I'm sick of all the 'over-powered' complaints. While some of these are valid, most seem to be people crying because they lost a few matches. So I thought, "What if we had some 'under-powered' weapons?" Do you have any ideas? Let's hear them! They can as serious or as crazy as you want. The only rule is that the weapon cannot directly cause damage to shields or armor. This includes detonating munitions (that is over-powered, in my opinion). Here's my idea: 'Discord' Sniper Rifle This rifle fires darts that can be programmed to have different effects. Instead of a magazine it has a revolving cylinder, with each chamber set to upload a different program. Higher levels = more chambers. The user gets to choose which program goes to which chamber. The upload time depends upon the complexity of the program. The effects last until either the dart's battery runs out, it is removed by a Repair Tool or it is destroyed (hope your friend is a good shot) Programs currently available: Poltergeist A remote hacking dart. Can be used on objectives and unattended enemy vehicles/turrets. After you sucessfully hack a vehicle/turret you can control it by remote. 'Please Kick Me' Broadcasts a Squad Attack order on enemy comms. If target is destroyed by the enemy (or the target destroys it's teammates), you get the points. 'They're All Out to Get Me' Causes the target's dropsuit to tag all players, vehicles, turrets, Nanohives, Drop Uplinks and objectives as the enemy. You get the points for any damage/hacks the target does to it's team. Malpractice Causes the target's Equipment to work in reverse: Repair Tools deplete armor, Nanite Injectors kill, Nanohives deplete ammunition and Drop Uplinks work for the opposition. Once the Nanohives and Drop Uplinks are deployed in this state, they remain that way. You get points for all damage caused by the target's Equipment. Plastic Surgeon Want to see something strange on the battlefield? How about Barney? A Teletubby? Or Pacman? This dart projects a simple hologram over the target that is not visible from inside, so the target won't know it's been hit. No points for this one, just something to make people say 'WTK?' (What The Kitten?) If your team destroys the target while it is being affected by any dart you get a kill assist.
More programs coming SOONGäó. (If you want to add to this list, be my guest) |

KAGEHOSHI Horned Wolf wrote:Made from Yan Jung tech (maybe made from reverse engineering scavenged technology from ruins) -A gravity gun that fires charged shots, and each shot will be a energy sphere that will pull in anyone that it hits directly (which traps them until the sphere disappears in 10 seconds), and slows the the movement of anyone moving away from it by pulling on them. It would be like the forge gun, but have the effect of trapping or slowing down enemy players. This weapon would be nonlethal.
Caldari tech -Antipersonnel stasis webifier: Reduces the maximum speed of an enemy merc by employing micro energy streams which effectively entangle the target temporarily, thereby slowing it down. Would be actvated by aiming one's hand towards an enemy.
Gallente tech -A group of spherical flying drones that orbit the player and generate a slight shield boost. When the player designates a target by aiming a non-lethal laser at an enemy, the drones move towards and fly around the enemy to do some light continuous shield damage, and distract. Great ideas! Although I'm not sure that last one belongs here, seeing as how it causes damage. Still, cool idea! |

I was thinking the same thing earlier. You beat me to posting it. |

Explain to me how you conclude that a weapon designed to cause confusion and disorder would be underpowered? That's the idea. Most of the 'over-powered' complaints I've read are about some weapon/vehicle being too strong when, in reality, it's just a skilled player taking them out. The weapons in this thread are not meant to cause any physical damage. Therefore, they are 'under-powered' in that sense, but can cause damage in plenty of other ways. A weapon is only as good as the person using it. |

Thruster Cannon - aka 'The Bouncer' An antique piece of zero-g mining/salvage equipment that received a Minmatar makeover. The thrusters were originally used to move large rocks/chunks of wreckage; simply attach to the object and activate the thruster. Refuel and repeat. Not very efficient, but cheap. Mordern technology has rendered them obsolete for their intended use, but an inventive Minmatar found a way it could be weaponized. The thrusters have been given the same homing capabilities of AV grenades and are dumbfired from a modified mass driver (slightly larger, with three large chambers). Once they attach to a surface the thrusters ignite. They are strong enough to change the direction a vehicle is traveling, either making them lose control or even bringing them to a stop. They have also been used to forcibly remove infantry, which is how it earned it's nickname. An incindent involving a merc irritated with redzone snipers on his team has lead to experiments in using the cannon to quickly move friendly infantry and vehicles across the battlefield. But while inertial dampeners can be activated during 'flight', there is still a serious risk of collision damage with obstructions, so progress has been slow. |
