I'm wondering will tanks be able to roll under a structure cover for safety? Like in the skirmish map they can simply hide under the several structures when someone calls an OB.

It could vary with weapon type used. A big artillery shell, hail of autocannon rounds, rocket, railgun slug, laser, and plasma ball may not act the same.
It would be nice if effects were visible and different, so ground troops may request a caldari missile with its graviton based warhead the sucks things toward the impact point, or a minmatar nuclear warhead that sends it flying outward. |

Well, the graviton warheads are actually used to provide a kinetic "push", but the idea is cool. The only caveat I see is that strikes will most likely only be possible with long range turrets, meaning we'll probably only see beam lasers, railguns, and Artillery cannons being used. With a missile, you'd have to wait the travel time between orbit and the surface. |

Since they are firing 100mm and up wards I would say no. I thinm the dreadnoughts are firing rounds the size of simi trucks so I dont think your safe. |

An argument could be made that the structures themselves are not just wood and steel they are most likely made from the same types of durable materials that the ships are made from..
BUT i agree with you guys! lets get some destructible terrain in here!! |

I remember hearing that the main component of Eve ships would disintigrate in most atmospheres. but I can't remember where I read that. |

they are made from Tritanium, which I'm guessing doesn't react well with atmosphere. |

Tritanium pure metals doesnt react well to heat and atmosphere and are probably closely related to the akalines. Any ship purely made out of this makes them not suitiable for reentry or extend space oeprations, however when alloyed with pyrite its a very durable metal used for transatmophseric operations. If they reacted badly to atmosphere purely then the star ships cannot sustain life support either as some ships are large enough to have the sufficent amount of atmo to cause deterioration from the inside.
None the less the most damaging shot would probably be the 1200mm antimatter round predetonated then sent down to suface level contained by a magnetic bottle. once the bottle wears off the plasma induced state antimatter will then react with regular matter resulting in some very catastrophic destruction of mass and massive amounts of radiation. |

When I played BF2, I never did understand how a simple metal roof that can barely protect you against hail, could withstand an artillery strike. |

as part of the eve ship balancing, they talked about giving destroyer class ships bonus's for orbital bombardment.
destroyers actually use the smallest classes of turrets (but they do generally use a lot of them)
so types of strikes will definitely vary a LOT. i wouldn't be surprised if smaller strikes could be easily countered by ducking, whereas dreadnaught or titan sized weapons might just obliterate everything within a certain radius regardless of terrain. |

According to lore titans were banned from entering too close to planets as their mass would effect the tidal patterns causing flooding on the planet side. Anyway I'm quite sure that in the beginning orbital strikes will have a massive splash radius to compensate for hiding under the buildings and structures. |

I'm happy if they don't. Its not realistic and its a little immersion breaking but I think tanks should be given some place to hide. Making every object destroyable is too hard for a persistent game on the ps3, can't have everything. |
