if there's any certainty in this beta, it's that circumstances leave very clear winners in terms of items or dropsuit types or weapons types.
so what's the superior kit this build? NOTE: i'm doing all my testing to militia or standard gear, since that's all i or anyone can afford this build
as far as i've learned, it's -scout dropsuits (bad hit detection still makes them invincible if they strafe a lot) -shotguns (for whatever reason, they hit EXTREMELY hard now, and aren't as badly effected by the bad hit detection) -sniper rifles (paired with the keyboard and mouse and expanded draw distance, these are extremely deadly, even the militia ones) -fused locus or 'cavity' thukker locus grenades (explode on contact, almost always an instakill against everything short of a full proto suit. the fused are only available through the merc pack, and the thukkers are aurum only. there is no isk variant of this grenade)
also, there are losers;
-Heavy dropsuit (same as last build, still not too difficult to take down as long as you strafe quickly, so their one main defense isn't all that effective) -HMG (seems to be particularly susceptible to hit detection, very hard to hit moving targets effectively and it doesn't do that much damage anyway) -Mass drivers (all variants are terrible in their own ways. the regular has too little ammo, the breach has WAY too tight a blast radius, which means you don't hit anything thanks to hit detection, and the assault does so little damage when it hits. the main problems are bad hit detection and TINY ammunition reserve and a TINY clip)
has anyone else found winners or losers? what are they and why? |

Extremely powerful, explodes on impact. Instakill.
you know, it's weird, i keep looking for those damn things on the market but CANNOT find them. there is no "fused locus grenade" on the market does the kill reporter just confuse the 'cavity' thukker locus grenade as a fused locus grenade, and mis-report the name? because the thukker is the only thing with those characteristics on the market |

They aren't there. They're from the Merc pack. If you want something similar, use the 'Cavity' Grenades.
well that's disturbing i'd cry "pay to win!", which would be kind of accurate, but i bet ccp will make an isk variant sooner or later

tried all three mass drivers (with weaponry 4 and an enhanced light damage mod, using standard level gear)
breach; requires PINPOINT accuracy to do any damage. if you manage to actually get a hit, it does slightly less damage than an unmodified militia shotgun. also it only has 4 shots per magazine and 12 total, you will be reloading very often, and out of ammo even moreso. PASS
assault; much more forgiving for hits, and has a nice fat 6 round magazine with 18 total. the damage is pitiful however, you'd be better off using another kind of weapon. PASS
normal; strikes a decent balance between the two, but still requires too much accuracy and does too little damage to justify itself. PASS
also tried breach shotguns they're terrifying with a damage mod, i become the angel of death, and anyone within ten feet will feel my icy fingers. anything short of a heavy is one shotted. even well fit heavies only require two shots. as a caveat, the two round magazine and very slow reload means you better have at least decent aim |

just tried the tactical assault rifle (same deal, weaponry 4, enhanced light damage mod)
it's...interesting, actually. the ability to choose your firing rate makes it super flexible, high speed in CQC, high accuracy over long ranges. however hit detection gets in the way again, meaning you have to feel out most targets before actually starting to fire for real. the damage is certainly satisfactory however, and it seems to have a large clip since you don't need to go full auto the entire time.
verdit: i want to love it, might be better on a heavy dropsuit? seems like a well balanced weapon |
