Can you please go back to the previous physics model settings for the dropships? The current physics model makes the controls too sensitive and overcompensating for rolling is making the craft too unpredictable to fly in a straight line for any length of time. What was wrong with the previous model? I could get my ship to fly straight, hover over the battle so that gunners could rain fire on our foes & I could also land on top of towers without rolling the craft onto its roof & thereby making it useless. Also the cost is a bit high at 151K per milita body frame with minimum fittings, it should be at most half that cost. |

And it is quite exspensive for an uncontrolable target. |

I actually like the new controls. They take some getting used to, but they allow significantly better maneuverability. Also, the difficulty and increased collision damage weeds out the noobs who used them exclusively to crush people. Only problem now is that they're too expensive; even the milly versions cost 135k a pop. Way too much, especially for something paper thin like that. |

They are still fun to fly. Really just takes a more subtle and finesse approach. Pricey militia version easy to kill though. Haven't tried to outrun a swarm since the one time someone fired at my ship I didn't notice it until hit.
Need a missile proximity warning or something.
But a welcome change from last build where every match of skirmish it seemed like there were 3 drop ships on every tower and 5 in the sky. At all times. Unless there were tanks.
The prevailing wind thing is a little weird. Sometimes can't tell if it is meant to be wind that I am flying into or if the physics is messed up and has me fighting against the momentum of my last pass over the map. Should not require me to do a quick turn and gun engines twice as long in the opposite direction just to stay stillGǪ unless it is a very mighty wind. |

All you need to do is put your nose up and cut your thrust. The rise from pointing up and the fall from cutting thrusters will cancel and you'll remain at the same height, but you'll dump your forward momentum. If you do it right. |

Ha, I have been doing fairly ok at staying still. There are just times when I want to go forward and am still staying still. It usually happens after drifting at a nice pace over the map for gunners when I want to go back to the other end and start another run. Problem is I cannot get forward momentum in that opposite direction. And just end up getting nowhere.
Thus my flying into the wind theory. But could just be my flying... period. |

Thus my flying into the wind theory. But could just be my flying... period. Have you tried rolling? Let the ship bank in the same direction that you're turning, and it should neutralize your tangential. Once you're pointed where you want to go, put your nose down until you're fairly low; you'll pick up speed. When you level out and start climbing, you'll still have your forward momentum.
Also, it would be nice if they added an "autohover" mode akin to Arma II's. You could press X to toggle, and it would stop you and hold you still. You could move with it enabled, and it would stabilize your flying, but you would go considerably slower. Would be great for pickups, dropoffs, and fire support though. |

That is exactly what I have been doing. But no forward momentum. Only have flown a few times so don't know if it is same with every map. But does feel like trying to fly a boat upstream. Would be kind of cool if they did have a prevailing wind physics thing going on though... for added realism. |

I agreed. an autohover with reduced movement/manuevering capabilities would be a great addon. after all it IS a dropship. |

I have to say I like the new physics. It's actually some kind of achievement to NOT run the DS into something. Maybe it's a bit wobbly, pricey and hard to practice. BUT it's challenging and really gives this pilot feeling I remember from flying helicopters in the first days of Battlefield. |

The dropship is perfect as it is. I will be posting a proper dropship flight control manual later on but for now I have this for you to examine. |

I liked the previous vehicle controls.
The lack of infinite militia dropships, and the price hike is enough of a nerf. the extra nerfing that is the changed vehicle controls is uneccessary and does not improve the game.
.Even militia dropships that can be destroyed with weapons ranging from free (militia swarm launcher) to about 4,000 ISK (standard forge gun) can cost more than 130,000 ISK. Militia dropships are no longer permanent (which I think is a good thing). Think about these things together, expensive + hard to use, because something is hard to use, it requires practice, but should someone have to spend hundreds of thousands of their ISK on a couple of weak piece of poop dropship sthat might get taken down in 3 minutes just to get use to the controls? If it takes using 3 dropships to finally get good at using the new vehicle controls, then it will cost 390,000 ISK just for practice. |

I shouldn't need a spread sheet, a magician, and the pope in order to fly a Dropship.
New controls aren't even remotely fun. |

I preferred the old controls, but the new ones would be ok if you could hit X or whatever to activate "easy" or "hover mode", more akin to the old physics. You would then move much slower, but be more able to control it for landings and around buildings. The hover mode should also make it impossible to get flipped over by scraping on the the side of buildings and things, really easy to do when your trying to land, and you can't easily right yourself again.
At the moment dropships handle like helicopters, which is pretty silly, I mean this is the future right? There should be lateral thrusters on these things. |

As for the helicopters remark, there is a very wide array of controls on helicopters today. We have extra stable ones and we have trick flying ones. It's just a matter of how you implement your flight controls. I, for one, believe military vehicles should allow a larger array of movement due to the battlefield being unpredictable. |

I wasn't having a go at helicopters really, I was just saying that they fly forwards/back/left/right by tilting the rotors to move that downward thrust at an angle. Dropships shouldn't necessarily have to do that, they should have thrusters on the back/front/sides, so if you want to slow down you can fire the retro thrusters on the front of the vehicle.
They currently feel like helicopters, but with the rotors on the bottom of the ship. Very weird. |

They currently feel like helicopters, but with the rotors on the bottom of the ship. Very weird. Them handling as they do is a good thing; you have total control over the position of your dropship. Anything less would cripple your maneuverability. For instance, you can now make tighter turns at higher velocity and can climb significantly faster.
Also, I suggested having a "press X to autohover" earlier in the thread. |
