Hi fellow Dusties,
With KB+M now supported in the current build, I'm wondering if you can share:
(1) What brand of KB+M are you using? Is it bluetooth or USB? (2) Whats the performance, in terms of sensitivity, responsiveness etc within the game. (3) Level of in-game customization (sorry have not updated my game yet, so not sure how it is implemented) (4) Overall feel in-game and in-hand.
Thanks! I'm itching to try out the Hori TAC3 but I'm also wondering if I should get another brand if its clearly better than the TAC3.

So far I only played 2 matches, but M+KB feels great.
1. I'm using my good old Razer Diamondback 3G and a cheap Logitech KB. Both USB.
2. Performance is pretty good. Feels almost like playing a PC shooter game. Though your turn speed is limited, so no crazy 180-¦ turns are possible. This was not a big deal for me so far. And from a balancing point of view seems a logic consequence for having players with different input methods playing together.
3. You can customize your mouses sensitivity... haven't tried to customize keys yet.
4. As stated before it feels great. It is different from playing a PC game but I think thats mainly because of the limited turn speed. And as someone who plays shooter games almost exclusively on PC wit KB+M I can say it feels definately much better than using a DS3.
So with KB+M support I switched from "enjoying" the game to "LOVING" it! |

Im using just a cheap set up dont know the brand
and I was disappointed with it, i like playing PC shooters and PS3 shooters so like both styles but felt the mouse to be very sluggish even with the sensitivity turned up to 100 , i mentioned its a cheap set up but have no problems with other PC games.
After 2 games i went back to the controller, so my opinion is that if you are from cant use the controller ( and i have played with alot of my eve corp mates just spining around in circles:) then the KB/M is allright but people who were worried about KB/M being better than controllers and saying its unfair, then i wouldnt worry.
But thats just me |

Thanks for the great reply. I'm finally going to have the chance to toy around with KB+M tonight after work. Any other reviews from users of:
Aimon PS Elite, Eagle Eye, or Hori TAC3?
or just a bluetooth KB+M combo? I'd imagine bluetooth is also supported?

Using a cheap logitech keyboard and mouse, I played a lot of matches alternating between it and controller.
With sensitivity set to 100, I had issues with turning. While a target was in the general "cone" in front of me my aim was incredibly better than my admittedly poor controller performance. Fast, responsive, great, everything I hoped for. Now, I wanted to turn to the right, and it gets sticky. Literally. I had to just flail the mouse to turn my guy around. To turn 180 degrees, I had to move my mouse about 6-8 inches a half dozen times.
It was just terrible, TERRIBLE.
That being said, as long as I wasn't having to be very agile, heavy machine gun in corridors, it was a wonderful experience. Trying to run around as a scout, I felt less maneuverable than a heavy on the controller.
I'm going to play with it some more, and am hoping that there is some ps3 sensitivity thing I can change. |

I'm using some microsoft gaming mouse and keyboard and it works great, the sensitivity is good, right now I have it at 30, sure I turn around a bit slow but when aiming it's still to fast for me :) I'm used to playing shooters on ps3 with a fragfx v2 and right now, in the new build, it suck. Going to test the eagle eye later on today seeing as you can't change buttons on the keyboard or mouse yet. I'll be back with a few words on the eagle eye. |

I wonder how it'll play with a trackball mouse. Seems like it would be much easier in regards to turning. Might have to go pick up a cheapo and try this weekend. |

1. das blues and old school Microsoft optical wheel mouse.. 2. its a keyboard and a mouse. I press a switch and it does stuff. I move my mouse and it does stuff. 3. I couldn't seem to customize keys 4. It feels like shadowrun on a poor mans pc. A bit of input lag and hard coded limited turn speed. |

