I am quite frustrated with how things are going as a sniper in this beta. I can't hold a natural breathing pause to steady the weapon so i can accurately fire it, instead I have to crouch which is inconvenient because your always going to be behind cover to shoot unless your a noob. I don't understand why a steady aim option isn't already implemented into the game play. It's in every other game already. it wouldn't be a hard adjustment for them to add. when you press down on the left thumb stick in normal mode you utilize your knife, well all they would have to do is use the same button when you aim in. it's not like I can use my knife when I'm aiming anyways. we should also be able to customize our weapons not just buy a whole ready made rifle I can't adjust. as a sniper you rely on three things, your weapons features, your capable range, and the concealment of your position. the weapon customization is a huge part of being a good sniper. If I had a list of please fix items they would be as follows;
1) Steady Aim incorporated into the controls 2) weapons customization 3) better spawn points or at least more of them 4) game enhancing peripherals such as a portable shield, invisibility incorporated in my suit or perks that make me invisible on the radar. I cant run fast/shoot, and snipers stay in one spot a lot and then move after shots. If someone runs me down im done and a little pistol isnt going to help...at all.
over all I think this game has some good potential, it's already better than battle field 3, but it has a long way to go.
Other "Sniper's" let me know what you think. in your opinion, what should be improved on and what should be dumped? our opinions will eventually form this game. |

"Little Pistol" can kill a heavy in 3 hits. :/
Steady aim function is called.. *gasp* crouching. I don't understand why you bug on this when pressing the run button ends a crouch.
Basically you're asking for a high-speed quick-scope sniper-fest?

If you move the stick very slowly your aim will steady a bit. Personally I think snipers are about the only balanced class in this game. If you die more than once or twice a match u are doing it wrong. Put your back to a wall. Move often, after every shot. Sniper takes time to set up but is very powerful. Grab yourself an armor rep or shield extender for a little survivability use a damage mod for more power and stay at range. You shouldn't shoot at them without being able to move without retal. If possible 1 shot per enemy |

I don't have a problem with having to crouch to shoot accurately at a distance. Sniper probably shouldn't be so much of a run-and-gun role.
I don't care about weapon customization. What's the point? We'd just stack withever +dmg mods or whatever onto it. I guess it'd be alright if they added weapon mods, but frankly the characteristic that really matters is damage, so I can't imagine there'd be much variety amongst sniper rifles.
I find snipers incredibly powerful already and actually think we need to be downgraded. So I disagree with the general theme of your post, that CCP needs to throw us a bone. If they made snipers any stronger, the infantry game would die. |

I agree.. The crouch idea feels a little clunky and stupid. I get pausing, crouching, aiming and THEN taking a shot. I get that they want to implement a sense of real time sniping, rather than quickaimfire COD status. But a steady aim or "breathe" button would be wonderful and it would seem a lot more realistic and useful. Any person could hold a gun steady in real life, faster than a character in this game can. It's absurd.. That and sniper vs. sniper is lame.. Who ever has the lucky shot that for some reason hits the other guy wins.. Even crouched, aiming directly on someone, you miss a lot. The hitbox is screwy or something... but it's just a sit there and see if you hit someone adventure and it's pointless. Also, if someone runs up on you, switching weapons takes WAY too long and you are killed within a second because you have no chance to un-scope/weapon switch/fire. You don't even have a chance to take a decent shot while standing or moving and you aren't any more agile as a scout. Reduce close quarters weapon damage or allow quick weapon switching. The scoped anything BTW is jerky as all hell if any movement occurs. FIX IT... -tear- |

There is a skill to reduce sway. I think its a silly idea, sniping while standing. Who does that? Not any real snipers. Just be glad you dont have to go prone. |

Yeah I know what you're saying I have a problem where guys go into spots where they CAN'T get hit you can have you're aim dead on and the targeter lit and no matter how many times you shoot you'll never hit them and they'll cap you faster than you can say "Oh crap." |

just wanted to nit pick at one point.....your rl argument is simply false. holding a gun perfectly steady even while crouched is not easy, its almost impossible since there will always be sway. the fact that there is even a perfect stability ingame at all is unrealistic and beneficial to snipers. |

Sniper being my primary job, I can actually say that I do not have a problem with how snipers currently are. Yes there is sway, but after a second or two it goes away, and as stated before, you can also take a skill proficiency that allows you to have -5% scope sway (so up to 25%).
Now, as for the other things, I know drop suit command also gives you a -5% signature bonus which (Correct me if I am wrong) should also help you appear off radar.
There are also a multitude of damage increase skills, and modules that you can add to your over all damage. Sniper Rifle proficiency gets +5% damage increase, Weapon Skill gives a +3% to all light weapons, as well as a few other sniper specific skills that increase effective range of your rifle etc.
The only real problem I have with sniping at the moment, is it is extremely hard to lead a person and make an accurate guess on where they will be hit by the bullet. It seems you have to wait until the sight turns orange and then pull the trigger. I have about 3 million SP that I have invested in sniper skills, and honestly I tend to get 70% of my kills from lazy snipers. Most of them post up in the same spot and camp there until they get shot. I generally take no more than 2-3 shots (usually only one) before I move on and run else where.
The class is not perfect, but I honestly can say that when you are sniped, it is not a cheap kill. Usually when I see my name, and having been killed by another sniper, I tend to learn from that mistake, and notice that I was either standing still too long, or I stopped and looked around for the person shooting at me (which usually if you take one hit they are too far out of rang for assault and logistics).
Playing a sniper just means you need to be smart about how you do it. Scope sway or not, get a few skills up, and upgrade your weapons, drop suits, equipment, and you will see a huge difference.
I will say, that not every game mode can accommodate a sniper, and I generally do not play the class in a close quarter ambush match, and switch to logistics or assault. So tread carefully, and be smart about it. Good luck! Cheers. |

