I think ccp should add a weapon of this variety to the game for people interested in being a more tankish guy.
If possible even allow people to fire small arms from behind them at a cost of mobility and accuracy.
Now I know there will be people who are going to say this would be OP and such but this is why I made this topic, to get the opinion of the players, and to see what they might have to say to make a weapon like this balanced in this game.
Throw out your opinions and or ideas guys |

Yes it does seem like an excellent weapon for the heavy dropsuit. |

It is essentially a weapon that block incoming fire in a certain direction but leaves you vulnerable in certain areas when using it, makes you a great distraction to. |

Shields are a joke in every game that has implemented them, all the way back to counter-strike 1.6 If you want to be "tankish" then use heavy. What I think you want here is a way to absorb infinite damage and be a major annoyance to enemies, and to some extent teammates when you have no damage output potential. It would be a serious mistake to put a shield in this game. Heavy armor and a logi friend are all you need.
My response to this is that ccp needs to make it a balanced weapon, make it destroyable or something. |

Possibly disable aiming down sights and reduce accuracy, aswell as a longer reload time. |

I say amarrian would have the best coverage but worst vision and return firing.
Minmatar would have the smallest shield but best visual and return ifre.
Gallente has best return fire and medicore coverage.
Caldari have best vision medciore coverage and okay return fire.
Heavy weapon only. Stops bullets long as tis own shields is up any bullets that penetrate after its shileds are brought down do half damage to user if it hits.

We have it. It's called heavy dropsuit.
That's not a weapon. |

I suppose it might work, but I'm not too sure its a good idea.
Possibly a good idea. |

LOL, obviously you have never seen any counter terrorist forces, such as GIGN, SAS, GSG-9, aswell as police forces, Special weapons and tactics (SWAT) use them all the time, so surely with the technology EVE has to offer they can make a plasma resistant shield, like the armor for our dropsuits. |

This would be a very specific weapon/equipment that you would have to specifically level towards, and not even have a weapon after all that work, I just don't see the balance in tradeoff. What good is a heavy weapons specialist that only has use of a shield and a pistol? very handy in specific situations, such as taking a room or a post, but in the long run he will never be useful on the actual battle field.
It would be an excellent choice for indoor combat and and narrow areas. |

When you are behind someone static, you wip out your lance and hold the fire button and then an animation where you are thrusting the lance in them and holding them aloft in the air like a flag, before using a leg to push the corpse off the lance like meat off a kebab.
That sound epicly brutal. |

Or completely broken in hallways, or when someone backs into a corner with the shield and can't be hit except for throwing a grenade behind them. Please tell me what you want this shield to accomplish that heavy armor does not. You agree it needs to be able to be destroyed so that makes it potentially worse than heavy armor because heavy armor can be repaired. It will use up a weapon slot if it is a shield you carry, and an equipment slot if it is deployable. Heavy wins again. It will have to encumber you if it allows for use while mobile, because people already complain about scouts, I can only imagine the tears a shield would produce. They would have to be encumbered by it for balance so once again, no point over heavy. Even the games where shields have been used, every "class" has the same amount of damage absorption. This game has the heavy already to fill that role, so with all of the balance factors and the existence of the heavy class, please tell me what you expect this shield to do, that is not imbalancing or cheap/annoying, that the heavy suit does not already accomplish.
Well for 1 the shield wont be paper thin so it can absorb a decent amount of damage, think of it as your shell.
2 it will only be a slight decrease in movement, you wont be a stationary rock, and the key to defeating a shield would be to get behind the user, so the scout does have the edge but he would be one of the few able to such.
3 it makes the heavy more counter infantry and capable of moving freely out of cover without being lit up. |

I'm sure the #1 tool used for clearing houses in Afghanistan is the riot shield. Riot shields are for entering buildings in circumstances where killing isn't the objective. I don't think DUST qualifies.
Perhaps but we are talking about a more advanced shield, with the capability of firing a weapon behind it. |

IMO, the only way that would work is if the user walked really slow and could only use smgs or pistols with it deployed. It could be used as a good tanking mechanic when clearing out buildings. Still, I think grenades are the best way to clear out a room.
Well the user can sprint but at the cost of less coverage, and it will allow heavys to push down an area as long as they have cover. |
