I recently took up the role of dropship pilot and I see a lot of gunners trying to shoot the Cestus which is 100% pointless/noobery. I've seen them try to pivot the gun past it's radius to the Cestus despite that I've positioned the dropship so they can't even see it but there still straining to swivel the gun at it. This is STUPID. Stop shooting the Cestus. There is NO point in it.
Please prioritize the soft targets. Focus your fire don't just shoot a little here and then a little there like a noob and, kill nothing at all. if we're taking fire from infantry stop shooting a tank that's not even looking at us. The dropship is not fit for slugging it out with non-militia tanks..
Then there's the gunner who just stops shooting, he's not AFK obviously from the motion of his gun, he just stops shooting period- along for the ride i guess.. Please if you're THAT gunner, just gtfo. |

These people annoy me too. Another thing is being annoyed at players for not getting in the dropship in the first place. Not only do I do my best to gather people up from the ground, I also have an MRU on my dropship. But even with all that, I still usually just fly around empty. WTF is wrong with you people. You'll stand and do nothing the whole match but guard the first spawn point but won't get into a dropship?? |

Shooting the MCC is indeed pointless, maybe they're just trolling? As for the not shooting part, draw distance could be a culprit here, as a gunner I spend more time shooting at enemy indicators than actual enemies. From a dropship perspective they appear to be quantum particles, popping in and out of existance as they please, those rotten bastards.
edit: It's also easy to lose faith in dropship pilots in general, often when I try to spawn in a dropship the pilot just parks on a tower and gets out nanoseconds before I'm about to enter the game, forcing me to go through another countdown timer. If that doesn't happen I find myself spawning in a flaming ball of fire, highly entertaining but also disheartening. |

but you get +15 for cestus dmg after 4 volleys from the stationary missile turret... But I know it's really pointless as it would take years to actually kill that ship with the turret |

Yea what amazes me is the heavies who insist on running across the plateaus.. but then again there's alot of trash pilots with paper tanks killing everyone on board within the first 90 seconds of the flight so i guess some people have just wrote off boarding a dropship all together.. will be nice when we can group, I come accross a random gunner who is actually competent only to know he will be probly gone by the next match. |

I'm pretty sure missile turret installations are the only things that can damage it enough to get points. (And sometimes not even then.) I just wish they would ditch the icon for it. We all know it's up there; the icon just clutters my HUD and makes it harder to detect dropships. (Harder to lock onto them, too, if they're flying above you near the icon.) |

any advice? i try to keep a stable platform for the gunner until we recieve fire then i zoom off and back again, if it gets too hairy i do a high orbit, when not evading i try to hover over and support a friendly mob who also support us. sorry if you were there when i derped out of bounds for too long.

Has anyone tried blasting the MCC with 5 Sagaris? Last build I heard that you could destroy the MCC in about 3 minutes. Just using tanks |

my rail tank can do a decent amount of damage two hits for the +15, only time it helps is if the shields are down then it helps if you've been red lined. I actually ended a match on the shot from my tank on the cestus, extreamly rare, but if red lined still an option to pull out the victory. |

As far as I know they are. I've put 20 rounds of assault forge gun into it, testing of course, just to see if I could get the +15. Never happened.... then enemies came and ran me off of the supply depot

I get the +15 points every time my Sag' hits it, granted I am doing 2028 damage per salvo though...
The reason why I rarely hop in dropships is because when one is called, rare is the pilot who sticks around for passengers so i just assume that he will fly off and ditch us. I usually only hop in if I am not sticking around waiting in spawn for my requested vehicle, don't already have a path for my scout dropping Droplinks, or if I recognize the name of the dropship pilot and trust him/her. |

no it was good, right now the missle turrets are the most annoying part, sometimes you get the trail, sometimes you dont. getting more use to compinsating for movement of the ship, but once your over the area, the stability helps alot, you could still move slowly, just let us know if you're going to pull Lt or Rt, so we can begin to compensate, once you have to roll out to regen. |

After a flying succesfully for a while you should get some sort of badge next to you name so people could know you're a qualified dropship pilot. |

It's called a logistics Dropship. If the pilot don't got one, I don trust em. Tbh, I think Dropships are a bit silly with the current turret angles. We'll see if they sort out the OP missiles next build. |

It would be better to link it to the pilot suit, which when they become available will be the marker of a serious flyer. It would be good to have some kind of visual clue if a Pilot-suit was in control of a Dship from outside the ship though - maybe a small wing icon to indicate this somewhere?