(1) G15 Keyboard with a Cyborg R.A.T 5 mouse - both USB
(2) Tried it for literally five seconds in the Mercenary's Quarters and realized that it had the same turning speed as the controller. Which is a good thing - but also a very horrible thing. A controller can hold the direction at which it turns where as a mouse-user has to physically lift the mouse and set it back in position to keep turning.
(3) Don't understand this question. It's has Mouse-Smoothing and Sensitivity settings, but they don't really work well.
(4) It'd be good if the sensitivity was dramatically higher but kept the turning speed. No-one wants to have to flick the mouse across the desk in order to make a 180 degree turn, much less a 360. With the mouse sensitivity all the way up (adjustable by the mouse itself), the in-game sensitivity all the way up, and mouse smoothing turned off you can turn perhaps 20 degrees in any direction before you have to lift the mouse and set it back down on the mouse-pad. At current, this is a dramatic disadvantage - and like myself, many have just resorted to using the controller as (even though it's not our preference) it performs exceptionally by comparison. |

1. G15 and mx518 Logitech gaming mouse. 2. Its responsive enough but the turn speed makes it very different from say bf3 even with the sensitivity at 100. 3. Standard, the stuff you'd expect 4. Didn't like it. Maybe it would feel better at my desk rather than the coffee table. Already back to ds3. Its much more intuitive anyway, especially for vehicles. If the turn rate was faster then it would be a must have. I think that CCP have implemented it perfectly, I was really worried. The only advantage with it is mouse aiming, but that said, I'm so used to ds3 now i t felt completely in natural and I was completely KITTEN |

prior to this build I used a dual shock emulator called gimx so I have had KB/m support all along. I love the KB/M support native to this build even better. the turn rate is fine in match. I saw one post here where he said he used it only in his quarters and it was bad. try in game much different turn mechanics. I would suggest using a high DPI mouse as I see a definite difference between my 5300 DPI mouse and a standard cheap mouse. I use a rat 7 mouse and a perixx periboard mini keyboard both usb . also keep in mind any wireless device will naturally introduce lag. my only complaint is we can't remap buttons on the keyboard or mouse and that would make it perfect. great job ccp. I am very impressed and please let me use all my mouse buttons on the next build and remap keyboard...thanks |

ya it works but not so well you need to push reload on your Ps3 remote.. other then that works fine... Hoping they add a custom option so we can move the keys around. |

1) Logitech USB keyboard and mouse. They're old.
2) Sensitivity caps out at relatively sluggish. It took me ~24 hr to download the new build (probably something on my end?) so I read horror stories about mouse sensitivity, but it isn't that bad. Definitely playable and responsive. It needs some fine-tuning but it's like a whole new game for me.
3) None? There are option menus for keyboard/controller/PS Move layouts but I wasn't able to change any of my keys, which sucks. Maybe the UI just wasn't clear enough on how to do it, maybe it's a feature they're working on, but right now all I could change was my sensitivity.
4) Feels good, man. It's like playing a real FPS game on the PC, almost. Once they tweak it a bit it'll be great. Hopefully this'll make transitioning Dust to the PC that much easier. I guess I should add that I have my PS3 setup right by my computer and use my PC monitor to play the game. So I'm not sitting at a couch with a coffee table trying to play the game all hunched over or whatever. |

thought the same, Maybe fixing the DS3 to the table and if possible switch the left and right contolstick in the keymappings. Should give you better access to buttons on the right side of the controller. Im not sure if this will give you an improvement, sever is down atm so im not able to test it.
Edit:Hmm maybe this. |

Time to pitch in a couple of reviews of my own:
1. Hori TAC3. This is a USB product (ie mouse plugs into keypad, then keypad plusg into PS3)
2. Just bad across the board. A lot of jagged movement especially on the diagonals. For some reason, the movement keys are not functioning properly in this game, even though it works fine on other games. As in, my dustie will walk half a step, pause, and walk another half step, pause, etc. I'm not sure if this required a firmware or driver update but even an old bluetooth keyboard I had worked well. Regretted this purchase.
3. Mouse movement is non-scalable by itself (ie only one dpi setting). Other customization options per in-game.
4. Feel of the mouse and keypad are ok. Designed with PS3 in mind so the PS symbology and PS button is built-in. However, its overpriced and performance is woefully inadequate for this game. Might work well with other FPS but I'd certainly NOT recommend this for Dust. |

