Anyone else just feel like a waste in a vehicle? I, personally, am not the best at shooting. I'm competent, and at times I can pull off some impressive moments, but in general, I prefer to run support.
As a result, my K/D is hovering around the 0.3 mark, but I'm fine with that. When I ride in a vehicle, I'm a gunner who doubles as a repper between cooldowns. Tank gets hit hard, we fall back, and I boost the repair process. |

When do we non-pilots get access to such super weapons? I mean I don't see any Portable-nukes for AV-builds or super bullet shields or armor regen for assaults or scouts in the marketplace.
See the problem?
Besides a tank pilot doesn't reap the benefits from this alone as he and two of his friends can join him on his low-risk high reward slaughter fest. A well-fitted Heavy with a Prototype Forge Gun does higher damage per shot than a Tank.
Swarm Launchers can be pretty insanely nasty if you're good with them.
So yeah, we DO get super-destructive AV weapons.
When non-specialist AV players are saying that tanks are OP, and most tank users are complaining that AV is OP, I'm pretty sure the balance is about where it should be. |

I don't just stick to being gunner. I'm also a good combat medic, and decent at AV
But I agree with the main point you're making - Different people are good at different things, sometimes even within the same game. It's legitimate for the drivers and pilots to ask if you want to be a gunner, but if you say "no" they need to respect that. I've seen some who don't - but I've also seen some who refuse to let their teammates join them, because they don't want someone "stealing" their kills.
Also, I'm a VERY bad driver (irl and in DUST land vehicles), but I've called in HAVs for teammates a few times before. They drive, I man the guns and patch them up when we're getting shot. Good times. |

When you're up against good AV players, it takes skill for a tank to be useful without getting killed. |

Kyy Seiska wrote:None of the things you mentioned makes Prototype AV weapons super-destructive. You'll still need a dozen shots with with Prototype forge gun to take down a well equipped tank. Prototype Swarm launcher is pretty much a joke against the top-tier tanks with correct fittings.
and yes I am playing av-specialist (Grendror) You may not necessarily KILL every tank you fight, but area denial is more important than destruction when it comes to vehicles. If you're good, tanks that stay where you don't want them die, and tanks that don't die stay away from the place you want to control. Either of these counts towards a victory. |

The quality of tanks seems to vary quite a lot, some of them seem to be made from paper and some of them don't even flinch when you throw swarms and AV-nades against them. A well-fitted tank will cost easily 10 times your wel-fitted AV Dropsuit.
It's not going to go down if you're attacking it alone.
Several AV players working together and playing well can get rid of it.
If you're lone AV guy, and the other team has more than one tank, then your teammates are idiots. |

Oh really do they now? How do you think I could make my fitting 10 times more expensive? You do realize that no other builds than pilots even have the option to shed out that much money for something equally powerful? Millions of isk just keep piling away with nothing to spend it on Three players with Forge Guns or Swarm Launchers (probably around 30,000ISK total) are a credible threat against 3 players in a Sagaris (easily 200,000ISK without counting the Dropsuits of each).
Sounds fair to me. |
