Other than just driving to the next objective or ramming people? Asking because I haven't used their turrets yet. Instead I've just been ramming them into fools (which is actually really rewarding). Only evidence I've seen that they're still pathetic was when I had to literally creep around to give a guy a shot with a blaster and got absolutely nothing accomplished other than overheating the turret. Still seems that missiles' splash damage is the only real weapon on an LAV, other than its weight. |

I'm a great LAV driver in general, but when I'm a gunner, most people move too sporadically for me to get a few good shots in I guess it just depends on the speed of the vehicle or something |

The downside with LAVs is they don't have the HP to survive an AV grenade or more than two swarm hits. Even the T1 ones. Sure, some people have gotten good at dodging swarms, but doing that enough to keep the thing alive through a whole match just seems infeasible. With the T1s costing over 100k they'd have to survive at least three to be worth the investment. |

the turrets still have the rotational inheritance bug (if the driver turns, at all, your shots go wild, impossible to aim while moving)
i just made one super tank-y and i play "car-shark" where i do my best to run over certain targets and intentionally swerve all over the place. it's great when they try to run up a hillside to avoid me, and i ramp right the **** over it...

Lavs and dropships need a small pilot controlled turret. As it is, it isn't worth it to spec into either |

Dropships are plenty worth it. I had a gunner go 24/0 earlier today in a militia dropship that survived the match. I haven't gotten good enough to keep a dropship alive consistently, but I also haven't started using Myrons yet. I'm hoping that the nearly doubled eHP will make that more feasible. |

Played a match yesterday as a LAV gunner, and even if I agree that the aiming could be improved (especially at speed), I managed to get at least 6+ kills before game was over. I had a good driver though |

I've never once seen a Dropship last more than a single minute since Precursor went live, though, to be fair...after hundreds of games I might have seen 4 or 5 Dropships in play.... |

In my experience with the LAV, I would say the best thing to do with it is transportation, and small hit and run kills. Similar to guerilla warfare tactics, such as small support roles, to draw(light weapon fire), transport a soldier or 2 to cap a position. or use it to counter sniper campers in the midst.
Just my 10 cents on it |

I think part of the reason LAVs haven't found a real strategic use is also part of the reason why many people are disillusioned with the dropship: we're not seeing the really big maps yet.
LAVs and dropships are supposed to be troop transports but on the fairly small maps we have now loading up, driving over, and unloading take nearly as long as simply hoofing it. I suspect we're eventually going to see very large maps, and on those maps effective use of LAVs as scouts, skirmishers, and early cap point...taker...guys...whatever will be important. We'll also see dropships used for their intended role of ferrying troops to battle, rather than as mobile spawn points with guns. |

On the other hand, the LAV's purpose is not troop transport, rather it is a mobile fast moving light weapons platform. It just does that job very poorly. Larger maps may well make it better though. If the gunner was enclosed, I think it would be able to perform its role much better. |

To truely fit that role it would need a pilot controlled gun |

Makes sense, but honestly, has CCP said just how big maps are going to be? I'm honestly not sure they're going to be massive enough to justify DS's actually operating as "Dropships." LAVs are efficient transports right now, but honestly, I don't think anyone's going to want to spend the SP or cash just being a taxi. A battle taxi, sure, but right now it's just too hard for gunners to get kills, and thus drivers assists. |

I disagree, it's hard enough to drive the LAV as it is without making me try to shoot people as well. A driver controlled gun only works on the HAV because driving it is relatively slow and easy and would be boring to drive without being able to shoot. |

I do well in LAV's.
I have a Saga fit with an XT Frag (splash bonused) missile launcher. I can take a good 5 or 6 AV grenades, but they are pretty easy to avoid if you are paying attention.
Swarms don't bother me unless I'm out in the open, which really sucks. LAV's should be a relatively safe way to get mercs across open ground, but an LAV in the open is dead since swarm launcher missile speed was increased so you can't get away by flooring it. This really needs to be changed, as it takes skill even on the flattest terrain to go full speed without spinning out, and LAV's need a way to combat swarms on open terrain. Swarms should be JUST underneath full LAV speed IMHO.
I haven't seen many forge guns this build.
Hardly anyone ever gets in my LAV. I guess most of them assume its a deathtrap that will get oneshot, but mine isn't. Most people that DO get in will jump out and try to kill people on foot rather than man the turret.
I think part of the problem is kill chasing, something I'm all too familiar with from League of Legends. Everyone wants to bail and chase down kills, instead of sticking together and giving each other firing support. People see the LAV turret as being ineffective, which it isn't.
The most effective way to utilize an LAV is too provide fire support for squads of infantry. You stick with the squad, and the gunner gives the squad suppression fire to support their assaults.
When we get some more gear (commander, pilot dropsuits) I see it working like this:
Squad 1: Squad Leader (Pilot dropsuit) LAV Driver Assault/Logi Assault/Logi Gunner (Pilot dropsuit) LAV Gunner
Squad 2: Squad Leader (command dropsuit) LAV passenger (combat) (combat) (combat)
The leader of squad 2 rides in the LAV, giving him the relative safety to mark objectives and targets for squad 2, focusing AV to protect the LAV. Once targets are marked he can bail and assist on foot.
The leader of squad 1 drives the LAV, with the logis in his squad so he can call for reps as needed. As squad 1 is supporting squad 2, it doesn't need to see the objectives marked by their leader, you just follow their lead.

Well, I had a game where pretty much the entire enemy team was mounted. Assault suits driving slammed LAVs into any concentration of guys and two heavies with HMG's popped out. Worked pretty well. |

equip missile turrets.
if you are squad leader then mark the LAV for a defend. (you will love the bonus WP)
stay away from swarm guys, unless you drive head on them and bail before they blow the LAV (i killed a guy this way, it was epic)
drive fast, drive smart, stay alert, stay alive! |

Emphasis on the mark LAV for a defend - hang around the LAV once marked, and you get 125 pts for a kill instead of 50! |

Gunning solo is bad. You either die or some derp on your team drives your 350k wheels into a wall and blows you both up.

My girlfried has proven to be a decent gunner even as she just started playing DUST. I already tried to be effective with the LAV in this build for some time and as soon you are able to get some tank on the real LAVs it's not as squishy as the Baloch. The real trouble I see are the weapon turrets that are only starting to be effective at small turrets LVL 3 for the rockets. The Railgun or even blaster a just a joke. The Blaster is not having any real role at the moment and the rail gun needs a small lock on area onto vehicles so you can shoot it while driving. |

LAV's are fun, cheap, and deadly in the right hand(s). Skill up till you can take a swarm off a free item build and buy/skill sm turrets in a manner to maintain a profit. I prefer rolling with a friend + mic but soloing is fun too. Beware when soloing the blue and green arrows can be more dangerous than the red. (Oh hai, i see your sniping that enemy railgun that's slaying our entire team from cover, let me help you by driving you out in front of it)