Next:
1. The Razer Nostromo and Logitech G100 mouse. Both are USB devices.
2. I had the Nostromo from last year, and I think its a great device for Dust. My desk space for the PS3 setup isnt very big and the small footprint of the device fits well with the mouse. You can customise the keys and save it into the device memory according to the key setup in Dust, and it works fine when plugged into the PS3. The only thing is I've not figured out if there's a way to program the PS symbols (square, X, O, and the triangle thingy) into the Nostromo, which is originally designed for use on PC/Macs. So I had to swap between the DS3 and Nostromo when it comes to some parts of the UI. However, in-combat, the Nostromo holds its own and the ergonomics really shines through. Nothing much to say about the mouse, except it has a nice button to change the dpi on the fly (max 2500 dpi). Slight changes can be detected in-game and the higher dpi makes the mouse more responsive.
3. Again, not much in-game customisation other than the default sensitivity settings in Dust.
4. All in, a much better solution than the Hori TAC3 as reviewed my previous post. The Nostromo is a luxury which I'm using simply because I already have it for my older PC games, otherwise I'd think most KBs work fine with Dust. But glad to see that it works for this game as well. If anyone knows of a way to have it programmed to make the PS symbols that'd be great if you can share it.
Cheers. |

So, after playing like ...many... more matches during the weekend I'd like to update my review.
It took quite some time to make KB/M really "feel" good and it has its limitations.
Setup:
- cheap Logitech KB + (good old) Razer Diamondback 3G
- I set the pointer speed in the PS3 options to "fast". (I'm not sure if this improved anything at all or if just placebo.)
- Mouse sensitivity is set to 80. (I'm usually a "low sensitivity user" but anything below 80 is just useless and anything above is too fast while aiming but still too slow when turning around.)
Now the important part: I have to use a scout suit. The turnspeed of the scout suit is just about acceptable when using KB/M. I've tried using assault and logistics but their turnspeed is way too slow to be effectively used with KB/M imo.
With the scout suit and a tactical AR + submachinegun I'm able to perform pretty well in almost all matches.
What I'd like to see changed: Increase turnspeed of all dropsuits. Maybe make it so that the heavy dropsuit turns as fast as the scout does at the moment and make the other dropsuits turn slightly faster. |

(1) Logitech G15 keyboard and G500 mouse (2) I have my sensitivity set to 100. I can aim just fine but turning is an issue (3) Can't customize... but standard layout (4) Needs a bit of work. If they could make the turn speed the same as it is on a controller then I'd probably make the switch. For now though, I'm sticking with the DS3 |

Apple extended keyboard, cheap generic mouse. I'm a PS3 gamer, not a PC gamer though I do enjoy a bit of STO and am seriously involved in Second Life.
Previously on the PSone and PS2 I preferred a hybrid dual shock + mouse control scheme when it was supported..
I tried out different controls today including hybrid:
1. Aiming is somewhat easier with the mouse but the turn speed is more sluggish. you also lose access to the face buttons and can't remap...yet. (I want reload on middle-click at least).
2. keyboard movement sucks donkey balls, the dual shock folks have an easier/better time with movement.
3. I wish I could set separate Y-Axis controls for DS3 and mouse. I want inverted for DS3, but NON-intverted with mouse. I suspect DS3 users will have an easier time as vehicle pilots, in the same way that even PC gaming magazines recommended controllsers for vehicles in Star Wars Battlefront, even if they recommended kb+mouse for infantry.
4. It is actually easier to aim with the DS3 while zoomed in.

Also, has anyone tried the Steelseries Sensei gaming mouse?
I read that an interesting feature is the CPI (characters per inch) adjustment function. Basically it allows you to set how far your mouse pointer travels for the same amount of physical movement. And all settings are saved in the device itself. Meaning you dont need the mouse driver software to use your settings as its saved on the mouse itself.
Would this be an effective counter to the limit imposed on mouse speed by Dust? Anyone tried it? |

I second this... I purchased the TAC3 specifically to play dust, and I know many other players that will expect it to work; however when pressing a directional button your character will NOT move more than a twitch unless you are doing something else at the same time. For example pressing and holding forward your character will twitch forward and stop. Pressing forward and moving the mouse, the character will twitch around forward while the mouse is moving and then stop the instant that the mouse stops moving. It is odd as well, because you cannot simply hold forward and right to diagonally run everywhere, it will simply stop a moment after moving.
This popular PS3 peripheral is completely unusable in the current state of the game. |
