Well I been reading and following this game for some time now. I have never played Eve online, but am very excited about this new cross platform MMO FPS game
Well I had a few games, and at first this is very overwelming.
Seems like a lot of people here are familiar with Eve, or have been playing the beta for awhile
I guess some tips and advice is a good place to start
I do have some questions
1) I was just scrolling through the forums and found some interesting topics, and reading through them I kind of sratched my head lol. I saw something mentioned about singularity is now live. Meaning Eve players can get in touch with Dust players.
Is there a way for Dust players to contact eve players? Can only eve Players contact Dust players? Can we be hired by corporations now in the beta? If so how does this work?
2) Is there any good clans out there that dont mind someone who is new and willing to learn, and am very fimiliar with other MMOs, and FPS games. (Im 32 male, First MMO I played was Star Wars galaxies lol I konw... and first online FPS game I played and quickly addicted to was Battlefield 1942)
3) Been browsing the market, and skills, at first it is a lot to take in, but I am starting to get the hang of it. However earning SP at the end of a battle is going very slow. Is this common? Also earning money I get maybe 50-80,000 ISK at the end of battle. From reading some forums I am understanding we can make more from companies/corporations from Eve Players. How to go about doing this if possible?
4) I have bought some skills, like vehicle piloting. In the BF games, I am very good at tanking, and flying, so I know after some training, I will be deadly on the battlefield, but is there specific things that are ideal to put skills into from the start. Give that extra boost for a noob going up against already xp players. Such as maybe focus on getting my dropsuit higher lvl,
I know it is customize to your playstyle, but just advice, or tips could help.
I read the sticky thread at the top of this section for people new and confused, but I didnt really find any of my questions answered. I am sorry if these have been asked before, I hope that this will not only help myself, but other new players as well.
I look forward to playing this game. As I been saying to my friends I think I found my new battlefield.
5) Again since I am new to this universe, if someone could maybe post some Eve lingo and what it may mean. Common terms and/or abreviations that are commonly used in Eve/Dust that may come up a lot. That way I can better understand what the hell people are talking about.
Any helpful links to my questions and comments are greatly appreciated it. I look forward to playing with you all, and cant wait to get the full experience of this games.
Thanks for your time Krynn |

I'll answer what i can.
1) yes, you can send an eve mail to an eve player and visa versa. Also if the eve players are in your system you can chat with them in local
2) lots of good clans or corps as eve calls them in eve. Seems to be some starting for dust but this functionality is not live yet.
3) when its in, an eve member can give you money. Not sure about any other way. I have not delved into the beta too deeply yet.
4) IDK.
5) oh boy... here we go (alot of this will not be related to dust as this is pure eve lingo but you asked for it:
POS: Play Owned Structure or Starbase Pod: Your escaple pod in eve, the last thing before you die once your ship goes pop Pop: ship blowing up HAC: Heavy Assult Cruiser BS: Battleship MoM: Used to be the old term for a Super Carrier, now its a SC. Dread: short hard for Dreadnaught DD: Shorthand for a titans super weapon known as the Doomsday Device Rat: Can either mean an NPC Pirate or a Player Piarate Prat: Player Pirate (old school term) Pirate: minni professtion in eve, someone who kills non pvp players or carebears to take there items. Noob: you should know this CEO: Head of your Corp or Clan Corp: In other games these are called clains or guilds. Alliances: Groups of Corps that hold 0.0 space 0.0 space: Lawless areas that are mostly player controled with a few excpetions Sov: short hand for Sovernty, or the person who 'owns' a system Egg: short hand for when you deploy a plyer built outpost (also old school) Outpost: Player built station. Dictor: Shorthand for an interdictor, its a type of ship HIC: Shorthand for Heavy Interdictor AF: Short hand for Assult Frigate cloaky: sometime term for any ship that can and does cloak AFKCloaker: Someone who sits in a system and is cloaked 23/7 GF: Good Fight Clone: Your backup when you 'die'
yea thats all i can think of off the top of my head. There are other terms like Goonie, CFC, DRF, which describe coalitions of alliances. But honestly most if these you should not hear in Dust. |

Since DaReaper did an excellent job of the other questions I will just add that if you are looking for a good Corp to play with I would suggest ZionTCD. It has a lot of seasoned members, but the CEO has made it a priority to try and find new players to help aclimate them to the DUST world so as to make good team players. You can find them on https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=22785&find=unread for information on their goals and mission statement. Requests for joining or to contact the CEO, Zion Shad, can be found at http://ziontcd.enjin.com. Hope to see you planet side! |

