Considering that there are messages on the War Barge about not committing suicide in public areas then apparently killing oneself ain't no thang for Dust mercs.
Suicide bombing is of course a tool of asymmetric warfare, which is a war where one side is overwhelmingly more powerful than the other, which generally speaking shouldn't be happening on Dust. Still, it would make sense both in-universe and in a metagaming sense for an entire squad to don bomb jackets and dogpile a super-expensive tank, demolishing it for the price of a few dropsuits and explosives. That's just one example. Heck, suicide bombing one's own squad sounds like the kind of trolling one might expect in the Eve universe.
Of course, I don't really expect suicide bombing to be added since the tactic carries too much of a connotation with terrorism and the Sept 11 attacks (though I believe it's actually the non-Islamic and not religiously based Tamil Tigers who have used it the most), but logically speaking, it sounds like the kind of thing an immortal clone would immediately think of. I also know that it would completely change the dynamic of the game from shooter to something completely different (bomber?).
Also, if realism is the concern then in real life the majority of battlefield casualties from conventional warfare comes from artillery, which means that most of the time Dust mercs should be walking two steps and immediately getting killed by an incoming artillery round. Through no fault of their own, by the way, which isn't fun. But it's something to think about.
My only thought is, if suicide bombing were made a legitimate thing in Dust, you shouldn't be able to come back from it. If i knew i had as many clones/lives as i wish, well, my Dust character would strap on his Prototype Bomb Vest upon every spawn-in. Just sayin. I'm a team player. |
