It may be a glitch, but I'm constantly having to reset my voice comms from squad to team when joining games, even when I'm the only person on the squad.
I've also noticed a big drop in people on mic with this build, so I wonder if I'm not the only one. I also wonder if many people even know that you can switch your voice chat between squad and team. |

I agree, the default settings need to be reconsidered. Team comms by default, and push-to-talk OFF by default. Great to have options, but the defaults should enable open communication. Convention over configuration. |

I agree. TBH, I'm always in squad comms anyway, which is cool, but I'd prefer team comms while in the game, and switching to that every game would get very tedious. |

Greetings,
While I understand what you are proposing and why, I think it is already to late to fix.
From a technical perspective, it is pretty simple and that CCP chose to implement it the way they did tells me they are trying to create Monocle Fiasco part 2... AKA choosing not to listen to their player feedback.
Voice comms have gotten worse, instead of better, over the last two builds due to the way CCP has chosen to "fix" things. This has led many people to comment that they are going back to mumble / teamspeak / etc. I would guesstimate that a good number of them have since turned off their voice comms.
To make matters worse CCP, chose to make their 'universal' communication system a 'pay to use' feature, which has annoyed a number of people who were looking to move away from third party voice comms to a CCP provided system.... Causing them to abandon their plans and stay with their third party system. Quite a few of these people have probably turned off their voice comms.
Next, for what ever reason, CCP made the squad comms for both inbound and outbound instead of team and squad for inbound and squad for outbound. This is has undoubtedly caused a number of other players to simply ignore in-game voice comms all together. Afterall, if you can't hear the other team members, why have it.
Finally, CCP made the huge mistake of turning on grouping. Please note that I am not saying it is a mistake for the game at launch, but it is still a huge mistake at this time. The reason is that many people who are grouping up are using their group comms instead of team or squad. This leads others to see voice comms as being a ghost town, and they are in turn disabling voice comms. I actually thought seriously about turning off my voice comms last night for this reason... 8 matches and only had voice comms on one of them.
Now, before people start flaming me about my Monocle comment, let's look closely at the changes that CCP has made to "balance" things;
- Swarm Launcher Nerf. According to CCP Wolfman -- 'This is a bit of a brute force fix but it should solve the issues youGÇÖre currently experiencing. WeGÇÖll be looking at a more elegant solution for a future release when we have a bit more time to work on it. ' That statement was made 2-1/2 months ago.
- Heavy Machine Gun Nerf. There were lots of good / viable solutions to the HMG nerf, but instead CCP went with something that was dramatic overkill.
- Vehicle Controls Nerf. Again, there was a lot of feedback on ways to improve vehicle controls, but apparently CCP didn't listen to any of them... Especially when it comes to the Dropship.

How do you know this mass migration is what's happening, and not the much simpler explanation that the standard comm settings are the problem? Are you on one of these alleged Teamspeak or Mumble servers?
The "universal" communication is almost completely irrelevant right now, being that there are no corps and in-battle comms are all free. Why bother making a massive migration to a system that's complicated to set up? Maybe if you're already in an EVE corp with a TS server and can just set up another channel for your corp-mates to find squads. That's about it.
As for the future, if CCP wants to make money from the feature, it has to make the feature relevant. If no one is going to buy it at its current price, they will either change the price or cut their losses and remove the feature. It's been ONE WEEK. They will adjust.
I am not sure what you are referring to by "grouping," I've only been in teams or squads. Please clarify. |

This would again indicate that they are not listening to us. Why, because there have been many proposals and none of them listed splitting comms the way they did...

Are you on one of these alleged Teamspeak or Mumble servers? Quite simply, multiple people have confirmed it on IRC and on the forums. Additionally, I have been invited onto a couple of external voice comms.

Quote:I am not sure what you are referring to by "grouping," I've only been in teams or squads. Please clarify. CCP added the ability to create squads (groups) outside of battle and then take that squad with you into a battle. I talked to two different groups last night that claimed they were on their own group voice comms and refused to come onto team.
