Part of it is just experience. Tweaking sensitivities for the controllers, paying attention to your radar, listening for friendly chatter. And while it may not get you the -most- kills in the match, experiment with dropsuit fittings.
Buy one of every militia dropsuit and vehicle mod so you've got the option to do more without shelling out thousands of ISK for one tiny dropsuit. Keeps you ISK efficient, and it doesn't hurt so much when you get killed 10-30 times in Skirmish mode.
The fitting aspect of DUST is designed to make this -your- game, by allowing you to do what you do best. And naturally, the best way to figure out what you're best at is experimentation. Teamwork is also a plus. Find the nearest group of friendlies on the overhead and give them some fire-support. |

This is all craptalk here above
What u have to do to become good is this.
1.Stop working.(it only costs u energy wich u could spend in game) 2.Play atleast 12 hours a day(12 is minimal 18 is recommended) 3.Get rid of your girlfreind because she will only holds u off to archieve what u want to archieve. 4.Stay away from alcohol. 5.Put cucumbers onto your eyes when u go to sleep. (Its for your brains to relax and get the heat of your eyes). 6.Have a good breakfast(if u want to become good u should start eating to get some energy). 7.Stop jerking off.u will inbalance your hands with that.

Be sure you know what kind of dropsuit you're most comfortable with before you drop the 300+ thousand ISK on a new skill and Sp to boot. Militia gear, with the exception of vehicles, will never run out so you can use them on everything. Some examples of my builds-
Note- All militia gear Scout- Shotgun/SMG Fit whatever else is available that isn't armor plates. Scout- Sniper/SMG
Heavy- Swarm/SMG
Logi- SMG equip: nanite injector/Repair tool. Alternatively, lose the nanites and pop in a Nano-Hive
Assault- Shotgun/SMG Assault- Sniper/SMG
Part of the experience is figuring out where your ideal range is. When you have that figured out, it's figuring out what you die -less- in while you're getting to that range. Me personally, I've taken a liking to my Heavy Swarm/SMG because I get hit a lot and typically die before I can reach my ideal range. However, the Heavy has a lot of HP and has the ability to be a -massive- nuisance to LAV/Dropship pilots with the swarm launcher. Infantry generally dump at least a whole magazine just into trying to drop you and by then you can just whip out the SMG and unload in their faces.
Edit to add- Also- before you jump the gun on dropping SP on certain trees, make SURE you look at the ideal suit and what the high/low slots look like and whether it has more Shields or Armor. Mechanics/Engineering are bloody important because they can mean the difference between life and death in the long run.
Try out the Militia vehicles too. Some people aren't meant to be ground-pounders and are more comfortable in LAV's, HAV's, or Dropships. (Note: Just because the tank is fairly easy to drive, don't just jump in. Beginner tank habits can get crazy expensive.) I myself am a support-fire tanker and a dropship pilot. |

Yup this is true. i always played with full automatic assault rifles. But last week i tried a tactical assault rifle and i must say im impressed by it.It will get u kills much easyer then just spraying around.it makes u play with a different tactic because u cant spray. For me it meant less deaths and more kills. |

The Tac-rifle is a personal favorite of mine as well. I'm still working out a build that won't cost me more than I earn every game. When I've got the jump, the Tactical rifle is amazing. If I don't, the SMG's full-auto spray, even the militia variant, is bloody devastating. |

Honestly situational awareness is the most important thing if you ask me. I'm not even that great of a shooter, but I hit the top of the scoreboard because I usually catch people off guard. Lol was just going to ask if they are the new remote explosive. I died I think twice to remote explosives last build so it was no biggy.
I'm noticing a great trend in nerf everything in this game. I fear this game will fail now. The concept of managing money to equip high money suits and then a person dies quickly. Whatever that person died from will automatically be called op and then cue flood of forum threads or posts bitching about that certain weapon.
I fear we have another swat 4 ruined by the community there to make it 'better'. Let's make all weapons do the same damage. Let's make all grenades the same. Let's make all suits the same health(oops too late).
I think I'm going to go cry for a bit. I have been following this game since I heard of its concept. The gaming community is not ready for a mmofps. Mark my words. If ccp does not show the community that they are here to supply stats and that's it. If we continue down this current path of nerf nerf pay2win nerf nerf and ccp continues to listen. This game is screwed. |

You should not take that guys advice. It is not sound and complete. It should be stop wanking BEFORE gaming. I mean everyone knows the rule states nothing about AFTER. |

Cheap suits, complex extenders, weapon specialization skills. Repeat.
Work on your fitting with a plan. Be ready to change the plan. Own a weapon system. Train it as far as you can, know it inside and out. Know what fights you can win, and what fights you should avoid. While learning, run cheap. If you have to lose 10 fit suits in a match while you are learning your "gun game" as they call it, do it in cheap suits.
Once you can start holding your own and surviving more, then start breaking out the more expensive gear. |

