There seems to be only few people who actually know or want to use the squad leader system in matches. Personally I am starting to feel like only one who actually uses the system.
Are players just oblivious of it's existence or is it just general indifference against the system? Even stupid squad leader is better than inactive one, at least in the previous build the players gained bonus points for following orders. Squad leader also gets rewarded when players follow the orders.
But well for those who don't know how to give commands or order those juicy orbital strikes when squad leader.
Commands:Open up Map (D-pad down) and point something (e.g yourself) and press and hold the x-button -> select a command.
Orbital strikeOrder it up just like you would order a vehicle trough (D-pad Right) -> Orbital support -> opens a map -> point position with as many hostiles as possible. Enjoy the fireworks.
Promote someone else as Squad leaderSelect a player in your squad trough the chat menu squad section (SELECT)
ETEREX wrote:Also, if you hold trigger R2 for the equipment menu wheel and then press thumbstick R3 (I believe) you can select a squad order from the menu wheel. Then aim at your objective and pull trigger R1 to assign the order. To assign orders to a command station you have to aim at the access console and be at a minimum of medium range.
Gridboss wrote: And for those using a mouse and keyboard, you can get the order menu up by clicking and holding the middle mouse button, then pressing Q.

Assigning a rally / defend order is twitchy, and half of the time when you select the option it doesn't register. I have a feeling it's because of how long you hold X for, or something. You can't set an order on the spawn screen looking at the map. Deploy, wait, bring up map again, twitchy select rallypoint, resume. Then it's hoping anyone will follow it.
Would be nice to have some more canned communications available, like requesting ammo / spawnpoints / deployment of vehicle X at location Y / Blockade position Z.
Personally I have had only problems with the rally option, capture and defend seem to work fine tough. But yes the system has it's problems. Probably the biggest being that there seems to be no other way than map menu to give commands.
But as whole the system currently seems like some sort of hidden feature which only few people know exists.
Liner ReXiandra wrote: Currently much easier if you'd just have a mic up and running.
Not many people use a Mic and when they do they don't necessary share the same language. Sure people like me can speak, write and understand English but just like any other language it's often very hard to understand anything from foreign language trough all the shooting, poor quality mics and mumbling.

Added the R2->R3 thing to the first post.
Lasarte Ioni wrote:So can you actually target a capture point in skirmish and set an attack/defend command? Because every time I try, i can only set rally points to the floor and target ppl, capture points don't register at all, I can't remember right now, but i believe i can't even set a rally point to the floor under those points.
The main issue with this command system is that i have a squad w mics, but i still have to use it, just because it gives free points (in theory, since i can't ******* target anything) so instead of 1 orbital strike per game we can get 2. Still, it would help if the tactical map didn't lag every time you open it, i should be able to issue orders while my squad keep the enemy at bay, but in the 4 secs it takes to open, plus the 2 to get a normal speed, plus the 2 u have to get X pressed to open the display... well, the fight is pretty much decided .
About the R2->R3 thing, i asked a squad mate to stay still, moved till i was at 1 meter of him and tried to set a "defend" on him; NO VALID TARGET wtf?
Oh forgot about the skirmish objective problem, for some really odd reason capture doesn't seem to work on those skirmish points, only for turrets, spawn points etc.
Personally I'll just use a workaround and point my squad to attack someone near the target capture point. It seems to also Tag the enemy, making it hard for him to hide. Not to mention squad will know exactly where he is instead of just seeing him on the map. Really like the feature, as it allows me to play my preferable role as "tactician" (Killzone3) and provide my squad with extra intel to help them finish off the enemy.
As for Defend, Ill just stick near the capture point myself and order my squad to protect me instead, and due to me sitting next to the capture point it pretty much translates to "protect the capture point" |

Thanks for the M+K how to, added it to the 1st post.
Please do spread the word about this, so we will start seeing more activity on the squad leader front. Seems there's even a party system in place trough the squad menu as well. |