Yeah that's true, but any noob could get a pilot suit, so you'd still need some kind of skill level indicator to know if you have a good pilot. Like this;
* = beginner ** = average *** = skilled **** = expert
Unless there's an initial skill requirement to even get the suit, I'm not aware if this is the case. |

Well they ARE flying military vehicles. Why reinvent the wheel? There's a proven military way of marking this. Just mark some corp kill signs on the side under the cockpit. As the pilot doesn't actually kill anyone, we could add marks for successful matches where he wasn't shot down (too much). |

I would say it could be judged on the time actually flying over the battlefield, vehicle assists gained how many dropships you loose on average in a match. The better those stats the higher the skill. Cause i see to many vipers/gorgons called in with the stock equipment. also some "pilots" are either deaf or really dumb. Last time i tried my luck as a door gunner i saw swarms flying at us, i screamed that the pilot should fly away as fast he can. a few secs later crashed and surrounded by enemies and me in a logistic dropsuit. You can imagine how my chances where. Since then i allways pilot myself. Also you must have different loadouts for different jobs. -Placing alot of drop uplinks: viper with a lil bit better shields (no CRU cause its to weak for any tasks) -fire support and staying in hotzones longer as usual: Myron with At-1 launchers and maxed out shields but no CRU -Mobile spawnpoint: Eryx with At-1 launchers and buffed shields (not as strong as the Myron) -low on ISK and beeing greedy: Viper+improved shields,CRU and default missile launchers
Also n00b pilots wouldnt waste a dropship if they would know that they loose alot o ISK. I wish we could see what model the dropships are cause at the moment they all look lik gorgons/vipers. hard to tell if the player actually put SP and ISK into it or just ordered the Viper-Hatch aka "squish ship". |

Well identifying the Viper - Hatch is easy. If is shoots with blasters, it can only be that. Anyone with a custom ship has at least militia missiles. |

As someone who is used to PC shooters (and therefore can't hit the broad side of a barn with a DualShock) I've gladly adopted the mantle of support - specifically dropships.
I've been using the default dropship and doing reasonably well, about to have the funds to build a decent drop sans papertank. As this thread seems to be visided by dropship aficionados, what are you looking for in a dropship? Spawn/no spawn? What turrets? Recommend me a fit? =) |

As a gunner I have to say with spawn, I've rarely seen dropships come down for pickups once they're flying, just for squishing or on fire. And missileturrets, more damage, damage is good. |

Also everyone seems to forget the main use drop ships which is painting enemy, usually snipers on the hills and towers. Nothing ruins your day as a sniper like a drop ship in your favourite camping spot.
Second job for a drop ship is to keep enemy drop ships from nuking your team from orbit.
Third is moving people from place to place because frankly this map is just too small for that, unless we count dropping logis on towers and roof tops for uplinks. |

Dropships have little use in the current map (except tower transport). But some of us silly enough to train them are ready.
I can fly an Eryx, but I often pull down a custom viper to get me around when I'm AV sniping. Some times when people show that they want to jump in (I never put a mCRU on them), I'll try to drop them somewhere but when they insist on firing I'll let them gun until I am in flames..
I do agree that shooting the Cestus is pointless. I've even shot it with proto swarm launchers and proto small missiles and neither give points. The only time I shoot it is when I'm AV sniping and I've killed all the vehicles and I'm waiting for respawns, and to help it get into Armor, or things are really close. It's pointless from a point perspective, and certainly pointless if you're in a dropship as a gunner and have real targets to shoot.
That said, I actually do prioritize Sagaris and Suryas targets since nearly everyone else is apparently unwilling to do AV and kill it. Dropships can hover above the tank and rain down proto small missiles with little risk, aside from an enemy AV taking pot shots. |

Just removing the enemy and shield/armour indicators (in-visor, not from the HUD) would probably help. Apart from cluttering your view with pointless information they make the Cestus look like a legitimate player target when the only way to damage it should be (and is) by holding control over the AA turrets, ie. hacking. |
