off there was a bit in the fluff where a titan's doomsday gun hit a planet.
Basically everyone on the planet died. |

Strikes are called in using coordinates provided by soldiers on the ground, currently squad leaders. The coordinates are fed into the ship's targeting system which handles the aiming.
Pretty hard to mess that process up. Well, unless your SC is a jerk and calls a strike in on friendlies. |
