Sniper being my primary job, I can actually say that I do not have a problem with how snipers currently are. Yes there is sway, but after a second or two it goes away, and as stated before, you can also take a skill proficiency that allows you to have -5% scope sway (so up to 25%).
Now, as for the other things, I know drop suit command also gives you a -5% signature bonus which (Correct me if I am wrong) should also help you appear off radar.
There are also a multitude of damage increase skills, and modules that you can add to your over all damage. Sniper Rifle proficiency gets +5% damage increase, Weapon Skill gives a +3% to all light weapons, as well as a few other sniper specific skills that increase effective range of your rifle etc.
The only real problem I have with sniping at the moment, is it is extremely hard to lead a person and make an accurate guess on where they will be hit by the bullet. It seems you have to wait until the sight turns orange and then pull the trigger. I have about 3 million SP that I have invested in sniper skills, and honestly I tend to get 70% of my kills from lazy snipers. Most of them post up in the same spot and camp there until they get shot. I generally take no more than 2-3 shots (usually only one) before I move on and run else where.
The class is not perfect, but I honestly can say that when you are sniped, it is not a cheap kill. Usually when I see my name, and having been killed by another sniper, I tend to learn from that mistake, and notice that I was either standing still too long, or I stopped and looked around for the person shooting at me (which usually if you take one hit they are too far out of rang for assault and logistics).
Playing a sniper just means you need to be smart about how you do it. Scope sway or not, get a few skills up, and upgrade your weapons, drop suits, equipment, and you will see a huge difference.
I will say, that not every game mode can accommodate a sniper, and I generally do not play the class in a close quarter ambush match, and switch to logistics or assault. So tread carefully, and be smart about it. Good luck! Cheers. |
