I tried to play 2-3 days after the beta went into Singularity and the guns still didn't feel right.
Hit detection was better but I still didn't get that AAA shooter feeling (where I aim is where I hit and the hits register, gun movement is fluid, strafing speed works, etc., kinda like in Killzone 3).
EDIT: I haven't played since. Mehhhhhh... |

INB4 this is a beta and Dust is not COD, I KNOW and I didn't get into this beta to play COD or BF, I got into it to play a strategic FPS with politics and an economy, etc... but the shooting mechanics have left me very disappointed, I am back to playing Killzone, I hope CCP can fix this, if not this game will not succeed, guaranteed. |

It's better, but still needs work. It should be fixed by launch, just need to let ccp know when it happens. Lag and needing to lead shots also make problem seem worse. last game I played I could see somebody aiming about 20degrees behind where I was. It must have been displaying me where I was before I strafed so he was aiming at a ghost. This probably the real issue with scout suits, not the suit itself but the lag and hit detection making things that move hard to hit. |

Ive not heard anyone mention this before which is why i have kept it to myself, hit detection is better but with sniper rifles, if an enemy is stood close to an obstacle, either structural or natural(rock formation etc) sometimes, not all the time but sometimes, the shot does not register, it seems that once it does it the first time on a particular shot, theres no chance of hitting the player its affected. I know as i ve tried, emtyping 5 or 6 magasines trying to hit the same player from two or three vantage points.
But as soon as i go after someone else thing s go back to normal. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but there you have it |

I really hate to say it but I feel like the best build was the one out a few months ago, pre swarm launcher fix.
Everyone complained about hit detection in that build, but once you learned how to lead a moving target, every single bullet would hit.
This build? Single shots and limited burst fire seem reliable, but try going full auto spray with an SMG or AR and nothing hits.
Don't even get me started on the infinite loading bug when waiting for a map to start. |

note that aim assist is off in this build by default. your "fluid" AAA experience is normally loaded with all kinds of aim assist... |

I find hit detection to be problematic too. Something is definitely off when shooting people with the sniper rifle.
That being said, it's very close to being excellent... but I've unloaded 5 and 6 rounds into character models and know that the round would've hit but all I get is a blue flash. I really mean the shot was dead on, there's no way it could've missed by an inch... we're talking shots taken from less than 30 meters, and possibly less than 20 meters. They were very close. |

Here's a little experiment.
Next time you play BF3, or COD, or whatever else it is you play, go into settings, gameplay, then turn aim assist off.
Now go around shooting people.
Unfortunately, gamers these days have this expectation that whenever you aim at someone, the computer is going to put the crosshairs in the middle of their chest all by itself. This means that when there is a game with very little auto-aim, they get all up in arms.
I prefer shooters without thanks. |

Yes it's kittens anoying to unload a clip of bullets to an enemy to find out that it didn't do any damage.
Now what should be noted is:
* auto aim assist is nerfed that in my opinion is good thing. In shooters there should not be this kind of assists at all. One bosts of skill to shoot amazing kill streaks and funilly enough the machine is aiding one 'here i'll help you out.'.
* shots not registering at all, even if shot point-blank range or lagg behind several seconds. This is terrible and should het fixed in next patch.
* your charachters in-game skills affect somewhat how much damage you are doing and accuracy/spread of weapons etc. And this is one thing I believe what throws some people off. That gun handling gets better in time when you invest SP into appropriate skills.
*now on the bullet should hit where I point thing. sure if in close to mid range and using appropriate weapons and skills to reduce bullet spread. But in my opinion there should be physics calculations involved. ie. if shooting across a big map with sniper rifle the bullet should drop it's trajectory according to local gravity. Not to go straight path. |

my problem is the aiming is not smooth an there is no dead zone options on the sticks. i think if thay add a dead zone option it will help a lot cuz at this point i can move my stick like 2in befor the crosshair moves an that alone will make hitting a moveing target harder than it needs to be. |

I don't play with aim assist but when you are having problems at spitting distance at a stationary target with his back to you with a shot gun somethnig is wrong |

I hear ya . Gun game needs some serious work. Judging from all the thread titles now it seems the only ppl that still come here are obsessed EVE players since they don't know what the term "gun mechanics" even means |

The sensitivity is my biggest problem. Trying to aim is like trying to fly a kite in a hurricane. My crosshairs are just twitching all over the place trying to aim at a guy. I have sensitivity all the way to zero and with aim assist on, but aiming is still way harder than it needs to be. |

it's all server side hit detection. So when the servers are being dumb hit detection will get bad. That's what we trade for getting dust as an mmo. |

Hit detection... the new goto excuse for missing a person.
If you can put people in the middle of your crosshairs, they get hit! This isn't CoD where hitting an extended finger counts as a body shot. This is what good hit detection is like.
Sometimes there is lag, but other than that the hit detection is not an issue. Quit whinning and learn to aim. |

Strangely enough, I had issues with hit detection at the beginning of this build, but not so much now. I still need to lead some targets by quite a bit occasionally, but most of the time my bullets hit just fine. I guess I just have a good connection or something. Also, the shields flare even on a near miss, so the blue flash doesn't mean you hit them. |

Epic fail when the guy above you in comments has the highest KDR in the beta every single build lol and he says the opposite of you. |

One thing i've always noticed about hit detection - the shots that mess up still produce the same "shield-block" effect on the target.
That either means: the hit-scans in the shots themselves aren't properly matched up with animations (3-dimensional programming UGH) Or the game has a hard time distinguishing friend from foe in some cases. (FF turned off atm) |

Hit detection is meh' but I think that has a lot to do with lag and latency, I have had that sniper 'glitch" where my scope is orange cuz I am on the dude's head and the bullet never connects.. |
