An lengthy, unbiased, non-QQ perspective for tankers:
Listen, i personally don't discredit tank drivers for their choice of weapon. They chose to skill into them and i didn't, fair enough.Sure they are annoying and they cost me a ton of ISK in lost fittings when i get repeatedly steamrolled by them, but I'm also happy to see one on my team. I also recognize that things will become more balanced as we near release so i currently just avoid tanks or coordinate swarm attacks with a couple friends and keep the tanks on the run.
However, i agree miahus does have a valid point. Just yesterday i was in a game on the same team as an STB fella who's name isn't important. (Sorry STB, i really don't have anything against you guys like everyone else on here, and I've had good times with you guys in MAG on many occasions, it just happened to be one of your tankers this time around). An enemy had called in a dropship and was apparently killed before he got into it. I assume it was a sniper that took him out because there was literally nobody near this dropship. I stumbled upon the free dropship-on-a-silver-platter and began hacking it, you know, to use it to help my team. I'm halfway through hacking it and BOOM, it explodes. I look around like "WTF happened?" and to my surprise an STB tanker had rolled up behind me, saw me hacking it and decided to take the dropship out with his Railgun anyway. To deliberately hinder your team like that for a few extra points is just incredibly selfish to me. I get that you need the ISK and SP and in your tank you are a one man army, but in the end this is a team game. In my experience, STB guys are generally decent people and just get hated on here for being good players. In MAG they highly valued teamwork and it totally blew my mind that one of them would do something that selfish to directly inhibit the team as a whole. This shows me that it's the current nature of the game that is causing this selfishness in typically unselfish people and hopefully the coming balancing will correct that.
Blowing up supply depots is a little different because i get that it's a danger to tankers. While there are situations where i would understand them being tactically taken out and i've even done it myself, it should still be a last resort as they are vital to your ground troops. Enemy vehicles abandoned in an empty area of the map that your teammates are currently hacking present no immediate threat to tankers at all. If i get killed hacking it and an enemy jumps in, sure it's a danger to you, but how about just covering me with your kill machine and not letting that happen instead of just blowing the thing up on me? I've even seen abandoned enemy LAVs get blown up... while a teammate is hacking it. I understand they are worth more dead than alive to you, and even i blow them up in certain situations, but not while a teammate is hacking it.
If an enemy spawned a high end tank and as a tanker on foot you killed him and began hacking the tank you'd be happier than a pig in $#@!. Now, what if and i came along in a tank and destroyed it while you were trying to hack it? What would you honestly think of that?
If, say, tanks had nerfs implemented that limited it's ammo and you had to resupply it somewhere and i came along and destroyed that resupply, would you be cool with that?
In the end, yes, nobody is paying for your AUR or playing the game for you and you need not listen to any criticism, but have you ever considered that you are just 1/16th of a team? You have 15 other people on your team. Chances are very high that without those other 15 guys distracting enemies, they'd all pull out AV fits and your expensive tank would be a scrap heap in no time. Tankers don't realize how much ground troops actually do to keep them alive. Yet, one single selfish decision you make with your OHK mobile causes all of your teammates to lose SP, ISK and AUR items in the long run. Some of your teammates running proto gear will actually lose just as much as the worth of your tank. So, while it is your prerogative to be selfish to protect your own investment and you can play the game any way you choose, please keep in mind how detrimental your decisions can be to your entire team. This isn't important now, but when private corp support comes into play those selfish decisions that hinder a team will effectively weaken your entire corp. How about practicing good team play right now and letting your ground troops have just as much fun and success as you're having?
Additionally what happens when someone gets irritated enough by the lack of team play from specific players that they make it their mission to any time they see you on their team, find you from the start, try to hop in your tank before you do, use it as a team weapon the whole game and at the end of the match drive that big pile of money deep into the unsafe zone?
Not that i'm saying anyone should do that.
.That's all i have to say about that. |
