If you think about it, there really should be a way to do suicide bombing in Dust 514. If Viet Cong soldiers were willing to be suicide bombers in real life then how much more likely would be an army of immortal clones? Considering that there are messages on the War Barge about not committing suicide in public areas then apparently killing oneself ain't no thang for Dust mercs.
Suicide bombing is of course a tool of asymmetric warfare, which is a war where one side is overwhelmingly more powerful than the other, which generally speaking shouldn't be happening on Dust. Still, it would make sense both in-universe and in a metagaming sense for an entire squad to don bomb jackets and dogpile a super-expensive tank, demolishing it for the price of a few dropsuits and explosives. That's just one example. Heck, suicide bombing one's own squad sounds like the kind of trolling one might expect in the Eve universe.
Of course, I don't really expect suicide bombing to be added since the tactic carries too much of a connotation with terrorism and the Sept 11 attacks (though I believe it's actually the non-Islamic and not religiously based Tamil Tigers who have used it the most), but logically speaking, it sounds like the kind of thing an immortal clone would immediately think of. I also know that it would completely change the dynamic of the game from shooter to something completely different (bomber?).
Also, if realism is the concern then in real life the majority of battlefield casualties from conventional warfare comes from artillery, which means that most of the time Dust mercs should be walking two steps and immediately getting killed by an incoming artillery round. Through no fault of their own, by the way, which isn't fun. But it's something to think about. |

It's a game. Who cares with the VC or Hamas or anyone else does. Suicide bombing isn't very fun or particularly skill-demanding. Suicide bombing is on par with running people over with a LAV. I don't think that's the kind of gameplay that should be encouraged. |

My only thought is, if suicide bombing were made a legitimate thing in Dust, you shouldn't be able to come back from it. If i knew i had as many clones/lives as i wish, well, my Dust character would strap on his Prototype Bomb Vest upon every spawn-in. Just sayin. I'm a team player. |

If we did things like they historically happened, things would be very different in some of the other FPS' that are out there, and if you employed some present day tactics with historical roots in this futuristic setting, I'm sure something like suicide bombers would be employed.... but I really gotta say that in this game, it would kinda run counter to the idea. You're a mercenary. War is your business, and you're a professional. If you did your job right, especially if you coordinated with a few other people, you could destroy the tank, take out an enemy squad AND take over the objective with one life and a (relative) handful of ammo.
I'm not saying the idea doesn't have it's logical roots, and I could understand it being used, but I just think it doesn't fit because of the mercenary mentality, as well as how it would REALLY mess up the gameplay in my mind. |

You can actually already do this.
Hold L2, cook grenade. Run at enemy. Both of you die. Success!
For those who want to make a bigger boom, soon we'll have smartbombs that make your body explode in an AOE whenever the user dies. |

They just need to fix grenades disappearing at death. If you go down while cooking a grenade, it should either drop if you actually die, or still be in your hand if you're just down.
I can see militia scouts with top end grenades and smart bombs, oh the glory ^_^ |

In EvE, the smart bomb was a unlimited ammo weapon that effected everything in small radius, and didn't damage user, but did allies. EvE style smartbomb would be a great counter to circle strafing scouts outrunning turn speed as they have to be very close to strafe like that. Has it been confirmed smart bombs will be on death, like eve or both? I want them either way, just wondered if there are any details. |
