Not sure if this already exists, but I'm going to make a list of tips not all new players might know about. I'm still relatively new, so it's based off my experience. If you have something to add, please do. :) (Thus why I asked for experienced players to read this as well)
First off for new players, PLEASE read this excellent guide posted by [Veteran_counter logic]. It covers the basics of DUST 514 and some insight to the EVE Universe.
Remote Explosives
I'm an idiot, and could not find out how to arm remote explosives. It wasn't until I blew myself up that I finally got it. xD To use remote explosives, you must first throw one by pressing R1, arm it with L1, and then trigger it off by pressing L1 again. Unfortunately, it seems people can abuse these by throwing, setting and instantly triggering the explosive before it hits the ground, or right next to you with no delay. DO NOT DO THIS, it breaks the game.
Instead, I found that the best use for these in Skirmish modes is when an enemy is trying to hack your base. Lay down an explosive near the base, and when an enemy nears, BOOM! Don't go flinging them around towards enemies while running, though. It's a cheap, and soon to be ineffective tactic. I couldn't find any documentation for this in the manual.
Dropships
It's best to call these down in large areas, preferably where a group of players on your team could gather. In the new Biomass map, the area designated to look like a helipad is one of these types of spots. Once you board, have at least two players get in to man the guns or turrets. Flying solo is not really recommended, even in Ambush maps as a team typically does better than a single person. To ascend, press and hold L1. To descend, press and hold R1. Switch positions by pressing Triangle Try to stay clear of colliding with structures by remaining at a high altitude, but not too high to obscure your vision of the battlefield or enemies. Also, while staying clear of enemy fire is a must, remaining stationary in temporary safe locations will give you and your team mates a better focus on the enemy, and the ability to concentrate your attacks efficiently. Take note of the damage your ship receives. If you see flames, or the armor is below 10, immediately eject the ship by pressing O. You'll be prompted to land safely on your way down, don't worry. ;)
Communication
In any team, communication is crucial to success, including this game. Unfortunately, there is a gap between text speakers and voice speakers.
FOR TEXT SPEAKERS - Before entering battle, go into System Operation --> Options --> and under the Audio Tab, switch Voice Chat to ON. It's disabled by default, and won't allow you to hear other players. - In battle, you can communicate with either your Team or individual Squad by pressing SELECT. Typing via a virtual keyboard isn't exactly ideal, but if you do not have a mic and you're able to find or use a USB keyboard (It seems any standard one, including the one which came with your PC could possibly work) please use it.
FOR VOICE SPEAKERS - Please, occasionally press SELECT to read what text speakers are saying. While you're giving commands, you might be missing out on what another player has discovered.
Nanite Injectors
These syringe-like tools can be bought from the marketplace (Under Equipment--> Nanite Injectors) and are used to revive fallen teammates. If you meet the pre-requisites to use them, and are near the proximity of a fallen teammate, please use it. It's currently difficult to do so since fallen teammates are given the option to suicide instantly, not giving you the chance to save them in addition to not knowing where fallen teammates outside of your proximity are. Simply equip it, and press R1 near the downed teammate when prompted. In Ambush, each kill costs the entire team, so it's best to prevent as many deaths as possible.
Drop Uplinks and Nanohives
Drop uplinks are deployable spawn points your teammates can lay down for you. They can be found in the Equipment section of the marketplace, and are useful to spawn in non-designated spots (Such as the edge of the map or a control point). It's best to lay these down in areas not completely secluded, but concealed or "safe" from enemy fire while being close enough to your goal. There are many nooks and crannies to be found in these large maps for these to be placed. Nanohives replenish ammo and work similarly to drop uplinks. If possible, it's best to either place them by the drop uplink, or in spots where most of your teammates tend to fire most of their rounds. Tossing them in obscure places is not the best.
That's all I have. Please share more helpful tips so more players will have an easier time accommodating to the game. |
