Here's a first attempt at a protocol for new players who are a bit overwhelmed by everything as I was.
Out of combat...
- Priority 1 is to join a squad; lone mercs die to teams unless they are really good
- Join channel LFSquad and type "x npp"; wait for someone to invite you to a squad
- If after a couple of minutes you haven't had an invite, and you've seen other "x npp" posts in channel, create a squad and invite others
- If you are squad leader, try and get someone in the squad to be logistics
- Also, try and encourage people to be on voice comms (listening at least)
- When squad is full, join a battle
In combat, think CORE....
- get to Cover
- check for Orders (maybe just a rally point)
- Rendezvous with the rest of your squad
- Execute your orders (always sticking together as a squad)
If you are squad leader, your priorities in combat are...
- get to cover
- set a rendezvous (rally) point
- check for team orders
- once the squad is together, set another rally point
- repeat to keep squad moving
Comments, suggestions, critique and flames are welcome. |

This is pretty good advice thread. Good on ya Virex
Also, if you are looking for things to use (equipment, dropsuit modules, etc.), use militia gear until you can skill up/have the funds to buy better stuff.
The militia equiptment and modules are particularly helpful for things like armor repairers, shield boosters, etc.
Also, when you are in a squad, don't be afraid to branch out into roles. If you feel like being a heavy, be a heavy. Like sniping? Scout it up! Don't be afraid to mix it up, because that will give a very good idea of what to put SP into, instead squandering it on stuff you're not interested in.
Lastly, check the forums for recruitment threads! There are quite a few Corps popping up and looking for people and are willing to work with new guys and old balls alike

+1 this should be on the Dust bible. Almost after the genesis: "In the begining, there were militia heavys, so HIM nerf-hammered em, and he saw it was good" |

As a squad leader, I have a hard time just sitting back and giving orders, any advice on how to maximize my effectiveness? |

Once you become comfortable and quick with setting objectives R2 + R3 your wolfpack can rome and U can set Objectives on the fly. "the sqd is approaching a supply depot, set an attack/def/capture." You get a command bonus and your buddies get extra points for kills assist etc. |

On the subject of a bible...is anyone at present trying to put together anything along the lines of a user created guide? I know there's a lot on here but I've met a few players in chat online who are new and find themselves a bit out of sorts with the depth in character outfitting and skill building. I try and help when I can but I'm sure somebody could do a sight better than me. Dunno how the NDA would affect doin this tho... |

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
Now I need to describe how to do each of the steps in the protocol; we can't assume that new players know how to join a channel, create a squad or set objectives. Actually, I'm not sure I know how to do all the tasks myself |