(Note: Just because the tank is fairly easy to drive, don't just jump in. Beginner tank habits can get crazy expensive.) I myself am a support-fire tanker and a dropship pilot.
Not at all. Skill into whatever you want to skill into, if you're going to do good, you'll be doing almost just as good being militia. Proto is only a very slight boost. (unless you're referring to the OPness of logi suits)
Just get used to aiming, when you can do max sensitivity, you'll get best results. Don't run into the middle of roads. Roads = bad. They don't do anything except get you killed. Stay near teammates. if your team isn't in a blob, choose a group of teammates that are together, and stick around one of them. Choosing a favourite is great. If they break up, follow your favourite. Get as much weapon damage increases as you can. The small numbers might not look like a lot, but it also increases your damage at a range, which gives you a huge edge on everybody that skilled into better guns instead of damage mods and skills. Range is currently the most useful thing you can have, as enemies can't actually hit you with your type of weapon when you increase your range.
Also, if you're referring to top of the leaderboard people, buy a tank. Nobody will like you, but you will hit the top of the leaderboard quickly. And I might feel the need to stand in front of your cannons when you're trying to shoot, if I'm on your side.
Remember, stat reset soon, so try everything you can as quickly as you can. |

Whilst a tad overly dramatic, I really fear this is the case.
The game is still massively in it's infancy. To call out things as totally broken and rage at them now is kinda futile. For all we know there's a module/skill/weapon or such on the way that is purely designed to combat said problem.
We don't have all the pieces to the puzzle. It's like doing a jigsaw with no picture to base your work on. It could be a load of baked beans, could be pebbles or it could be a skin head convention. The fact is you just don't know until all the pieces come together.
I just hope CCP doesn't cave in to whines and actually bases their decisions on in game stats, metrics and data collected from this beta. As it stands there's a lot of people crying about dying when it's their own stupidity and this will inevitably hurt the gameplay of dust in the long run.

Use cover, thats why its there.
When not in cover, run, dont walk, to it.
Close to mid-range firefights, use hip fire, not scopes.
Even when in fight, always watch the mini-map in top left out of corner of eye.
Watching the mini-map will let you know where your next victim will be coming from, also if in fight, where you need to move.
Be aware of your ammo clip, after each fight, if time, reload (square).
All of these above apply to AR, SMG basically. Other hints below:
If you're a sniper, sight, pull trigger, be prepared to be hunted.
If you're a tank driver, noone cares.
If you're AV, infantry love you if you're good, if not, get good you will be valuable.
If you're dropship pilot, give me a ride, try not to get blown up.
If you're LAV, I'll kill you with an AV grenade and up my score. LAVs are used to get to victims faster, thats all. |

Im afraid your questions are futile, most of the players that have replied are not very good and the ones that are are good in a different sphere of game play and have an agenda to represent.
The advice i can give you, learn to shoot, it should only take you a few seconds to down another soldier, tactical awareness is your friend, listen to him and look for his advice (the mini map) fit your suits for HP buffer not DMG output, most players can't shoot but they get a few hits in, HP buffer will help you survive this and beat them if you learn to shoot, Learn to skirmish, the best players get 30/0 because when they know they are gunna die they back off and recharge their shields then go back on the offensive.
*edit: alright on a re reading some of them seem to give good advice* |

Just level up. That is all there is to this game. Don't get discouraged by getting destroyed in half a second by the guy with a GEK or a Duvolle. We have all been there. Just give the game a chance please. Soon you will have one too.
They aren't killing you so fast because they are better players. They have just leveled up more.
Note: Some people are just that good and can jump in the Militia starter fit and go to work, but those guys are a rare breed.
The more you play, you will be able to tell who is new and who isn't. He may be using a Militia Assault Rifle, but that doesn't mean he isn't decked out in Proto modules. Or doesn't have LvL 4/5 assault operation/proficiency, Mechanics, Shields/Armor. You get the point.
I guess what I am trying to say is that this game isn't hard to do well at. It just takes time to get there. And while you are getting there you will find your shot.
Edit: Pretty sure I posted this in the wrong thread. Whatever. |

I don't know if I'd say I'm a 'really' good player, but I do usually get top kills and cap a lot of objectives, res and repair allies, etc etc.
A lot of it is sticking near your buddies, and being on comms when you can. I use shotgun scouts (since the second build) because I'm better at the positional game than most, which plays right into both shotguns and scouts, so it's a natural fit for me. Just find a playstyle that you enjoy, and stick with it. Oh, and never run straight at someone, always come in at an angle, or fall back if you can. If you rely more on shields, be very conscious of when they are about to deplete. Use cover.

Find a weapon you enjoy using (sniper, assault, mass driver, shotgun, etc.) and attempt to stick with it and get good with it. Honestly tho the build is almost over, skill up and spread your sp thin if you would like to really dig into different play styles and just have fun. Then after you find what you like skill into it next build, and work to really get good with it then. |