No, you can use it the next time you spawn. It's recommended to use it at some safe location, as you can't really see or do anything else when you are selecting the target point from the map. |

Zan'aar Nexhawk wrote:I'm really enjoying the feature too, as it sometimes helps a lot and gets all squadmates together, even if we've been assigned in one squad randomly. However, it would be even greater if:
1) as it has been already mentioned, command points would allow setting a Capture order on them; 2) we'd be able to set a Defend order on a drop uplink.
In my opinion, the last point is especially useful in Ambush if there is someone setting an uplink in the area. At least that's what I always try to do.
Personally I like to set the squad to myself when playing TDM/Ambush, moving as a group really increases the survival rate in that Game mode. Mainly due to the completely random spawn system where enemies can literally spawn behind you. The spawn system might even use some algorithms to prevent players spawning in midst of enemy group making it even more effective.
Sure your team mates might kill steal a few kills from you, but at least they you and they die less which is kinda the point in the whole game mode. |

Haven't tested it so I am wondering are there any commands that can be assigned to drop-uplinks and those things that give you ammunition. They do show in the map after all.

Seran Jinkar wrote:Just give us a "Request Leadership" and "Request Orders" option....
One starting a team vote to be answered with square or circle and the other announcing your squad leader that he is asleep.
Yeah it's somewhat annoying that so many don't even know how/bother to abandon their squad leader position so that someone who knows/bothers could fill the role.
Hopefully more people will read the first post of this thread and notice that the feature exists and we start seeing more active squad leaders in the game.

It could also be related to points squad or leader has received. |

Yeah, you can't really do it while in middle of combat but it's still pretty rewarding.
Just last time when I was squad leader, ordered my team to defend that was attacking one of the enemy infested zones in ambush. Got shiploads of points in a rapid succession, maybe 200-300? in 10s or so.

Due to recent increase in new players entering the game I think this information is worth a bump. There are still far to few players using the squad orders and orbital strikes. |

Currently haven't found away to do that, but the squad-command system is only half functional so you only get bonus points.
- If squad member captures a point you have ordered him to capture (don't capture it yourself if you want points, instead wait until the member starts capturing and then assist him to get the reward.
- Defend object only yields bonus points only if the target is a allied vehicle, allied clone spawn point, ammunition storage. This means defend the squad leader command only tells your team to defend you but they get no rewards doing so if you are not in a vehicle. Then the squad members and leader gets rewarded from kills near the defendable target (area is wider than the circle shown in the map so don't take unnecessary risks just to stay inside the circle) |

xxBIG DIRTYxx wrote:Mauler McCoy wrote:While I'd like to see more coordination between players, I have to confess myself that it is damn difficult in ANY game to get a little cooperation. The few times I've been in any lobby of any game with a showing of mics, there's always just a buncha people talking about anything and everything under the sun EXCEPT what's really going on. The few times I break in I wind up getting yelled at for even calling out 'sniper in the courtyard'
However, I really think the problem is mostly that everyone is still stuck in Deathmatch mode. You don't think, you don't really plan anything, you just kill. So, if it doesn't immediately help you to get the objective to kill achieved, people aren't going to really do it. I'm sure if you signed up with a squad of people who went in with the intent of either issuing or following orders, you'd get a lot more coordination, not to mention a lot more done. Yes indeed, get to know the team players and roll with them. Issueing and following orders is a fine way to make massive SP and negate the effects of diminishing returns, i.e. 'gettin paid'. And keep on calling out snipers, tanks etc... ( and use the command wheel its faster and can be done on the fly..... R2 + R3, select command then aim with reticle and shoot command R1).
Yeah it's pretty handy that you can spot and mark enemies with the Attack command it could potentially save lives in your squad. Too bad only the squad can see it. Maybe in the future there will be a weapon/equipment for the same purpose. |

Yes, kills near the objective only count and the thing you defend needs to be a vehicle, spawn point or ammunition storage. The area is wider than the circle tough so feel free to spread around bit.
Rally and attack don't seem to give anything at least for Squad-leader. |