You don't really need anything extra to take down the more experienced players.
The first militia sniper rifle is good enough for most targets, although you do need to hit them twice tough or once to the head. Dis-including heavies of course. I have heard about good results from using militia shotgun with scout drop-suit as well, quick + silent + deadly. Most probably don't know what hit em before it's too late.
Personally I did 7.0 K/D in my first match with Grendror (AV-heavy) just by tagging along a competent LAV pilot. Now there are far more AV-builds around tough.
The little bird also tells me that upcoming build will bring pilot drop-suits for drivers as well, so they are probably best off not wasting too much of their sp to current drop-suits. that's assuming that the upcoming drop-suits are any good.
Probably best tips for new players are 1. TDM = stick to the group, you are less likely to get shot in the back due to random spawning. 2. Assault rifle = best at medium range, so try to keep that range against SMG/Shotgun users. 3. Militia Armor repair modules and shield boosters can do wonders for your survival as assault and scout. 4. Read about being a squad leader: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=33214 |

Well for starters EVE online testing sever is called Singularity or sisi for short and the main server is Tranquility.
Currently we can chat with eve players when they are in local chat with us which from EVE side means they have to fly in the right system (local chat is always a system channel, never regional).
Dust corps are now scattered in about 10 different *locals' in the EVE universe, so even if it says 'local' in dust it's not the same 'local' for gallente and minmatar characters.
Explaining EVE would take pages of text so I'd just recommend to try out a trial which is free for a few weeks that will explain you about EVE better then anything else.
Also as we are in early stages of interaction we currently only see dust stuff in the market but can't buy etc. it in EVE. Only really functional interaction atm. is chatting with EVE players, the rest will be added in later builds and once those are added it's going to be sweet. :D
Anyway welcome aboard to DUST soldier. o7 |

Thank you very much for your replies. A lot of good information. Ill be sure to go over it more closely once I get the time. I really appreciate it.
I did have another question.
When on the market place there is BPC, and BPO. I read the blue print originals are a color blue on the market, and are unlimited use. I know they are more rare, but are they out now? If so, I dont seem to see any, or maybe not sure how to tell them apart.
If there are BPO out now, how to go about finding them?
I also wondered right now I am using the PS3 controller. How many are using a keyboard and mouse? I know keyboard and mouse is better, but my current set up is hard to sit comfortably while using keyboard and mouse, so I am just using the PS3 controller. Im wondering how much of a disadvantage am I at?
I purchased the 20 dollar pack on the PSN in order to get into this beta (Couldnt Wait for release, or a possible code) and I recieved some items. A scout dropsuit, and a few others. Few questions Are these good? I am currently a assualt build, so Id have to train to use the scout dropsuit, or reroll another character. I Havent assigned any items yet as I am waiting to decide my playstyle, and what I am going to go with, but if I dont use them now, will I lose them when the beta ends?
What about our current progress, when the beta is over, do we lose all our progress and start over when the game is released? If so that would be a big waste of my 30 day booster lol
Thanks again for taking the time to read and answer my questions. You guys rock, and look forward to seeing you all planet side

All BPOs are currently in the militia gear category(there were some AUR BPOs available in the regular categories but they were removed this build). The vehicles are not BPOs though.
From what I've read the scout suit is the basic Type 1 suit but with unlimited uses(will save a lot of money over time). I've heard the SMG is decent but I haven't seen it used very often. You will not lose them if they're not assigned.
There will be a wipe when the game goes out of beta(SP and ISK wipe - not a character wipe). There is usually a wipe whenever a new build is put out as well. After each wipe you get your AUR and paid items back so now would be the time to waste it to figure out what is worthwhile to you. |

Militia are the same as what you are given it the starter fittings but they give you far more options on how to set them up. Putting a swarm launcher on a scout suit for instance for great mobility plus the option of carrying a nanohive to restock your ammo. Plus there are other items in there that you don't have access to with the initial fittings.
Buy everything in the militia category even vehicle modules as you can upgrade the starter LAV with a few things to allow it to live longer. They last forever and don't cost very much(you will need to play 2 or 3 games to buy everything in the militia marketplace. |

a few recommendations:
1) Buy the merc pack 2) Buy 1 of each type of militia weapon/gear/equipment/module for Dropsuits/Infantry 3) Create custom drop suits, do not use the starter fits if you can help it. 4) Skill up your weapon of choice, if you can't deal damage, you will die frequently with little to show for it 5) I also recommend you literally locate a teammate and follow him around, shoot at what he shoots at and hack what he hacks. |
