I know I know there are a couple threads out there about this but each cover diffrent parts so i decided to pool it into 1 thread for people to link, relink, and hopefully ccp makes as a sticky.
Also bear with me on spelling mistakes and grammer errors 1. Im not the best english student and 2. This was done on my smartphone but i will try to catch all of the mistakes.
Microphone Set up:
Every headset is different and every one has a diffrent process but not all of them i know by heart so if any information is wrong or missing post it and i shall edit it in.
Wired headsets: These are probally the easyest to connect with your ps3 really only 2 steps to do so. 1) Plug the usb cord for your headset into the usb port in your headset (some are permanently attached to the headset) and 1 of the 2-4 front usb ports on your playstation ( depending on model u may have 2 ports or u may have 4 ports)
2) In the xmb menu scroll to the left and access settings. Then scroll down to accesory settings and access that. Scroll down to the bottom for audio devices and access that menu. You'll see three option respectivly audio input volume (how loud the microphone will amplyfy your voice; WARNING higher the number the more background noise is likely to leak through perfer to use the minimum required for other people to hear you), input device (what records your voice), and output device (what plays the recording of other players voices). Make shure both input and output options are set to your headset (normally it be the only other option beside the default). Input volume will need some tinckering with to get it just right.
Blue tooth: Am not to familliar with this process would apreciate someone else to post it will edit it in to this post
Playstation camera/eye/move whatever its called these days: Never had one can someone post explanation of setup.
Dust voice usage: Will be edited at later date need to look at dust settings for setup and currently dont have acess to dust514
Dust Utilizes a ptt (Push-To-Talk) system. This can be turned on or off in the chat menus (press select button to access) at the top right of the menu or in the options menu (start button for neocom options are at the bottom).
To use your mic with ptt turned on press the left d-pad arrow on the duelshock 3 controller. The buttom must be held down for the entire time you wish to talk (example: old school walky talkies and there ptt system).
Require input on directions for keyboard and playstation move ptt interface
Chat Channel Choosing: The only channels curently supporting voice coms are team and squad channels. You may only talk in 1 channel at a time. Inorder to see what channel you're currently speaking in access the chat menus (select button) and obove team/squad chat taps you'll see a couple of small dots. 1 of those dots til be lit green this mean you're currently chatting in that channel. Also if u look at the chanel you'll see a bunch of small speakers next the players names. This des not mean they have mics but that they are currently in the voice chat of that channel. You may only see what people are in voice chat of the same channel as you (example if you are curently talking in squad chat you will see speakers next to your freinds names but if you look at team chat you'll see no speakers not even by your friends names. Inorder to change voice channels its really simple. Open the chat menu (select button) scroll to the channel u want to talk in press x and select activate voice. Now u have swaped voice channels.
I believe thats all the necissary points to setup and ussage of dust 514 voice chat that i can currently give |

Bluetooth headsets just need to be connected with a USB cable or switched to bluetooth discovery mode.
The official 7.1 virtual headset just needs the wireless adaptor to be plugged into the PS3. No settings need to be modified, in 5 seconds it will all be done. I think that's unique as far as the PS3 headsets go. |

I have that official PS3 headset and have my mic on, PTT set to OFF. Yet, it seems no one hears me or maybe no one bothers to respond. I have tried talking in team and squad chat but no response, even from ppl with mics.
Also, I never hear anyone else on mic. In fact, I have never heard anyone use mic in all the games I've played so far...
Is there another setting I'm missing? |

in the options theres a section you need to turn on voice chat. once you get in a game set it to team and activate it.
not a good explanation but 'select' on the controller and youll see the team tab. you'll work it out. you then see a speaker icon on all your teammates that can talk, everyone should be able to hear you if they have voice chat turned on = i hear they like rick astley songs
also if your using the keyboard the z ptt key doesnt work but the the default controller one works. left on the direction pad. |

Right now I have a pair of IR headphones and a bluetooth headset (too frugal to spring for the PS3 HS), but before I would take a portable radio and play music while I checked my levels in the audio settings. That way, I had a reasonable guess if what was coming from the TV would activate the mic.
Still, wouldn't mind PTT actually working. |

Hmmm..you do it AFTER the game starts? Or can you do it while the game is queuing up in the Battle Initalization Screen or when you're waiting in that giant hangar room?
I know I have the voice chat turned on..I even saw Dust saving my Settings for voice chat. So its strange I still don't hear anyone.
I do see other ppl in my squad with the mic icon on. But never hear them. I actually never hear anyone speak, team or squad-wise.
I'm wondering if there's some glitch with the mic? |
