oh god no jetpacks please :D its the only one i didn't like or feel neutral about. :D It adds tiny highground advantage to those who use them pretty much forcing everyone to use them if they are generalized as "standard fit", use dropships instead. Please. |

as much as i'd love to see jetpacks is it really feasable to shoehorn them into a game at this stage? |

I agree with all of the suggestions but think the jetpack should be built into the logi suite and not availible for any other class. Put a 4-5 sec thrust "jump" on it with a clip of say 3 jumps, after that they need to refeul. This would limit the distance they can travel making them more of an emergency escape or get to an injured mate quick kind of device. Also letting also the short burn would not let them get high enough to activate the damper when falling so they would take damage if they use it wrong.
I love the native wildlife idea simply because it would be amazing to be in a PvP fight when a pack of wild X comes along and starts attacking both sides at once. It would add an amazing depth to the game. Do you attack the enemy, the wild animals, or both? |

A thought occured to me when I read the part about alien life. Call in attack slaver hounds like CoD3 lol.
Seriously though mostly good suggestions. Ship boarding probrably isnt going to happen for a long time but if it does I like the idea of cloaking the ship so it cant be interfeared with. Im of the mind of no jetpacks though, if only because it would just go one step further to eliminateing the usfulness of dropships. |

Not if it's something only the logi has room to fit |

Dropship is far more heavily defended, has gunners, carries an entire squad, has indefinite flight, great climb, and can act as a mobile spawn point, so I don't think jetpacks would steal the dropship's niche. |

Well the game will be getting continuous free expansions, like mechs (called MTACs) and hostile types of planets like lava planets, so its in the realm of possibility, even if its a year or two after release. |

Maybe jetpacks could be like MTACs just with VTOLs and less armour. They could have one small turret and to reload batteries after flying a certain distance. |

i think something like the jump boots from ut3 with limited use and takes up an equipment slot woud be better, why? because you would only be able to use them to get somewhere and then if needed escape once |

Aside from players using downgraded gear to make animals more dangerous by comparison, genetic engineering might also be an option for having animals powerful enough to pose a serious threat. just like there will be rogue drones, there could be infestations of rogue genetically engineered animals. The sheer scale of some animals, or their stealthy speed could also be used to overcome superior firepower. |

I'd like to see jetpacks in this game. They are amazing fun in other games. (Like Section 8 for instance). And it fits wel with the sci fi genre of this universe.
I can understand the fear of them being OP but I would suggest them being a module and having major fitting requirements (PG and CPU) so a person wanting to fit one would have to reduce his tank or weapon loadout to use 1. That could make jetpackers a specialized 'profession' so to speak.
Jetpacks would be limited in their time to use before they would need to recharge again. And the height and acceleration of the jumps would be influenced by the size of the dropsuit. Heavies would be able to jump as high or far as a scout suit.
I am not sure if it would interfere with the dropship quick deployement role. My initial idea was that jetpacks could fullfill a stealthy quick deployement hit and run role but I am not sure what the plans are for stealthy dropships.
I think jetpacks could work though. |
