So I was thinking about the issue people (myself included) are having with the high isk costs of well...everything. In another thread someone mentioned risk vs reward, and I commented that they've done very well with establishing the risk element. That got me thinking about turning the issue upside down. Right now you can know exactly what risk you're taking deploying a vehicle or using a non-militia suit, but there's no way to evaluate what the potential reward is. Now this probably wouldn't work so well for instant battle, but what I'm thinking is that when you're selecting a battle to join there should be some information about the contract rewards available. ie: How much the team will get just for fighting as a base amount, how much of a bonus for winning etc.
It would give you an estimate of the potential upside to using expensive gear. If the contract price is low then you're obviously not going to gain much at all from using something expensive, because you will have to replace it. The current situation also doesn't make much sense...what mercenary would take on a contract not knowing what they would be paid? |

My understanding is that the war points is used to determine what percentage of the spoils goes to you. We also can't just say, "The eve players will fix it" because the game has to be able to work without them being involved. The issuing of contracts from Eve players isn't even certain yet...they haven't decided how Dust might influence player sovereignty. Last I read it will be at least a year before that starts to happen. A year is a long time to go without any predictable payout for a mission. What will happen is people will stick to militia suits and get bored because the hard won skill points aren't good for anything. Sure you unlock more powerful items, but without some predictability in rewards you can't evaluate whether or not actually using the upgraded gear is a bonehead move or not.
It's also possible that they won't be able to come up with a model for how Dust influences player sov that Eve players will accept, which means it might never happen at all. |

Except that CCP themselves have said that they are slowly iterating Dust integration with Eve, with the point being to not seriously disrupt the gameplay in Eve. Eve is their bread and butter, they're not going to risk screwing up the high level metagame that does all their marketing for them. Watch the fanfest videos, Dust null battles are at least 12 months away. We need to be able to make intelligent decisions about our gear loadouts before then. Also watch the interviews with the Dust marketing guy. He clearly states that the intent is to make Dust a game that will stand by itself, which means it needs to give players the information they need to play intelligently from the get-go. |
