I've been playing with the Logi LAV... Just wanted to share my thoughts.
But first a questions:
Anyone have some fitting suggestions for a shield Logi LAV? So far the investment is not worth the return. Perhaps I'm not doing it right? Dev's? Players? Suggestions?
Anywho, here are my initial impressions:
The Logi LAV comes loaded with a shield repper, but it doesn't really work. You have to point at someone for about 5 seconds to lock onto them, activate it, and hope they don't break line of sight. If they do it just keeps going even though its not repping anything Then you have to wait seemingly FOREVER! for it to recharge.
Also, the thing has a damage modifier of -50%... which means the turret is effective for nothing more than annoying people and driving them back behind cover long enough for you to give them the slip. But the number of slots makes up for this disadvantage... so it's workable.
My #1 issue is that the driver can be killed so easily. No other vehicle in the game allows you shoot the drivers. They are protected by the shields and armor of that vehicle. I get that in an LAV the driver is exposed, so I would agree that the armor shouldn't protect the driver, but why not the shields? The animation shows that the shields form a bubble AROUND the vehicle, yet there's a hole right where the driver and passengers are?
#2... I get the driver has his hands busy steering the LAV... but why can't the passenger shoot out of the LAV? If the argument for being able to kill the driver and passenger is because it's all open, then why can't my passenger fight back? The gunner can be sniped as well, but at least he's got a turret!! The passenger, however, is completely helpless.
#3 The Logi LAV has that silly repper that comes with it. As said before it does not work very well on infantry men running for cover due to the line of sight issue. But i can't even lock on and/or rep the passenger or gunner IN the LAV!!!
Even if they jump out and i lock on to them, as soon as they jump in the vehicle the lock is broken and i cant rep them. I assume it's "technically" because line of sight is broken since the passenger is next to you and the gunner is behind you, but COME ON!!! they are IN the LAV.
So now you have the Driver, the passenger, and the gunner fully exposed... the shields don't cover ANY of them... and i can't rep them even though they are IN the vehicle that has the repper! Whaaaat???
#4 It'd be cool if the Logi LAV had a module to carry a mobile supply depot... they have CRU.. why not a supply point... just an idea.
#5 I don't seem to get ANY sp for shield repping. I tested this with a friend last night. I got nothing for it. but maybe it was a fluke? idk.. needs more testing... I read somewhere else that someone got 25 points for repair, but that was for repairing armor. Can someone confirm or refute this? has anyone gotten SP for repping a teammates shields? Wouldn't be such a big deal if i didn't have to sit there and lock on and maintain LOS to get the rep... but again.. since i can be sniped out of the driver seat.. that leaves me to exposed too make it worth it.
Things I LOVE about the logi LAV..
#1 i can get close to 70% damage reduction on my shields. AND it's got a 22% shield recharge rate... with 1300 shields it can take a hefty beating compared to the other LAV's.
#2 at 40m/s i can out run just about everything!
#3 It works GREAT as a rapid insertion tool for those back objectives... I can get two proto guys to the back field post haste!
#4 The number of available mods and slots give you a HUGE assortment of customization options.
#5 i get mass lols... because it's strong enough to allow me to skirt around the field running people over!
****************************************** IMO:
I think they should push the shields out to protect AT LEAST the driver and passenger.
Allow the passenger to shoot out of the vehicle.... especially with the damage modifier the Logi LAV has...
Keep the gunner exposed but balance out the damage modifier... possibly to somewhere around 75%... this way the gunner has some chance to defend himself... this would then give me the option of using slots to buff the turret back up to around normal at the expense of shields/armor.
make the shield reppers do area repair.. not this lock on stuff... especially if it turns out you get NO sp for shield repping.
add a supply depot type mod... it is a logi LAV after all.

Well the gunner should be a heavy so that he can take more bullets and the driver should have armor repairer on the suit. And the issue that you cant shot your gun as passanger is annoying me aswell. Not just for LAV'S also for dropships. |

Well I have the Gallente logi LAV and it's armor repairer definitely gives me lots of +15's on infantry.
I wasn't aware that shield transporters didn't give you points.
Also, most importantly, you can turn off active modules by holding the selection wheel and selecting them again.
The actual cool down is short at least for my armor repairers, the time it's active is what's taking forever.
So just reselect it to turn it off. |

if the shields but not the armor protected the diver/passenger/gunner then that would disproportionally buff the caldari shield tanked lav over the gallente armor tanked lav.
so, both or nothing. enclose them so shields AND armor protect, or keep it as is with neither. |

I believe ccp has mentioned in the past they have intentions of letting passengers fire their weapons from the seat, but this has yet to be implemented. |