I love sniping and do a pretty good job of. Here are my thoughts:
Tactus Mortis wrote:1) Steady Aim incorporated into the controls
Crouch - that's what it is there for. Also, if you have problems hitting while swaying, you shouldn't be a sniper. Targets move, you have to learn to compensate. I prefer something a little more reallistic like this in the game.
Tactus Mortis wrote:2) weapons customization
Welcome to New Eden. In New Eden, your customization comes from your fittings. Not all mods have been introduced yet, so expect more.
Tactus Mortis wrote:3) better spawn points or at least more of them
This is the role of your team - they set drop uplinks, or you can. This makes the battlefield dynamic by giving control to the players - don't take this way by adding/changing the spawn points. Learn to adapt to the battle as it changes.
Tactus Mortis wrote:4) game enhancing peripherals such as a portable shield, invisibility incorporated in my suit or perks that make me invisible on the radar. Shields? No. Your "shield" is your speed/mobility and already low signature. As for "invisibility", also no. There will be a cloak, but if you were invisible it would make you a god.
Personally, I think sniper is perfect as is. Also, Sniper isn't a class. Scout is, or Assault is, etc. Sniper is a role, and what you are asking makes it something other than a job on the battlefield. I hate to quote the hardcore guys that say adapt or die, but that is how I see this, and how I feel about your suggestions.

As a side note: balance to me means you have strengths and weaknesses, and typically CCP does a good job of this. For example, in Eve, artillery weapons have a hard time tracking small fast targets, or targets close in. Autocannons track small fast targets easily, and can compensate when close, but can't hit long range.
Now, apply that logic to sniper rifles and SMG's. CCP got these right as is. No change necessary, in my opinion. |

One more note, then I'll be quiet. A good soldier gives credit to his tools for success, and takes the blame for his failures. That said, not everything in game is perfect, it's just I feel sniping is in good shape and we need to focus on areas that need attention. |

First spawn: set up a drop uplink. Get to supply depot, change out fittings. Problem solved. Also, this is only a problem in ambush, and in these situations you can run faster than they can keep up. Also, you only need to worry about this in ambush; in skirmish, if there aren't drop uplinks out and you don't want to set one yourself (using the tools at your disposal), you can spawn at the back.
Life in New Eden is hard. CCP makes it hard for a reason. War is about adapting to the situation to overcome odds stacked against you.
(Please don't think I'm bashing anyone - just stating the fact that I respectfully disagree.)
EDIT: I didn't meant to lie when I said I would be quiet. |

I'd be happy with the ability to go prone if you want to gain more steadiness at the cost of mobility. No danger of making scope-n-shoot a powerful option, but still allows for that steadier shot when you need it, at a fair cost. |

1) Steady aim. Crouching helps as does timing the sway. I would like to have a prone option to steady up more. 2) Weapons customization is forthcoming. 3) Spawn spots are up to yourself or your teammates, but the ability is there already. I don't carry a droplink on the sniper fit because I don't want to be pinpointed, but some folks do for easy return to their snipe perches. I figure a good perch is hard to get to, difficult to see, and provides great visibility over at least two objectives and a supply depot. 4) Your invisibility is your choice of terrain, the reduction of sig radius through skills, and the little pistol works well with some SP investment. It may be asking too much, but some proximity mines would be awesome for when we're in the perfect spot, prone, and an attack avenue behind us in the blind spot. |

Cover makes me nearly invisible. Shot selection (not pray and spray) keeps me there.
Not obsessing over an individual kill and dropping back to hide when someone tries to rush my position keeps me alive.
Prone isn't needed, CCP has designed a lot of the cover well enough that if you don't sit on the FRONT of hills all day long, you won't be counter-sniped unless someone has already spotted you just by being alert.
Just wish some of the hills weren't quite so glitchy, constantly knocking you out of crouch.
Scrambler pistols have no muzzle climb, headshot multipliers, and great range. There's even a Tactical one, ( I really should re-train them to try that out... darn wipes)
Drop uplinks are great free SP... Just as you start toss one AWAY from your position before you hunt for your perch. |

A decent way to avoid the perils of close-combat, while nested, is to pick high ground with only one or two access points. Lace the paths with remote explosives, bait them into advancing, then...boom. I was surprised to see how often it works, and the added joy of detonating a trap is always a plus. |

Building a sniper build myself I only have to say this about spawing... take droplinks if you want to camp at 1 spot.
I always have droplinks with me for 2 reasons: - if I get a bad 'random' drop I make sure to drop 1 near an important point for the team whilest going to my next spot
- and in case I have a "perfect" (or I should say an 'as perfect as they come' spot) I will drop 1 for myself as to 'when' I get sniped by someone I can get back immediately into safety and move on to the next spot without being dropped in the middle of the battlefield and having to avoid like 20 assaultguns.
Yes it leaves you without extra ammo, but that's what the team's for and if not then grab your assualt gun and charge into the real battle...
