Killzone has a solid weight to it and the movement, aiming, weapons and what have you feel good. I think this would benefit the game a lot, but it just depends how extensive their partnership is with Sony. I actually hated killzone gun play entirely. Guns felt like swinging around half water filled jugs of milk. And therein lies another issue: "feel" of the guns is a really damn hard aspect to quantify. Add to that the fact that everyone has their own preference, and many people stick to a single shooter series due mainly to how the guns "feel", and you end up with the inevitable disappointment of someone. |

Yeah this makes this sort of feed back much more difficult to pin down. however any sort of feedback about something 'lacking' is better than no feedback about something that is currently dull. Personally, the only thing that feels off to me is mainly anal retentive little things, like how the Scrambler pistol has recoil when its supposed to be a laser weapon, and how, as in pretty much every other game, the weapon animation for sprinting follows your camera view, making it seem like you're tilting your pitching up and down on your entire torso as you run.
I do however put a lot of focus into audio, and the current sound effects for weapons just don't make them sound very powerful. Its not all in the bass, but also in the modulation throughout the firing cycle. I can distinctly remember Robt McLees describing a playtest of Halo 3 where he redid the audio on the Assault Rifle, resulting in concerns that his "new design" was OP compared to the other weapons, despite the fact that the only thing he changed was the audio.
I'm willing to bet that part of this nebulous "feel" of the weapons comes from the way they sound as you fire them.
EDIT: Actually, I just read the description of the Scrambler Pistol again, and apparently it's a plasma weapon, just laser ignited. I'm personally hoping that the actual laser rifles will have no recoil and be hitscan, but that they'll have low damage per shot with a multiplier that stacks with the more shots you land on the target in rapid succession.
Btw, for those of you who aren't in EVE. Laser Rifle ELM-7 Laser Rifle Viziam Laser Rifle
These three are already in the market on Singularity. Here's hoping for next build! |
