I actually like the new controls. They take some getting used to, but they allow significantly better maneuverability. Also, the difficulty and increased collision damage weeds out the noobs who used them exclusively to crush people. Only problem now is that they're too expensive; even the milly versions cost 135k a pop. Way too much, especially for something paper thin like that. |

Sometimes can't tell if it is meant to be wind that I am flying into or if the physics is messed up and has me fighting against the momentum of my last pass over the map. Should not require me to do a quick turn and gun engines twice as long in the opposite direction just to stay stillGǪ unless it is a very mighty wind. All you need to do is put your nose up and cut your thrust. The rise from pointing up and the fall from cutting thrusters will cancel and you'll remain at the same height, but you'll dump your forward momentum. If you do it right. |

Aighun wrote:Ha, I have been doing fairly ok at staying still. There are just times when I want to go forward and am still staying still. It usually happens after drifting at a nice pace over the map for gunners when I want to go back to the other end and start another run. Problem is I cannot get forward momentum in that opposite direction. And just end up getting nowhere.
Thus my flying into the wind theory. But could just be my flying... period. Have you tried rolling? Let the ship bank in the same direction that you're turning, and it should neutralize your tangential. Once you're pointed where you want to go, put your nose down until you're fairly low; you'll pick up speed. When you level out and start climbing, you'll still have your forward momentum.
Also, it would be nice if they added an "autohover" mode akin to Arma II's. You could press X to toggle, and it would stop you and hold you still. You could move with it enabled, and it would stabilize your flying, but you would go considerably slower. Would be great for pickups, dropoffs, and fire support though. |

Bo Tracta wrote:I wasn't having a go at helicopters really, I was just saying that they fly forwards/back/left/right by tilting the rotors to move that downward thrust at an angle. Dropships shouldn't necessarily have to do that, they should have thrusters on the back/front/sides, so if you want to slow down you can fire the retro thrusters on the front of the vehicle.
They currently feel like helicopters, but with the rotors on the bottom of the ship. Very weird. Them handling as they do is a good thing; you have total control over the position of your dropship. Anything less would cripple your maneuverability. For instance, you can now make tighter turns at higher velocity and can climb significantly faster.
Also, I suggested having a "press X to autohover" earlier in the thread. |
