I've been thinking a lot about the corporation system that will be coming to dust soon, and how its going to change the way the game is played by people who are genuinely interested in an fps version of eve. Obviously one of the most important things is how new players will be able to team up with more experienced people and actually still be able to make a difference.
But it seems to me that corporations won't have any reason to take on new players, however specialized, because each match has a player cap right now. Even if a new player puts all his skill points into a specialization (AI, AV, logi, ect) He will still only be useful when that specialization is called upon, and a noticeably weaker member of the team when it is not.
Because the game has player caps in each match the only people a corporation would want to take along on an important battle would be their highest skilled, "jack of all trades" players who will be uniformly useful. If you would like an example look at all the "insert OP item" threads on the forum and the usual response is to switch to a setup that counters it, but if you don't have the sp you can't adapt to changes on the battlefield and are going to get torn apart and bring down your team.
CCP needs to take a look at the way corp v corp battles will be fought, otherwise new players who join will be left out of the amazing experience of eve/dust comradeship and organization and be stuck playing random matches.

They've mentioned that by release we'll be seeing 64v64 fights. Most corps won't be able to put together 64 troops if they're only accepting the elite few.
Also, we don't know for certain how planetary conquest will work yet. It's possible that you'll have to make a certain number of concurrent engagements, so you'll need to field troops to more than one fight at a time. |

Seems to me that skills, esp., gun game skills, will always be welcome in any corp/clan. |

The more players in a corporation the higher chance someone will be online when needed regardless of skill level, or class. Of course you can be organized enough to have a small corp, but for the most part, people have other things to do besides play dust and therefore might be left shorthanded come battle time. |

A corporation or Alliance may also opt to have multiple combat teams on the same or different planets across the cluster, hit everywhere at once. |

But what i mean is that the rifter player doesn't hold other peopel back in any way (his team can always abandon him and move on if he's going to be a problem) well a new player in a small fight is taking the slot from someone who can do more damage.
Also, i don't mean new as in first few games, but rather only has enough sp to be useful if they specialize (This is what makes it possible for newer people to help in eve, and should be how it works in dust) |

Those are like 1v1 frig fights outside of a station though. What makes eve amazing are the other people who you play with and the goals you fight towards (or fight to defend) Every player should have the chance to experience it.
I see the point of a blitzkrieg approach, and as long as it is possible to overwhelm your enemy with pure numbers my concerns will be unfounded. But if the defensive side of a fight is able to have a small group of commandos fight all of its battles there will be an issue. |

even if numbers stay "low" a larger corp would still have a numbers advantage if ccp allows concurrent games.
imagine i am attacking you. i have enough players to fill 2 games, you can only fill one. but tough ****, 2 matches worth of me are coming. so looks like you have to outsource that second match. good luck ^.^/ |

The new players I've seen become good in 1-2 days if they have an experienced squad with a good squad leader but most of them are from other games (COD, BF3) and catch on pretty quick. When this build first went live I struggled very hard to get a kill then I started playing in squads now it's not so hard if I'm in a good squad. I think you're worried a little too much plus they will have high sec battles that are like these corporate wars going on now- they don't have to be set up by other players in EVE. The thing OP is worried about is null sec battles which yea will be selective of who the EVE players want as mercs. |

You've never played EvE then. You can't really hold a fleet back by being in a rifter.....you can get yourself killed. And getting abandoned means usually you warped to the wrong gate or you got scrambled yourself and the enemy fleet is about to wtfbbq you. And fleets in eve can handle several hundred people plus at once. Most corps can't even field several hundred pilots. |

Each planet will have 15-20 districts, that's 15-20 possible matches PER PLANET just to capture one planet. Even with the minimum 15 districts that is 240 dust mercs |

The exact argument I was planning on making. Although the more contracts you run the higher your expenses. Though it is the same trick we have to think about now. How to balance our expenses. |
